As a victim of a narcissistic mother, who has tortured me all my life with my weight (among many other forms of phsycopath emotional abuse), I can tell you this is no fun. This girl will need years of therapy to recover from this. And, if she wants to be fully healed and not to end in depression or something worse, she should also take distance from her mother someday (the sooner the better). At 41, I've just done it and I'm knowing happiness and freedom for the first time in my life. I just regret to have lost 4 decades tolerating her evilness.

@Ian Talyor Actually it's not that simple... a child of a narcissist can also be a narcissist. According to some psychologists, it is said that if a child doesn't receive the much love needed of one or both parents (empathy included), she/he will grow up with a lack sense of empathy to others and become a narcissist. The opposite is also true (like too much love to the point that the kid grows thinking he/she is better than everyone and only his/hers needs that actually matter). For an healthy personality, a child must have at least one healthy adult figure to project and develop a non narcissistic personality. This adult not necessarily needs to be a blooded mother and father figure, but maybe an aunt, a nanny, a teacher, etc well bonded to the kid and take a better role model

This is one of those tricky areas. I grew up in a family that used food to celebrate a lot, so I developed a comfort eating habit. For me, food is love and happiness. I've struggled all my life with it. I've lost over 100 pounds and counting, but I am left with a massive amount of sagging skin that makes me look older than I am and bigger than I am.
Would I rather have had a family that didn't eat like this one? No. But at the same time, I feel like I would rather have not spent my teenage years being called "Wilson Phillips" when out with my two slim friends at the mall, and ending up with Type 2 diabetes and severe body issues like I have now.

And bella confirmed it for me in an interview, she admitted,I’m paraphrasing abit here: that she’s hungry for validation from others even though she knows it’s wrong and she should stand up for herself but she can’t because she’s used to the feeling of being shunned… on a psychological standpoint, that’s because she finds a sense of familiarity that way hence why the Hadid sisters are pliant when it comes to their family. And not to forget they’re brought up mixed cultured with Palestinian that is respecting your elders no matter what; is the highest honour in Asian culture. But mix that with toxic parenting, will cause internal conflict when making familial decisions as an adult and you automatically go pliant and loyal to the people who manipulate you when growing up (the parents/family).

@Julian We are going to have to agree to disagree. You can still have a healthy relationship with food and be thin. Plus, all this stuff is out now about Bella having a nose job at 14. She was fun to watch, sure, but she is a horrible person and mother.
I think . . . Yolanda is definitely not mother of the year but you have to look at her with CONTEXT.
1 ) Gigi was probably begging for the nose-job and Yolanda is a yes-woman and push-over.
2 ) You don't have European context. All the Russian, Swedish, Norwegian, ETC. models from other European countries have nose jobs super young. It's the norm. I think it's hard for us to swallow in the west but it happens in multiple countries so often it doesn't have the same . . . shock value or negative thought? I mean look at Korea for example. They've got no where near close to the largest population but they certainly have one of the largest amounts of plastic surgeons world wide.
3 ) Yolanda was on the show years ago so I think people remember the good and not the bad. These things didn't stick out as negative during the time. No one was pointing them out and they were sort of glossed over and given a free pass given she struggles with words and pronunciation a bit. Far worse had been done on Top Model around the time and so no one was batting an eye. Now we're looking through MODERN perception.
4 ) Yolanda is a victim too. Someone ( multiple people and things ) has groomed and brainwashed her and she unfortunately projected it onto her children. The old modeling industry she grew up in, her culture, men from her past. Probably how her family raised her as well.
5 ) Yolanda was ill during part of her time on the show and had brain related issues that made it a struggle to talk from her Lyme disease which had at the time been undiagnosed so I think people gave her a bit of a free pass there as well and couldn't help but to feel bad for her because she always seemed genuinely nice and lookng out for people in her best way. Unfortunately she was ignorant and of course damaged as a person so it didn't always come out right but I don't think she ever MEANT to be hurtful to anyone nor her daughters. Doesn't mean it didn't happen though.

