My favorite part about the OT? Seeing how every artist uses it in completely different ways. Once you crawl inside the machine, you start to create your own workflow. It inspires every user to create unique artistic visions.
I agree!!! It's got a very open architecture!!!
If you invest the time in learning it, it’s really more an instrument than anything else. Had mine for 8 years or so and I’m still learning new tricks and techniques. Some people just don’t value that and want a machine to do everything for them
@@FreeThink1984 so, so very true.
I think it would be awesome if you showed a tutorial on how to set up the OT to do performances such as what you performed at the end
What's up!!!! Thanks for reaching!!! This is a bit of an odd channel as I don't do tutorials. I essentially share what I'm working on during the day.
The OT to me is the ultimate "lofi" machine.. dare I say a way better than the 404. It is a ton more than just a lofi machine, but I really think lofi/hiphop heads keep sleeping on this machine. Del from Hyro uses is heavily.
For sure! I love my OT! I do wish I could cop a 404 as a sort of outboard fx unit though!
What's up man!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!!!
@@TheDaydreamSound Love your channel/work. Very inspiring to me.
100%, OT Mk2 is my favorite box. Almost dumped it a few times out of frustration at the beginning, but walked away for awhile, came back fresh and a lightbulb came on...now understanding many of the wonderful functions coming to life. Also thinking of getting an MPC 2500 as an addition, (I missed out on the whole MPC thing in the 2000s). I just picked up SP404sx, trying to see where I can use it best.
First clip I've seen of someone using the fader in a way that makes sense, please post more.
Nice machine but the learning curve was awful for me. I had to return mine. Dope video man.
I saw in your other clips that you've been buying a lot of old hardware samplers. How does the Octatrack compare? How does it stack up on modulation points? If you wanted to warp and get some weird soundscapes, go old-school or Octatrack?
Nice performance at the end. 👍
Thanks!!!!!!
at around 5:30 can you do that same function on the Digitat? i'm battling which i should buy since i heard the Digitakt was more easy...Please advise...
What's up man!!! Thanks for reaching out! I don't own a Digitakt. I truly don't know.
I'm on Team Endearing.
Yep!!!!
Classic machine right there. Great work. Such an open platform.
Dope music btw.
I've been surprised by the quality of samplers lately. OP-Z and 1010 Blackbox made me open my eyes to other platforms.
Still, Love my digitone, already love the elektron sequencer and this will be it's best friend.
Great video! 👍
Much appreciated!!!!!!
This is crazy. I might have to get an octotrack. The question now is mk 1 or mk 2? 🤔
I just picked up a Digitakt. It’s been a fun experience so far.
What's up Marcus!!! The Digitakt is great!!!!!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Great choice. Another DT owner here. Won’t part with it until you pry it from my cold dead hands 😬 Much like how Daydream has bonded with the SP1200 the DT is my go-to since the day I got it!
I'm considering giving the octatrack another try. A part of me is holding out for octatrack 2 (eventually). My problem with the machine was the I found the effects underwhelming. Then again, that could be my lack of sound design skills :(
What up Tali!!! Thanks for watching!!! It wouldn't be a bad idea to wait. You never know what might be around the corner.
Maybe you could pair it with a roland SP, to get the best of both worlds, the effects of the SP and the capabilities of the octatrak
This was an awesome video I've always really liked the idea of owning an octatrack but at the same time I usually finger drum so it makes me lean towards an MPC. Watching this video has made me rethink this again just seeing how much more you can get out of an octatrack, so thank you bud.
@@michael_mack i wish I had that kinda money to blow in one shot haha but what would you recommend getting first?
Very much appreciated!!!!!!!
@@michael_mack I make a little of both which is why I have such a problem haha. I started off with boom bap hip hop beats then began making a little more lofi beats. As of recent I have been making more experimental music after hearing artists like jpegmafia, vegyn, and dg. I currently have a maschine and an sp404 and also plan on acquiring an analog synth when I purchase either of OT or MPC. Any recommendations on which of the two to start with. Also if you have one a recommended synth?
unclejuju12 this is late but if you already have maschine you should go with Octa, since the combo between Maschine and Octa will be very similar to MPC and Octa
Great video. Really dig your focused and relaxed style. OT is really an impressive instrument.
I am so excited since my OT MK2 will come tomorrow. Won ´t be able to sleep this night. 😜
such a soothing voice to listen to, thanks for this useful vid
how you get this "granular synthesis" kind of trembling drum sound ?
Yo is recording it a problem? I got ableton and know I can’t record it live into separate tracks. So my question is can you do good quality mixing and panning using just the machine before putting it onto an ableton track? I wouldn’t really know how that would work as I’m new to this stuff. Don’t even have an octatrack yet but I’m saving up for one once I fully master my Roland SP555
Love what you did with the fader!
Much appreciated man!!! The OT is so versatile!!!
Octatrack Warning: keep out of reach of children. Contents may become explosive.
thinking this would be a great way to "resequence" old tracks I made that never saw the light of day because the minor sequencing flaws I later noticed and never re-rendered.
Well done man. Haven’t seen you in my feed for a while.
Thanks!!! Much appreciated!!! My videos have moved over here www.thedaydreamsound.com/ntsc-pal
Elektron = Death of your F L O W
Hmm people said that about my SP555 but it wasn’t that true. I guess it just depends on what typa flow you want
No
It’s easier to use if you get it as your first sampler in my opinion, I bought it pretty much only for the arrangement mode for playing live without a full band and once I started looping, mangling samples and making scenes I completely changed my stance on it, I’d recommend people like me who are guitarists mainly to record something in ableton or any daw then playing with the samples on the machine.
Dont like the Stereo only thing:/
What's up!!! Thanks for sharing. What stereo thing?
The Daydream Sound, only stereo tracks and no mono's like on the digitakt. I like the mono thing, most of my tracks are in mono ( more space ). Or did I miss something. Regards from Germany
Double mono.
Or just use the left-hand channel...
At Last, an Ableton Live in Harwdare version.
Not really
I am finally getting some of the Octatrack's more advanced features. I've had it for about two years now and it is amazing and rewarding.
It took time and patience but it is so worth it! Your right that it is not as hard as it loaded with possibilities Nice tutorial
I’m researching the possibility of replacing Ableton with an Octatrack, as Ableton in my performance is only looping samples and adding fx. The problem is it feels like buying a Swiss Army knife when all I need is a simple tooth pick 😅 and I’m not seeing much else that could work alongside my A4mk2 in terms of syncing pattern changes and such
Dope!!!
What up Bruv!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!
do you have any tutorial on patterns & part edit, my mystic comrade
What's up man!!! Thanks for reaching out!! much appreciated! I don't do tutorials I just share things that I work on during the day. Patterns are pretty simple to set up overall. Parts are a little different. They can be use for so many purposes that it can seem strange at first to find a use for them.
Great demo! Thanks!
Thanks & Thanks for watching!!!
Please make more OT vids
Will do!
@@TheDaydreamSound Also fairly new to your content but all of it is quality stuff!
Glad you're here man!!!! Much appreciated!!!!!!
Thanks i'm gonna buy one right now
Do it. U wont regret
It's just such a fantastic machine. Took me quite some time to get into it, but once you understand how this works, the possibilities are endless.
Yep!!! It's worth the time for sure!
Is it possible to use it as an end-of-chain for stereo saturation? You can but you’d have to sacrifice 2 of the 8 channels? I was hoping I could run all through a stereo saturation
