    I played around 100 Tenpai games to get an idea of the deck in the meta. It’s by far the most 50/50 deck I’ve ever played. I found that breaking the board isn’t the issue, it’s getting your card to resolve at all. It’s way too weak to most hand traps (field spell is only online like 20% of games).

      i know its not an exact comparison but its like how mikanko was super popular when it got added in MD, where first few weeks you would just get frustrated when your stuff gets kaiju'd but if your deck is just stupid enough with its endboard and you win the roach mini game you can just beat it. even going further back personally its no different than losing to something like numeron or blind second 8 axis. sure the deck is better in a blind bo1 format but honestly most things are.

    28:29 - There's three summons that haven't been covered: summoning tokens, summoning from the S/t, and summoning from the Monster Zones (Gemini). There could also be when your opponent summons monsters to your side of the field as well. The set could also be p[rinted, but I agree with Josh that Trap decks already have a rough enough time in the present day game to not need to be punished when there's already so much punishment naturally in how slow trap cards can be.

    I concur on the havnis/bystial for every deck.
    I also would like to suggest an effect that could be a direction for power creep. You know how booking a monster removes negates it might have had applied to it? This without the booking, they could make cards that removed lingering effects applied to a card, which we then speaking logically could make a card that removed lingering effects on the field. Then the next step would be for the turn and then for the Duel.
    Lingering effect is also something like an "and for the rest of the turn" that would be able to be removed.

      Tenpai is a really easy deck to counter in deck building, unlike stuff like snake eyes or yubel. Also I know is not just me, but I have noticed that when a deck is really easy to play, the misplays are really noticeable, I have won against a few Tenpai players that could have won if they had sequenced their cards in a different way, but oh well. Also just surrendering after seeing the first Tenpai card is just wrong, let them misplay.

  • @tgamagedon

    I think one idea could be to have a card in an archetype, that can be special summoned from the hand and then lets you reveal 3 different in archetype monsters from your deck. Your opponent then gets to chose one of them to special summon and depending on the monster you get like a pop or a mild floodgate effect and you then get to link them off at the start of the next turn, unless they are dealt with. Because your opponent gets to chose it can never bee ridiculously oppressive, but it goes a long way to evening the playing field and it locks you out of certain board breakers.

    @38:43
    Havnis is my favorite card design in all of yugioh. The fact that "randomness" was an aspect is one of the best things that it did - it made each game that you drew it play out differently. If you have consistency then not only is it easier to play around, but the game-to-game dynamic becomes the same, and I already think that's a massive problem with modern card design. Decks are too linear. Also, if you build your deck the right way, it becomes less and less random - in ishizu tear you'd almost always hit something relevant. What it was could be different, like sometimes you'd only mill a shuffler, sometimes you'd mill a tear to fuse into rulkallos, sometimes it was reinoheart to make a kaleidoheart, sometimes it was an ishizu miller. Sometimes it was a sulliek or a scream to just get you some card advantage for next turn and a body on field. Very rarely would you actually just mill a combination of planet, instant fusion, terraforming, etc.
    This also made it harder for the opponent to play around. Even if you assume that the opponent has havnis, it's not just a hand comparison interruption because you don't actually know what havnis will result in as an interruption. In almost all modern yugioh matchups you can reveal hands and find out with a high degree of certainty who will win the game, barring misplays - not saying that's how a game WILL play out, since hidden information is part of the game, but you CANNOT do that with tearlament (unless tear has a mediocre hand/brick and the opponent drew like 3 good hand traps).
    IMO saying you don't like havnis as a card means you don't like using your brain when you play the game, because you have to do that to play around it.
    #Puthavnisto3
    On that note, don't unban kitkallos imo. One of the worst card designs in tear (after planet), it's exclusively proactive when a lot of the way the deck plays is reactively.

    • @MiyaoMeow588
      @MiyaoMeow588 27 дней назад +7

      nah it's completely unreasonable to trigger Havnis and snowball into Rulkallos, Winda, both Shufflers in GY and probably a Kaleido-heart or Dragostapelia at some point before your opponent has performed a single meaningful action. That is completely unfun for anyone playing against it. Just because it didnt happen all the time doesnt mean it wasnt frustrating when it did

    Some considerations:
    - Tenpai isn't good in Bo1
    - Tenpai isn't as good as most people think in TCG either. Is a low skill deck with flaws that can win, so the average quality of players that use it, is on average, lower than other top tier decks.
    In the TCG side:
    -Internet community is not the same as IRL community. People complaining about the price of the game & state of the meta rarely plays tournaments even when meta is affordable. Tins having harder to pulk ratios was in direct response to konami punishing paying customers over non paying ones, for example. They actually do know what they are doing.
    Just for comparison, pokemon had a regional in Lille past weekend. It had 850 masters which is far less than YCS lille main event.

    • @easyygo3008
      @easyygo3008 27 дней назад

      They are literally not; you have no go first side board. Which wins games quite often in Bo3.
      In Bo1, you are not guaranteed to go second, ever. Especially when mirror match is rampant, you lose any semblance of consistency at winning in such drastic conditions.

