At this point, hundreds of thousands of people have been internally displaced because of the brutal Burmese Military Regime who have been arbitrarily murdering, maiming, committing sexual violence towards, forcibly relocating, and torching houses of, innocent civilians. They have also imprisoned pro- democracy journalist and activists, no one is safe there.
Feb. 1, 2022 is the one year mark since the Burmese Military Junta staged a bloody coup, ousted the democratically elected Government and turned what was a burgeoning democracy on it’s head. And the fighting is just intensifying. There hasn’t been support from the International community and the citizens have done a fiercely brave and incredible job of standing up for themselves. There are still daily protests all across the country, calling for the Junta to step down, and all of the ethnic armies fight with their lives daily, the CDM (Civil Disobedience Movement) and PDF (People’s Defense Force) movements are making change. Villagers who have already been worn down by Covid, economic crisis, and the Coup are also helping their own people, from inside Myanmar and from Thailand. The Burmese diaspora is helping worldwide.
I think it is fair to say that there is a lot of turmoil in the world and not everyone can care about each crisis, so we thank you very much for your contribution here, for whatever reason made you want to help.
Here is a recent article written by a journalist who went into the informal camps of refugees and IDPs with us this week, along the Moei River, in Mae Sot, Tak, Thailand, this is the real story of what is happening: www.aljazeera....
The IDP and refugee camps, don’t have enough drinking water or food, and with recent, unseasonal rains in Thailand, they have had to sit in the cold downpour with no cover. Diarrhea and cold like illness is rampant and people are wearing down from living in extreme conditions and stress for so long. A hot, clean meal, warm blanket, pain reliever med, drinking water, goes so far to keep them going.
Here are some ways you can help:
1. Donate funds so that we can continue to purchase dry food goods and essentials in bulk and prepare emergency ration packs for families and hot meals, drinking water, medicines.
2. Join the fundraiser event for this channel at the end of February. ALL proceeds go directly to aid. Subscribe and hit the bell notification so you don't miss it!
3. Hold some kind of fundraising event and donate the money towards the cause, can be a sale at your business, a home event, online event, get creative.

You forgot the seconds half of the Song were it change from oroguitas to mariposa
you have 69 likes💀
You cut off the best part of the song
That's our abuela's stories. It's so hard to explain the Latin and the immigrant experience, pero Lin really showed how the generational trauma is born - not out of entitlement - out of fear and loss and so much love that it becomes this survival mission to keep going. I cried and feel grief for all mi gente whose land, people, families, and loved ones have all been lost to our countries destabilized and history broken. This song is so powerful and I'm so grateful it was sung in Spanish - it means that much more to us.
Definitely. The movie is so insightful. You could tell they did research and talked to and met people with lived experience
That’s so true. It’s my abuelas story. I love her.
a mi tambien, mis abuelitos were both born in times of the depression and world war 2 and they immigrated here and so much other, like. They went through so much, they are so strong for pulling through. It is because of them I'm able to live this life
I don't think generational trauma is unique to poc (people of colour.) communities though ask any culture on this planet and you'll get stories of humanity at its worst.
Honestly, I think that if we HEARD Abuella Alma scream in that moment of abject grief, it would take AWAY from the power of the moment. As it is, that moment is probably the most absolute, pure moment of anguish and despair I have ever seen in ANY animated moment.
Agreed, by not audibly hearing her, you hear her in your soul
If you were experiencing it you probably wouldn’t hear your scream either…
Its not a scream you hear, its one you feel that just breaks your heart. Just watching it you can see how completely her whole world collapses.
Agree 100%
I wailed and sobbed when my brother was killed. The sound of my own scream from that night is seared into my memory.
I think that without hearing Alma's scream, it leaves it open for us to project our own traumatic experiences onto what's happening in the scene. For me, it made me think of the night my brother was killed, and that's much more powerful than any voice over they might have added.
My favourite detail in this whole movie is how Mirabel’s clothes have butterflies on them - mariposas. Abuela Alma is the Oruguita: holding on too tight, so afraid of change in a world that never stops changing. Mirabel is the mariposa who teaches the family to let the walls down, look to tomorrow, embrace change, and reunite.
That's perfect. :)
Eso es exacto lo que significa ;) Muy bien dicho
Aaaaaayyyyy this just made me tear up. You're right.
One of the subtle Easter eggs in the movie is that the bloodline family members have a symbol embroidered on their clothing that represents their miracle -- except Mirabel, who has symbols for all of her family embroidered on her skirt.
