The Colonial Germans (Klein, family owned) VS the Fatherland Germans (Knipex, family owned).

Doc why not get your Blue Points & with the help of a small dremel or Foredom type rotary tool just adjust the tips of the cutters so they work better and dont risk catching. Might be worthwhile, might not be good for warranty.

I have a Foredom, it’s so much more durable than a Dremel. I love it.

I just bought the Marvel MV-200N on recommendation from an Australian sparky, and they cut like butter for the smaller stuff like Romex. They were also under $40 new from eBay.

I have the knipex stepcut xl and the smaller stepcut. They are different but in a good way. You need to be careful and don't let anyone to use your cable shears, you may end up with a damaged tool. Do not cut steel warning is just for you. Nobody cares.

But what if I do want to cut steel? Do they make an orichalcum version? Maybe mithril?

Jig saw. Works great on bundles of all-thread without heating up the steel.

    Warning:
Just purchased the Klein journeyman high leverage cutters. There is not much overlap on the blades; if you accidentally nick the blades on steel etc there is very little room to re-sharpen them.

The Knipex ones usually say the cutting capacity and the material it's meant to. In your case it says piano 3mm meaning it will cut up to 3mm piano wire which is a tempered high-carbon steel. So... steel is allowed for the Knipex. Usually for cutters you'll see something like "Cu max 3mm", "hard max 1,2" for hardened steel, but it also comes in soft/medium.

They don't seem to be too well known in the states, but the marvels from Japan are top tier cutters, also come in a couple smaller sizes which is cool.

Am I the only one that said "that 12-2 Romex is over 20 years old".... White sheathed 12 gauge wire went away in the early 2000's??

Park tools, the bicycle people, make a similar set that is rated for steel. I have had a set for years and they are wonderful.

I have the park tool cutter, and one from knipex, specially designed for steel cables, and wire ropes, they look similar but there are some differences, especially at the cutting edges. Different angles, and hardness

@@lastbesttoolI do love me some Knipex. Related to your video about being a fanboy; I would probably have to rate myself as at least a little bit of a fanboy for Knipex and PB Swiss.

I have the older/vintage pair of red-handled Klein heavy cable cutters like the ones shown. I think I paid $10 for them at some clearance table or something back in the 90's. I may have used them twice. I prefer the diagonal cutters for wholesale romex/etc wire cutting.