    • @WolfPackAlpha-sn2sw
      @WolfPackAlpha-sn2sw 27 дней назад +4

      Tenpai is cracked in Bo1, you are more often than not going to be playing your optimal turn. Tenpai is INSANE and can play through multiple interactions very easily if you actually understand the deck. The deck has a low skill FLOOR, but the ceiling on Tenpai is utterly ridiculous. You can ALMOST guarantee full combo into as many as 3 interactions on a decent hand. Anyone who ISN’T complaining about the price of this game and the near mandatory cards is a Konami boot licker that can’t fathom the concept of criticism against something they enjoy. I love yugioh, but Konami’s TCG printing policies are actual dog shit in every fathomable way. Yugioh is RELATIVELY affordable compared to other TCGs, but the tcg especially is still so unnecessarily expensive because Konami outside of Japan can’t grasp the concept of dropping pack filler for multiple rarities. There is zero excuse for $100 staples that are 3x or even 2x. $150 Fuwalos is criminal.

    • @easyygo3008
      @easyygo3008 27 дней назад +2

      @@WolfPackAlpha-sn2sw
      You are infull liberty of not buying. Yugioh isn't a ONG, is a profit driven organization; fuwalos isn't even necessary to have fun and by the looks of it, not even needed to top if you are good at ygo. There is a big line between being entitled and being critic, "ygo is criminal with a $150 staple" is entitlement at its finest; peopke at TCG side know what they are doing and are better at business and ygo than what you think.
      Imagine me going to a ferrari dealer and telling them it is "criminal" that i cannot afford their cars and that they should be as cheap as toyota's because they are cars.
      If they are polite, they will tell me they can't do anything, and that i should buy a toyota instead. If they are not, they would just laugh in my face. Konami is at least nice enough to let you know that waiting will get you better prices.
      Every good player i know (the ones that actually play tournaments, unlike you), have 0 comments on prices, their most repeated comment is: "it is what it is, they gotta make money, i don't control what they do or they don't" & most casuals ( aka the obes that buy sealed) just tell me: "cool if i pulk it, but i know i won't and even with good cards, i wouldn't do well at toyrnaments". Listening to people not playing the game and barely buying product is not how you make money, you do by listening to paying customers (the ones playing tournaments, the ones buying packs, the ones buying a lot of singles of newer product). If konami did that, they would think the game is "dead" when sales numbers and attendances are higher than average.
      -------
      And the tenpai comment is quite shallow and i g n o r a nt. Is impossible to get any semblance of consistency with tenpai in bo1 against skilled opponents. You don't choose order half the time, that alone disproves you.
      Sum that tenpai and anti tenpai are super popular atm (so more uncontrollable factors), and the low skill floor of the deck ( an average player and a good one would change the result less times than with good decks like snake eyes azamina) and no side board decrease the win ratio by itself, a lot. To the point where if you play against anyone good, going first and second randomly, your win ratio will be less than 50%.
      Tenpai is good, is just overglorified by unprepared or inexperienced players because their b a d decks get cooked easily. Pretty much all top players avoid playing tenpai for a reason, and that's something you understand when you have played with and against the deck with good players for a while, which you haven't.

      I went to my first national after playing for 1 year and it was fine. The problem with the yugioh TCG is that there is no accessible bridge from "yugioh as you remember it" to "yugioh as it (as actually) is"
    Like do TCG structure decks even mention handtraps im so serious

      I would like to think that structure decks like Albaz Strike and Beware of the Traptrix are a farily decent bridge from old school to modern yugioh in that one enforces fusion summoningm and the other is trap oriented.

    I see people bringing this argument a lot 1:40:59 where they think that if high rarity/exclusive products were to be more widely available for everyone for a few bucks, then the company would make more money by the sheer number of customers, but in reality it's been proven that a small minority of players aka the whales keep most of the mobile games running, and this is specially true for gacha games.

    Tenpai resulted in an easier experience than in TCG due to the best-of-one factor. Trap decks have the advantage against Tenpai and there is plenty of tech cards that you can use. Tenpai only gets better with a side deck.

    12:10 rarity two was and is a great set, it was just WAY overpriced. $10 a pack MSRP, that’s why people were upset. $10 for 9 cards is pure BS.

    Not to be an “um actually”, but, duel links has had for years now, events where you can spend gems to turn a card into a prisma. It cost like 1500 gems, so still insanely expensive, and the new method is way better, but it’s something master duel could bring for now until Konami implements special processing for Master Duel. 1:42:13

      1. Ashura king
      2. Cicada king
      3. Gossip
      Use gabonga as an ash bait or if you can you summon ashura first then summon gabonga.

    josh's takes on mulchamy's (especially fuwalos) are kinda irritating to hear from a casual/local perspective... not everyone wants or HAS to play a lab deck or paleozoic or whatever runick stuff you play in order to not just die from 1 card... yes there are stupidly broken combo decks that finish on insane endboards but there are also combo decks that don't even finish on much to begin with and get absolutely destroyed now by 1 card just for trying to make their 2-3 endboard cards..
    yall been saying for ever how max C is a problem and how it hinders deck building by having to main 6-7 other cards in order to counter it and now we have literally 9 of them for every kind of deck to have in your disposal..
    how exactly are decks without a 1 card combo supposed to counter that when they can't play 18-20 non engine cards? they just die cuz of that 1 card existing... just like shifter is for like 95% of the decks that exist..
    P.S. a card that costs ~350-400$ for a playset CANNOT be a fix to any problem btw.. if anything it makes the gap between local players, new players, or ppl who simply want to have a good time for couple hours per week even bigger and make them think about giving up the game or simply not start to begin with..