@@dizzyMongoose I actually didn't catch that until someone mentioned it in a video and then I was like ah man, that's cool. Its weird because those are usually the kind of details I don't miss.
I actually think NOT hearing Abuela Alma scream makes the heartbreak more impactful. You can tell from the pain, grief and anguish that she is devastated. I could even feel it just from watching it.
And I don’t know if you noticed but Isabella and Mariano are practically identical to Alma and Pedro. It’s why Abuela was projecting; she wanted Isabella and Mariano to have the life she never got to have with Pedro, which put so much pressure on Isabella.
I just noticed that and now I feel it so much stronger
I completely agree about not hearing the scream... less IS more.
The pain is perfectly conveyed without any sound.
I agree, I don't think I've ever seen a face animated like that in any Disney movie ever. It's heartbreaking.
Hearing it would have ruined the magic.
You can imagine it as painful and anguished as you can manage
I like to think of it as a visual of her suffering in silence
One detail that really caught my heart on this movie is that, when telling her story to her descendants, she spared them from the painful details. If you compare how she tells the story to Maribel years back and how she retells it every “door” event, in the memories, her young self is not crying, screaming in pain… She just looks a bit sad. This time, Maribel gets to hear how painful it actually was.
Many times, our ancestors will not share the gruesome details of their past that have shaped them into what we have got to know of them. But the more we grow old, if we have the wisdom, we start understanding it and having mercy on them for their flaws…💔😔
I wished you finished the whole song, when Maribel and Abuela hugged and then the lyrics oroguitas transformed into mariposas. It’s truly enchanting to both eyes and ears!
I imagine the scream is something like Eliza's when Phillip died in Hamilton. Both gut-wrenching, both written by Lin.
Omgosh, her scream broke my heart and had me crying too
This is exactly how I felt as well. It was a total punch to the guy especially since I’d just had kids when Hamilton came out.
Hearing/Seeing someone cry like this is the worst thing in the world, the sheer grief shatters a heart....
@@nevamoore5192 Yeah TwT plus ya don't know how to help em calm down
I actually added Elizas scream and Wanda Maxximof scream on a tiktok I did to see how it sounded jejejeje.
The way they animated abuela crying and screaming honestly it felt like I could hear it in the theater. It hurt so much to imagine it over the song as yatra sang it. I was losing it in the theater they honestly did such a beautiful job animating it.
Sebastian Yatra is already a well know recording artist in Latin America just so you know 💯
The moment i heard this w/o actually knowing,I knew his voice was soo familiar & i knew it was him.I was like DIOS MIO😱! Sebastian!
Yatra Yatraaaa
@@jime_maq3132 ❤️
no puedo creer que le llore a una cancion de yatra
@@daresh5064 de hecho la canción es de Lin Manuel Miranda…Yatra solo la canta, my guy😊
This movie was based on a Colombian civil war (Political Left-wing vs Right wing) after the assassination of President Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, over 2.5 million Colombians had to flee their land, my great grandfather lost his farm basically lost everything so this song cut deep, I'm sure a lot of people in the world can relate to this story.
No it was not… it’s not based in a specific event of history, it’s a depiction of the general violence that has happened in colombia basically since it’s independence and it’s still going
That is heard to hear and more painful for your grandfather to have gone through. I’m glad that other ethnicities are not only represented through physical appearance but through cultural significance as well. Some people like to overlook truth in fiction because they see a Disney movie and dismiss it as just that, but their ignorance blocks them from connecting and empathizing with others. Thank you for sharing.
wasn't it based on the Thousand Days' War? Most comments I've read pointed at that one based on fashion and technology shown in the movie.
@@Azaghal1988 Yes, it was indeed La Guerra de los Mil Días (arouns 1900), not Bogotazo.
@@jaimepe4765 where does it say that? As far as I know, Disney hasn't released an official explanation, so everything is speculation. Forceful displacement has been around in Colombia from the very beginning of the country. There is no political message or guilt towards anybody, just plain, old daily violence, like the one we see everyday in Colombia today
For what it's worth, her screaming and us not being able to hear it could represent her suffering in silence for so long until this moment where she bares it all to mirabel
Wow great way to analyze! ❤
I'm from India but just loved the meaning behind it and the emotions with which he's singing that i couldn't resist not learning this song. It's a beautifully written and sung song.