As a mother of two, now adult children, I can honestly say I took great pride in to seeing that my children developed and maintained a healthy relationship with food. I took the time to educate myself on nutrition and cooking for my family. Sure, there are limits when it comes to things like sugar's, salt, chemicals and dyes. What Yolanda is doing is abusive and I say that with a heavy heart. I do believe she loves her children she just has to much focus on them succeeding career wise.
I agree with you on this my mother was very vocal and mindful about my sister and I gaining excessive weight due to her being obese at one point and due to her short statue at heavy chest cost her a lot of health issues so she would tell us be mindful of what you eat and how you eat always make sure to eat healthy exercise because it’s easy to put on the weight but sometimes it’s even harder to take it off. And I’m so thankful for that because I also come from a family that obesity runs from both sides mom and dad and seen my mom struggle with her weight hurt me but in the end she succeeded she lost her weight she got a breast reduction we both went through thyroid cancer we got our thyroid removed ,me as an adult .but I’m so thankful for the way she was so in tune with my sister and I about living a healthy life. And now me as a mother of five beautiful kids I instill in them as to always be mindful with their bodies we only have one ,to eat balance meals healthy exercise and they are so great very active kids they rather be outside than indoors.it’s all due to my mom because if it wasn’t for her showing me that as a teenager I feel like myself would’ve been in a different place.

This is why parents need to learn to live their life as happy and fullfilling as they can: so they dont have to push their sons and daughters to dangerous limits in order to live things they did not.
Same thing happened to Angelina Jolie. she said it herself. her mother pushed her to be a model (first) and an actress at a really young age.when her mother died she said (about being an actress) "I don't know if that was really my dream or if I was only trying to please her, the only thing I know once she died I wasn't interested anymore in acting...".now you can see Angelina letting their teen daughters being just normal teen and she doesn't push them into modeling or in acting.she knows the dangers....she was (and is) anorexic and took class a drugs to cope with the pressure of being too young in a world of sharks.

I love it. I'm here for the raw honesty. People really need to stop being so offended by the truth. That industry is brutal and particularly selective. If they want a look and they're paying you to attain it, then please deliver or find another industry that doesn't bruise your ego or hurt your feelings. I love Yolanda and European people for that. That doesn't mean I think people should just take abuse. Not at all. But to take it with such grace and elegance is impressive. I could not be that way. I have too much of a temper. I'd love to be able to control my emotions that way.

@@nonilogical4752 I agree with that. If one can avoid the abuse, it's much better to do so. But for people who can't just leave, or people who don't want to leave for whatever reason, I think it's beautiful to be able to accept it so graciously.
I wasn't treated very well by my father. I wouldn't exactly call it abuse, just mistreatment. I could not leave when I was a minor, so we fought a lot and now we have no relationship at all. Had I been more gracious, perhaps our adult relationship could have been salvaged. But now he dislikes me as much as I dislike him and I don't see any way to fix it, so we just never talk. Haven't in years.

What shocks me more is that Gigi is an adult and can’t defend herself from her toxic mother and stand up for herself! I mean she wasn't being raised by a strong woman. She was sheltered and coddled by a woman who herself was a victim and projecting it on her. In a lot of ways that can stunt a person and make them not able to have the courage to or understanding to stand up for themselves or defend themselves and often times they don't want to because they're brainwashed by mommy wanting the best for them or so they're told.

She’s an adult and can break away from her mother for her own mental health. And the safety of her child… that’s what she can do. Just because it’s family doesn’t mean you have to put up with their toxic behavior.
It kinda makes me sad for Gigi. It’s great that she’s successful now, but modelling wasn’t really her passion. You could tell in the early days. She loved volleyball and psychology. A good mother supports their child’s passions, not lives through them vicariously. Yolanda saw Gigi as an extension of herself and that’s why she was so hellbent on stage managing her and getting her into modelling.
It speaks volumes to me because no caring mum sees a healthy aspiring athlete of a daughter and thinks “let’s belittle her hobbies, starve her skinny and get her into a cutthroat industry”. It’s not normal. No matter how you twist it.

But despite the fact that most of us speak english, it can still be hard to correctly convey nuance and pick up all the mannerisms in the way that native speakers do. We're also very direct, so i'll give her the benefit of the doubt there.
