I read in a magazine, years ago...When Max left sepultura, decades ago now, he invited his son-in-law to play in the band. At the time soulfly was highly controversial and politically charged given their Indigenous roots. During one show, promoting the new band with no album released yet, someone killed his son-in-law. Months later, Max invited the band members to play a song for him at his grave. One take recording. This is how the original came out, and is why a version like this is on every album, to honour his fallen son-in-law. Grief is a process and i buy every album, just for the version of the original, whatever form it may take, to get a glimpse into the heart of a composer of such music...you know when you hear it. It may not be the sound you’re used to from sepultura, but it’s the sound of a grieving father...everything in between, whether hit or miss, will ever match the reverence. However, you can hear it in his lyrics. That experienced changed max, and influenced what we hear today. I love sepultura, but i also love soulfly and their reverence...
I remember when the original came out. This was the version that came out when my son was born. Between now and then, so many memories, life has changed so drastically. The reverence of the song itself...i understand the hurt, pain, and eternal longing much better than i did when it first entered my soul...

The original version in it's simplicity sounded more peaceful and smoother than this sort of darker version. Though still still awesomely epic, what lost me was the lack of the guitar solo! God damn that solos a trip D:
I don't find this darker .. just more focused . The original came out in a time of turmoil for me . So I guess it's perspective. As the original has a chaotic build for me.

Nah...I know this comment will be controversial, but Soulfly is kinda the pop band of metal. Lame generic vocals, cliche power chords and lyrics that constantly repeat themselves...or their crappy rap metal style lyrics early in their career. I love their tribal elements, I just wish everything else was good. COuld download their instrumentals on Amazon mp3 I suppose...
generic vocals? what does that even mean? the lyrics are supposedly intended that way to repeat in this genre, even tho they dont really repeat so much. Sp you are also being dishonest. Other genres they dont even have lyrics so what would you call such music?? really you have terrible criticism shows you know nothing about metal
so you are more the technical kind of guy with no feelings. The power chords maybe simple technically, i might not understand that but music is about 90% feelings to actually create and the rest is to produce it. So know that before you continue to spew more nonsense