I haven't seen this in the comments yet, but look at how Abuela moves throughout the song. From the care-free girl with the love of her life to the widow holding onto the miracle to protect her family. In the beginning she is swaying and over exaggerates her movements to then standing straight with minimal movements at the end. These are details I absolutely love and it just shows what she has gone through.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read that this is the first song that Lin Manuel Miranda wrote entirely in Spanish.
Totally right! He had his wife look over the lyrics/listen to the song and she cried! 🥲 he said something like she's a tough woman but she thought this song was perfect
Yees, and he's so incredibly proud of it!
My favorite thing abot Dos Orugitas is how the meaning still shines through even if the listener doesn't understand the language.
Hi Audrey:) As a colombian, this song hits so hard. This part shows how the colombian armed conflict has affected our country for so many years. I can't stop crying every time I watch this part in Dos Oruguitas, is so sad because is real. Also the representation of this hard topic in a Disney movie is very important.
Great reaction! thank u!
I really really hope this gets to be performed live at the Oscars and is nominated for best song.
My favorite bit about this scene is how it contrasts with the way this story is told in the beginning. In the beginning, the story is told with just enough detail for us as the audience to understand, while minimizing the emotional impact, much like how an adult would tell a child the story.
But here in this scene, we get all of the raw anguish, something that probably no other family member had ever seen or been told.
This song really does such a great job. The candle was the holder of the magic, but to Mirabel's Abuela, it was the tombstone of her husband. A constant reminder of what she lost to get the magic that saved them.
Since you watched the movie, I can point out that when Mirabel brings back the magic, there is no candle. I personally think Mirabel took its place. For Abuela though, the removal of the candle is a removal of the burden of her past.
So many layers. It was such a well thought out movie, which just adds so much to songs that are also so beautiful.
Abuela's real gift was being able to carry the triplets in her arms all that time with nothing to help her but her own arms.
On the very day she gave birth to them as well apparently.
With an open flame right in front of their faces!
Abuela Alma is strong AF
She was holding the candle too all at the same time
Fan theory: Abuela used to be a waitress and she’s flexing her “carry everything in one trip” skills 😉😂
Everyone always talks about Bruno (and with good reason.. it's amazing!) but IMO Dos Oruguitas is the most powerful song in Encanto... and I think might be my favourite Lin song that he's written. That's a big call because it's up against some heavy hitters.
I love that the scene HAS no dialogue, but you know exactly what is happening and what everyone is feeling at every moment - this is masterful storytelling both in the animation, editing, songwriting and performance. Great reaction as always, Audrey :)
For anyone interested in diving more into the music theory behind Dos Oruguitas - Howard Ho has just released a new video doing just that - it's worth seeking out if you're interested - all his stuff is amazing for music theory nerds.
Lin had said its his favorite as well infact it is the song that he had put forward from the movie for Oscar consideration
The song is the soul of the movie, it is for this song that the movie exists.
Sebastián Yatra has a lot of ballads like this and his voice is so calm and amazing! ❤️🇨🇴
_urgh, this song is just so perfect!_ 💗
2:30 the bug crawling on Audrey's hand & fingers doing a cameo, tho!!!🏆✨
OMG!!!! I'm so creeped out by that now!!!!
i tried to wipe it off my laptop. glad i was not the only one who saw it. but on to the song the end is absolutely amazing and i wish i had seen your reaction to it
Me over here slapping my screen thinking it was on it
I was looking for this comment 😂😂😂
You left out the best verse about the butterflies!!!
Ay mariposas!
Once young Abuela Alma’s crying scene starts I just start bawling and this song is just so beautiful
Wait are we not missing the last part of the song that its singing about butterflies
Yeah we didn't finish the song there
Honestly, as soon as he starts singing, my eyes instantly well up with tears...
This song and All of Me makes me ugly cry every time.
They are both so beautiful and set the moment so well.
I was glad they didn't include the sound of her scream. I've heard that kind of scream and anguish in real life and my mind filled in the sound on its own, my chest constricted, my heart clenched, and my throat tightened.
It's the kind of sound that no matter how good an actor is they truely cannot duplicate it. I was shocked they animated that facial expression so well. That sound comes from a deep place and is full of such grief and anguish that I hope most people never hear it.
It's been over a year and I absolutely cannot listen to this song without crying.
I like both the spanish and english versions of this song
The Spanish has more emotion, you could tell the guy singing in the studio was feeling the emotion of the scene and I'm glad that this version was the one shown on screen.
