My dad gave me one of these machines about 8 years ago. I wasnt sure what i was going to do with it. Until today. Ive just started having interest in quilting and im hoping it can do the heavy work on layers of a quilt. It is SOOO quiet! It is heavy, but its SO QUIET. LOVE IT. I am looking for tge book and how to thread and wind a bobbin. Very excited about this and so glad i didnt put in the vintage cabinet i have up for sale. Also, its been serviced and it runs like a dream.
Here is a set of cams that you can buy on eBay for $20. eBay really is your best source for manuals and cams and any accessories. www.ebay.com/itm/335514394272?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=1NXSuV3cR8S&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=lf2RFr0pTfG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
The sewing machine came in two models, one that had no cams, and a model with cams. I think it's the 534 that has cams. Put in a search on eBay save it cuz there isn't any right now for sale, and when a manual comes available that's your best bet for a vintage copy. You can get a digital copy for free here www.sewingmachinesplus.com/manual-j-534-en.php
Okay how to do that on this machine is there's a knob in the center of the hand wheel. It's that big wheel on the right hand side of the machine as you're looking at it and then the very center there's a chrome knob basically what you do is you hold the hand wheel and you use the other hand your right hand to screw that chrome knob counterclockwise or towards you. That will disengage the needle. Then when you're ready to start sewing again you you must screw that back to where it's tight and then the needle will re-engage. I do have a copy of the manual if you would like send me your email address and I'll send it to you. I always recommend to make sure you have a manual. The good news is most all machines are the same especially the mechanicals on how to disengage the needle. Good luck and enjoy and if I get a response from you with your email address I'll send you the manual at no cost.😊
Actually I have been not doing anything sewing machine related as I've been in the process of relocating and I do need to go back and try and start selling some of my machines because I've just got way too many I have over 50 machines and they're all in meant condition so I need to videotape them and get them listed on eBay if you're interested, Let me know my email is skideh@hotmail.com.
Hey just saw your comment. I still have my 534. I got all the cams on ebay. Yes regular low shank feet work. Here's a set with accessories www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Sewing-Machine-Parts-and-Cams-New-Home-/165233598459?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
Okay so I have one and it’s attached to a desk that turns into a table and it’s literally perfect but I don’t know how to clean it, any tips??? Or should I get it cleaned??? And dusted and stuff
Do you have a manual? The manuals tell you how to clean and oil. Mostly for cleaning if the machine is working then take apart the bobbin area and clean the dust and fabric lint. In the head there can be lint inside where the needle bar is from thread. And clean in between the tension disks with a brush. Only oil where the manual says. If you don't have a manual I can email you a pdf file of one. Manuals are a necessity.
I acquired a new home sewing machine identical to yours. Model v9-951 I can’t find a sight to download the manual. The machine is in great condition and I want to use it. Please if you can help direct me to a manual I’m willing to purchase it. Thanks.
There are two of these machines, one with a cam hatch on top model 534, and one without the hatch model 532. The model number is when you tip the machine back on the front beneath the bed you should see one of those two numbers if it is exactly like this machine. I can get you the manual. No charge. It will be a pdf. Give me your email address.
Dionne Pray Thank you so much I would appreciate a manual my email is majdaparker@gmail.com I will look to see what model it is but it does have the opening on top
It is a household machine, therefore it will handle light cloth like leather, all the parts of this machine are metal, but they are not made like a commercial leather machine that is made to withstand constant use and even different commercial machines are made for different types of leather. Also the motor is not designed to have the torque to handle leather. A Pfaff 130 which you can purchase for a reasonable amount, can be attached to a commercial motor as it is made to withstand speed, which would have the torque necessary for leather. It is also made to commercial tolerances. They are German made and a better application if you don't go the route of a commercial leather machine. Hope this helps!
I sold this machine in 2017 not too long after I listed it, I leave my videos live as many people own these machines and many others that I have sold and enjoy the video for information purposes only. Thank you for your interest, these machines are quite common and can be found on eBay and Shop Goodwill. This model comes in two types without the ability to use decorative cams and with the ability to use decorative cams. I still own in my collection one with cams and it is one of the best machines I own. I highly recommend it.
this machine is still available on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/143193137954?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649 and an antique White Rotary: www.ebay.com/itm/143181939906?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
@@dionnepray9821 I have the Deluxe model also with the cams. Just picked up a 532 little work horse today for $40!!! Tested out perfect. I will give it a good cleaning and oil up tomorrow, but looks good now. The lady said it was her mothers' 40 years ago, and she herself does not sew. So sew good for me!
@@aspeaks3241 oh that's fantastic. I still.have the 534 for my collection.. you ought to do a sampler of all the cams. I have and the stitches are beautiful.
What a gorgeous machine! I do love the old Janomes. I've rescued a number of them and it has always been very rewarding. My latest find is an early 60s 605 with a full set of pattern cams. The motor was dead so I replaced it with one I salvaged off a serger. The plastic ring gear on the handwheel had split and replacement ones are not available so I "reamed" out the split part to fit the handwheel pulley and epoxied it in place. It worked a charm and now it sews like new. So quiet and classy! I'd rank it anyday alongside Berninas, Elnas Husqvarnas and Necchis of the era. 👍
