"I'm going to shoot the arrow at a 45° angle, not higher, not lower."
*proceeds a 20° angle*
😂😂😂👏👏👏
I would have guessed 25 to 30 but he was way off his mark
haha that's my guess too 20º
This was going to be my comment. Beat me to it
That was one of the worst releases I have ever seen....
the temperature was closer to 45 degrees than the angle was.
This guy needs to buy a protractor 😅
Mean lean meme machine
I think he instinctively knows that 45 degrees isn’t the angle of maximum range for an arrow. More like 30.
@@peterboneg it is for cannons, rifles, blowguns, slingshots, do you know for sure that arrows are different? And do you know why?
@@peterboneg I think you instinctively need one two 😅30 degrees, seriously do you have a protractor, pull it out sometime and take a look at it.
He does not need a lesson in archery, but he does need a lesson in geometry.
haha ... lol
@@lshepherd5859 his 45 was more like 25 lol
Of course, since he made the same mistake with all the bows, the relative performance should be correct.

I think he really needs archery lessons as well

The camera man is awesome. He is like the comic relief. I love that dude!
This is Abbet and Costello.
He is too much lol
The current distance records for recurve field bows is over 720m, for compound bows it's 1207m, the crossbow record it's 1,871m. For the traditional English wood longbow it's about 412m, for Turkish horn bow it's 566m.The unlimited conventional recurve flight bow record is 1,222m. That's for guys who know what a real 45 degree angle looks like...
I did notice his 45 dropped. But impressive none the less.
Thanks,you just gave all the information that I was searching for.
Those are supposedly the records but I'm not convinced they are accurate.
The physics don't seem to add up.
To calculate the distance of a projectile (without air resistance) at 45 degrees we can use the formula: D= g(V/g)^2, where D is distance, V is launch velocity, and g is gravity (32.174 fps/s). We can find the speed needed to travel any distance by V=g•sqrt(D/g).
In reality, neglecting air resistance is almost always ridiculous. Even so, by neglecting air resistance we can calculate the MINIMUM speeds needed to achieve those distances.
412m = 209 fps (longbow)
720m = 275 fps (recurve)
1207m = 357 fps (compound)
1222m = 359 fps (unlimited recurve)
1871m = 445 fps (crossbow)
I reiterate, these are the MINIMUM speeds necessary to fly the stated distances with zero air resistance and a 45 degree launch angle.
In reality air resistance is not zero so the launch speed would have to be even higher to compensate for speed losses during the flight.
Even so, the minimum speeds are pretty much the physical limits of each bow category so it's hard to see how they could possibly be shooting fast enough to compensate for speed losses.
Are we supposed to believe a crossbow arrow can fly for 13.8 seconds at 445 fps without losing any speed? That's a lot of time facing against a very strong wind (over 300 miles per hour). Of course launching at a higher speed could compensate for the speed losses but how much faster would it need to be launched? And is that really within the physical ability of a mechanical crossbow?
@@robinlehnerd1475 Accurate. Witnessed, accurately measured and recorded. May have been exceeded in some cases. Some are by a scientist at SNL (Sandia National Laboratory) who builds his own bows and arrows. Turkish horn bows can do 375 fps with flight arrows, and Don Brown has launched arrows at 500 fps from hand held conventional bows. You need to get out more, go back to math class, do better research - whatever works for you to catch up with the reality that has been demonstrated and can be believed.
Yeah the problem is fps if your ibo speed is a bare shaft arrow it’s supposed to be 5 gr per # but u shoot a super light arrow that’s fletched and this is a guess but the drag from that light of arrow is slowing the arrow down so u would have to count that wind level service etc u get the point
Imagine how far they’d have gone if he’d actually fired at 45° ?
Shooting at actual 45° I measured 250 meters with a bow very similar to the one he shot first and got 114 meters. I don't think they'd be even able to find the arrows shot with the other bows.
I was about to comment on that. He's more like 30° every time.
45 is optimal on paper. in the real world, a slightly lower angle achieves more distance. mainly due to the variables related to air resistance, wind, drag.
@@dnichl No, 45 degrees is optimum if you base your calculations on school physics. The school physics does real havoc to science giving some view that things only work in theory but practice is different.
The one who calculated the 45 degrees as Newton. Guess who developed the formulas for air resistance. He was also Newton.
Not much better because 45 degrees is NOT optimal outside of theoretical vacuum.
In the real world, if you shoot at 45, you're going to lose more energy to moving the arrow vertically than horizontally.
I’ve never seen such an unprepared video be worth so much content
I could not imagine a more scientific test

You guys are so funny to watch, a couple of amigos laughing and having the best of fun! Who gives a shit if it is scientific or calculated, it was just 2 guys having fun in the desert. People relax and simply enjoy it for what it is and if it means nothing to you just move on and leave no comment. I have been hunting for over 40 years, spent 12 years in the special forces, and I currently have begun to big bore air rifling and bow hunt. I was totally entertained with this video, especially with the comradery between you two, and I would love to hang with you guys. So keep up the great videos and keep us entertained!
I think we all enjoyed the video for the same reason. Though once he gave his ideal of what he thought would be the optimal angle for distance. The guy part in us all wants to wonder if that is true. So, I though in would share a quick scientific answer. Yep, it is correct. Based on my science degree where we discussed this very thing in class.
Thank you so much
Edwin Sarkissian yeah good video made me laugh along with you guys

This is the most unscientific comparison video I’ve ever seen…. And yet it was still so much fun 😂
this was the most unscientific thing i've ever seen
Was not meant to be for science lol
Does it always have to be scientific?
By scientific, you mean reproducible. How can you compare them unless they have the same initial conditions. They should have had someone to the side, calling higher or lower to get the same angle for each shot. Due to air resistance, the angle should be slightly less than 45 degrees, probably 35 to 40, but it should be the same for each shot. Also, he should pull the arrow back the same distance, such as putting a mark on the arrow that should reach the bow before being released.
But its filmed in 360p withban old toothbrush
Sam Mathieu it was for FUN people , he never said it was a scientific test!
I agree about the angle...it was about 20 degrees. My standard recurve bow with a 42 pound draw weight will shoot an arrow nearly 400 yards at 45 degrees. The former world record for an 80 pound bow was 900 yards. His last compound bow should have made over 1000 yards...well over 1000 yards.
You guys have way too much fun... Wish I was there to experience it there 1st hand...! 😍😍
I love this channel, you guys crack me up..."the snakes" LMAO!!

I’m in stitches 🤣🤣🤣🤣 brilliant you guys
This was a potentially interesting experiment if it had been taken seriously. Nearly 60 years ago I belonged to an archery club. We did such an experiment. First we tried to establish what the best angle is. 45 degrees is the best angle in a vacuum. With air resistance the best angle is usually lower but it is different for each weapon and each projectile. At least some attempt to launch at the same angle would have been good.