The English version is musically better. The singer uses a stronger approach, and belts more, so you can really admire the vocals.
The Spanish version is not only more emotional, it blends with what is on screen better. The English is standalone, so... yeah.
Also it’s because he’s Colombian so he felt every single word
yeah but that's why the Spanish version is better, because the song is not about the vocals but about the emotions conveyed with both the story and the song
Personally, I did hear her crying out. More than I have heard anyone crying out before
Not only was the music everything in this movie, the VISUALS were everything, so seeing Alma cry instead of hearing it was more emotionally impacting, they did that on purpose because that was all in the past, same as how they never allowed you to hear what the grandfather or her voices sound like when they were younger
Oh god, I didn’t realize this until now…after he kisses Alma goodbye you can see his lips say, “I love You” When I saw it I instantly got teared up.
I always took it that Alma screamed so loud it was silent.
You know after Abuela and Mirabel's speech at the end here, the song actually has a big crescendo ending too :3
Hi Audrey! Yes, you pronounced it correctly (Dos oruguitas -Two Little Caterpillars-) 😉. This song and its lyrics are both beautiful and painful. This is a representation of my country’s cruel history (in the past with several civil wars and guerrillas). People were and are still forced to leave their homes and find a new future. Also, you should add the last part of this song and perhaps a reaction to its English version. Love your videos, keep up that awesome vibe!
Yeah, the ending really makes the whole song come together. I'm glad I can understand it because it has such a much stronger impact when you understand the words which is why I'm glad they did it in English for the non-Spanish speakers.
2:35 The bug on ur hand looking cute :)
Stopppppp I was looking for this comment lol
Honestly i feel like it's more powerful that you couldnt hear her scream, because the animators did such a good job of making her pain and agony so painfully visible on her expression and in her entire physical reaction to losing her husband, that you can feel the scream in your soul even though you cant hear it. I sobbed like a god damn baby at this part...
The animation is non-diegetic except for the sound of the horses' hooves, because it's not a character song. Of course, we know that that's Abuelo Pedro, but he is not a character in the story, per se. And not hearing what actually happens except for the horses (and even that is not at all loud), gives the scene a cinematic effect. We're watching it happen and not hearing Abuela Alma scream and cry is more heightened, than if we did. It's almost like we hear ourselves cry for her.
At the beginning of the movie, when Abuella is telling her story, her grief is downplayed in the animation to her just softly sinking to the ground with a soft sorrowful expression, showing she couldn’t bring herself to be fully honest about her grief. So when she is opening up to Mirabelle during this sequence, we see just how devastating the whole thing was when we see her true expression of despair, the scream so deafening and heartbreaking that they don’t dare to let us hear it. She is finally allowing herself to be vulnerable after suffering in silence for so many years so she could be a source of strength for her family as the matriarch.
I made such a scream when I was about 9-10 years old. My mom was on the phone with her family in the Philippines. Lolo, her father, was sick and didn’t have long left. She had just confirmed her flight and was ready to fly out soon. He told her he was tired and she told him it was okay to go to sleep. He closed his eyes and he was gone. All while she was on the phone, unable to see what was happening. I saw her run inside and crumble on the couch in tears. I knew right then what had happened and ran to my room. I loved my Lolo. I may have only seen him twice in my childhood, but I loved him. I loved guiding him around the house because he couldn’t see anymore. I loved sitting beside him and just being with him, talking to him. So when it hit me that he had gone, I buried my face into my bed and let out a scream so guttural and painful that my throat had become hoarse for awhile. My dad had to come in and comfort me after he left mom to recollect herself. I still cry whenever I talk about him. I don’t think I’ll ever stop. But I know he’s not in pain anymore. He can see as clear as day now and he’s always watching over me.
Seeing the abuela just....
Wail in pure agony, soul shattering.
It's just.... Heartbreak.
I totally understand that "wanting to hear her scream" feeling during that moment. I feel like the cliffs rising around them was the visual representation of that. So intense. It's my favorite moment in this brilliant movie.
The way this movie depicted generational trauma is unlike any other movie I've ever seen. It makes a lot of different, seemingly conflicting ideas coexist as all simultaneously true and shows that she is not a black and white character. She's not a bad person, but she cultivated a toxic environment that had a bad impact on her and everyone else. She had good reasons to be afraid, but that doesn't eliminate the fact that she has inadvertently hurt her family and failed to recognize it until things got critical. She didn't fail to realize out of ill intent, She was blinded and paralyzed by fear. There's so, so many layers and so much uniqueness to her character and at the same time she's, sadly, a reflection of a reality that a lot of latin american families have lived and still live. She's not a bad person at heart, she's a product of cirumstance. Her neglect and hypervigilance, her need to control everything and everyone around her while turning on a blind eye to the damage it is doing are all bad things and this movie makes it very clear that she was in the wrong.
We see all the anxiety she created in her family and their suffering is never downplayed to justify Alma's behaviour. At the same time, we all know she's a fundamentally good person, even if her trauma has driven her to make choices that hurt other people. She's not the villain or the hero, she's a victim of the true antagonist of the film: environment and circumstance. It's not easy to make that message come across in a movie, yet the writers did it masterfully. The sincerity and care that went into this film is just...out of this world.
No matter how many times I hear or watch someone react to this song I cry every time.
Since he doesn't actually get a voice in the movie, I like to think that, in universe, it's Abuelo Pedro who's singing the song to Abuela, in the past.
And the lyrics is just 😭😭😭 I am an immigrant and cry like a baby with that song. The way the just must grow apart and build a new future.
Every time you paused the song, you made my tears go away because what was happening to Abuela and Abuelo just tears me up.
When I tell you I started SCREAMING at you at 2:33 to shake that Ant of your hand 😭 It was giving me anxiety! 😂 Love your review!
I had NO IDEA!! OMG I'm super creeeped out now!!
I think was an ant on my screen!
This has to be the most impactful song of the movie. It’s even stronger when you know what the lyrics mean.
Aprendimos de nuestra historia y estamos logrando construir el país que los colombianos soñamos, que viva COLOMBIA, el país del realismo mágico, que honor ser colombiano 🇨🇴❤️
This song makes me cry every time. Every time. Without fail.
This song has a way of making me completly break down crying without me understanding a word of it and I love that. So beautifully tragic.
They animators that worked on abuela and abuelo in that sequence deserve an acting award. It's the details in the looks and body language that cast a spell and break my heart everytime I watch this scene.
6:20 There's a similar scene in Sophie's Choice, where Meryl Streep does that same "silent scream" thing. When interviewed, she admitted that she thought at the time she was screaming, but in the movie isn't making any actual sounds.
I love how this video shows how we don’t need to know the words to the song to appreciate the voice and the passion behind them.
U should react to more Spanish music it would really expand your audience
Like Yatra’s original songs that are amazing
He can make hits without being offensive and I love his lyrics
I cry everytime I watch Pedro die because me and my fiancé just had a baby and the fact abuela has to raise THREE by herself is heart wrenching idk how I would even survive losing the love of my life
I think I might have listened to this song a dozen times at this point. It makes me emotional every time 😭
Great reaction! This song hits so hard in the feels!
We learned from our history and we are managing to build the country that we Colombians dream of, long live COLOMBIA, the country of magical realism, what an honor to be Colombian 🇨🇴❤️
The last part of the song is powerful I hope you show your reaction to it during the watch party
This song still makes me cry every time i Listen to it
This song has been nominated for an Oscar and it deserves an Oscar so much 🥺
The fact that you can hear the scream without actually hearing it shows just how affecting it is.
Being from a Latin family, when I heard the lyrics, I started crying it reminded me of my grandpa
that bug on the finger made me scream i barely focused lol
You just are an amazing soul. Thank you for inspiring us to donate.
Thank you for commenting about this. I have been shocked at the lack of responses. Myanmar refugees are dying right now and we all need to come together and do what we can to help them, even if it's as simple as posting about it in videos. Change comes with awareness.
Such a beautiful song, I don't speak a word of Spanish, but cry everytime. Testament to a beautiful voice, beautiful language and beautiful songwriting x
Ooh, good point about the screaming and crying over the music. I actually wish they'd done that. This movie really got to me, and especially this scene, but wow. Now I feel like I didn't get the full experience.
You have to listen to the last verse! You’ve caught the change in vocals as Sebastian Yatra moves from talking about the caterpillars to the pupae but you’ve missed the song’s final change into butterflies. I’d recommend both looking into a translation to see how the themes impact the performance but for sure listen to the final verse. Right now this misses the uplift that is the payoff to the pain you’ve ended on.
I agree, adding her cry out over the music, even if it was faintly heard would have been more impactful.
This was the song entered for the Oscars, not Bruno...the more I watch this song, the more I understand why it was chosen. This song is impactful, brutal, soft and emotional. It is everything the movie has built up to. Surface Pressure and Way I go had their themes, Bruno and Madrigal were fun and I'm Not Fine was emotional...but this song was all of it, whispered into our ears.
Listening to this song again, I've just noticed that when abuela sings her verse in the Familia madrigal song she uses the melody of this song.
Beautiful song, my daughter love this movie. I felt so touched by this song.
I lost my brother recently, and the raw emotion in his singing called out to my pain too. I instantly understood Abuela, and shared in her grief.
Great reaction!!!! I also wanted to let you know that you missed a section of the song at the end, after the scene where Abela and Mirabel talk. Its my favorite part of the song, of you have time to go back and listen to it you will see why! :D
I hate listening to this song because I cry. Every. Damn. Time. It's just so beautiful and sad, and the feelings are so strong. You can feel the loss. I hate it and I love it.
People in a fb Encanto meme group: Dos Oruguitas: Oh boy, time to cry again!
In interviews Linn Manuel said that he didn't want to do an English version of the song ,but Sebastian the singer beagged him for one. Sebastian told Linn Manuel that he wanted to keep the Spanish words for caterpillars and butterflies and Linn Manuel agreed to write it
I couldn't imagine being this artist and having to play this so often without crying
You didn’t see the last part of the song, is the most beautiful but is after a second of movie, you should see that is literally music for the soul
I only find out right now but thank you so much for raising awareness for Myanmar. The same tragedy still continues to happen in here and your support is a big help for our people ❤️
The butterfly scene was also stunning. There’s more to the video. But knowing the lore and hearing the pain Sebastián Yatra adds brings me tears.
This sad asf :/ I was so engrossed with how pretty it was when I first watched it that I really missed how emotional this was, minus Alma's genuine reaction to Pedro's death vs. the more muted way it was depicted at the beginning of the film; I _felt_ that grief from the first time I saw it. But the whole tragedy of the scene didn't strike me until my second watch. That woman went _through_ it and it explains so much about hiw she allowed her family to suffer in turn without realizing it. Ugh, I can't with this movie!
Did you skip over WHAT ELSE CAN I DO? I really want you to react to it
I assume this is from her movie reaction.
It's coming
Yayyy!!!
Thank you!!!
@@SongsFromASuitcase you literally skipped the best part of the Dos Orugüitas song...
I think hearing the scream would have lessened the raw emotion behind it. That sound of that kind of pain isn’t something you can truly replicate and anything less would do it a disservice. Instead it’s pain you feel deep in your bones, in your soul. Abuela’s pain and love built physical walls to protect her family but also built her emotional walls at the same time and for the same reason. It’s such a heartbreaking moment and the song just fits perfectly-Lin Manuel-Miranda is a genius and I hope this wins him an Oscar!
Its not the single moment scream of someone dying
But look up What Hurts The Most music video
The girl's screams toward her father are heart wrenching
I am so glad that the little Spanish I learned in High School was enough for me to work out the lyrics to this song the first time I heard it. (Granted i had to listen to it like 5 times in a row) Knowing the meanign of the words really makes that whole scene hit so much harder.
I only saw it once before watching this video. But the way its animated, I thought I heard her scream, it's animated and directed so well. I heard it in my mind. And it was gut wrenching
I think they totally modeled Pedro after Sebastián Yatra's face. And if it was intentional, it would also mean that this song is Pedro's last letter to Alma. He wants her to move on.
You should react to him singing this one live
I cry every-time, our abuelos went through so much to keep us alive to keep us fed to keep us going. They went through so much💔
The music transported us into the memory, her love, pain, and loss.
I don't understand a word of this song; I simply soak in the tone of tenderness and love, and am devastated by the sacrifice and love in the video. The song becomes quieter as Abuela rebuilds and her children grow, but she never gets over the loss of her Pedro. You cut out a bit too early, as the song takes on a tone of hope and joy as the sun rises, and Abuela and Mirabel reconcile.
Maybe not over top of the music, but to hear like a whispered scream in the background as this beautiful song is playing overtop of it would be *haunting* to watch/listen to.
The song is of course about two butterflies, but I saw another video that pointed out that Mirabel has a pink butterfly pin on her shoulder so it's kinda been there the whole time.
It’s hard not to tear up over this song and the movie scene.
All of you makes me cry all the time.
