Very good presentation.
I know this video is older, but I have to say…you really know how to present this material. I have the books from you as well. Like most of the other people, I am going to school and plan on doing this as my retirement job. Thanks for the effort!
Watching again!!
Very clear and calmly spoken by someone that knows what he is talking about! Thanks Craig.
Glad you enjoyed it
You have such great teaching skills. Thanks, bro.

I HOPE YOU ARE A TEACHER BECAUSE YOU DO A VERY GOOD JOB TEACHING. THANKS.
Bill, thank you and yes I am a teacher of HVACR in New Jersey and have written a couple HVACR books at www.acservicetech.com, thanks!
Very good teaching. Natural teacher!
Excellent video! I have this same heat pump. It didn't work well below 40. Just figured thats how they work. Then I got to inspecting it more. I found the defrost temp sensor on the coil hanging out of the little tube.... No wonder it wasn't defrosting properly. I zip tied it back and now heat pump works much much better.
You're amazing! That's why I support you on patron!
Thank you so much Brian!
Beautiful information thanks buddy
Thanks a lot Walter!
your a great teacher ive been binge watching your videos so i can replacee my split a/c with a heat pump thanks for all your hard work buddy !!!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
For sure took me almost 4 years of watching these videos to install split myself, now thanks to these videos I know how to save lot of money doing my own hvac diy work as a proud homeowner.
Dude! This is exactly what I wanted to see from you. You read my mind. Thank you so much bud!

Very nice video
Wow lots of good information Craig I don’t know anything about heat pumps a little overwhelming for a newbie lol
Great video Craig!
Glad you enjoyed it
Great info, Craig if you want to pressure check that outdoor unit lets say after compressor replacement or leak check, due you have to shift the 4 way valve to test complete coil?
You make it easy to understand
very good video
Great explanation!

At 8:40 you mentioned that a Thermistor operates the same way that a Type-K Thermocouple does. I fear this may be a little confusing. Thermistors change their resistance value at different temperatures. Resistance may decrease or increase depending on the type of Thermistor. RTDs are similar. Thermocouples create a tiny current which changes with temperature. They are both temperature probes but they do so using completely different effects.
Thanks for the great content! I really like your video. It's excellent. I learned so much.
Nice video, should help a lot of people.
Glad you think so!

Thanks Erich and Merry Christmas!
Why do some units, usually Trane in my experience, come with a start cap and potential relay while most others just have a standard dual capacitor?
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
Fucking hell, I hope one day I have your knowledge, you TRULY knowledgeable in what you do

is goodman heat pump GSZB404210A good for 2014 mobile home? in amarillo texas , r19 walls, r25 roof, r 30 floor, singal pan widows, 1216 sqft home. not air tight it has leaks. temps below 20 is like 8 days during heating seanson. i set termostat to 74 f and am using electric furnace 10 kwh for 108 hours a month. my electric rate is 0.097 kwh. the highest bill to have was 250 but that is from whole home usage. the goodman heat pump says it uses 2.9 kwh at 10 f with a COP of 2.08 and a 2.7 kwh with COP of 1.34 at -5 f. the price for the 5 ton a-coil and 3.5 heat pump is $4,876. i can get 30% off that price on rebate then it whould be $3,413.235 also, why whould tech go with mortex 5 ton a-coil and 3.5 heat pump. thanks for help.
Hi Craig .I am an air conditioning installer here in Texas .Could you translate your videos into Spanish that I can understand better. As I also have many friends of mine who do not understand English well but would love to learn from you.I consider it the best teacher and I would like you could HELP US .I say this on behalf of many who ,like me ,would love to be able to improve ourselves in this profession, thank very much.
This is impossible to translate lol
Please Tell me how the defrost work while the unit in heat pump mode
Great video. Can you talk about how to check if the ambient temperature sensor or the coil temperature sensor have failed?
Thanks!
That would be a good idea to do more on the defrost board and sensors, thanks!
Show Trane XL20i control circuit
it's crazy how many people don't even know what hvac-r is. they're missing out!
My heat strips come on but not my heat pump. The ac comes on fine. What do you guys think?
PLEASE HELP I have a heat pump that was sucking down at the outdoor txv and I replaced it. It still won't heat. What could it be?? It comes on for about 4 min then shuts off. Brand new
You do a Great job.You have a Great book also 😜
Thank you so much Phillip!
Do you have any videos on bearings , bearing lubrication systems. Different types of drive systems and belt and pulley alignment?
Damn that was good
You have great videos. Have you ever seen any problems with interference mounting Mitsubishi indoor units within 3 feet of a TV?
Hey Craig, was wondering if you could do a video on mismatched indoor and out door coils and efficiency. Maybe you could explain how pressures and superheat may change. Thanks!!
Lol yea seen a few like that myself, always takes you by surprise when you first gauge up on something like rhat
DO you ever do comparisons? for instance with Trane and Mitsubishi heat pumps.
I don’t work on many heat pumps. Do you use the true suction when reversing valve is engaged or in normal position. Thanks
Hello, Do you know just by any chance what the DT is looking to get in defrost mode. Can you talk a bit about that if you can. Thanks
So low refrigerant will trip the breaker...
Good job buty
do you have a book explaining all of this?
So this gives your house ac and heat????
on 1:28, you mention that front seating the valve will connect the 2 pipes. Shouldn't front seating those service valves close the line?
It will close the tubes but the port will still be connected to the tube heading to the indoor unit, thanks!
thanks a lot for this great video , i want to ask you what is the function of the indoor unit coil temperature sensor in a mini split ductless A/C ?
It’s function is to sense temperature 🤒
Do you get monoblock heat pumps over there?
I hate to ask this on this video but do you have any videos on troubleshooting dehumidifiers? I got one that trips the breaker on starup and you have such good info and troubleshooting videos so i had to ask. As always thank you for all the knowledge you share and great videos. Thank you sir.
Check the compressor first. De-wire it and see if it still trips
@@Froggability Thanks man ill def try that.
A dehumidifier is just an AC optimized to condense moisture out of the air as it flows over the evaporator, generally by reduced airflow so the air has more contact time. So just look at videos on finding shorts in AC systems, they'll still apply.
@@jkbrown5496 Thank you much for your reply and time

wished you would have hooked the thermostat wires up to the unit cause you said simple but not all are the same
Derrick look up "acservicetech heat pump thermostat" we have wiring diagrams and other wired up videos on the subject to help, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel yeah but what I've seen isnt what I'm looking for per say my unit has yellow red purple blue and black common sense tells me hook the same color to same color well I got three more colors that have to go somewhere Idk if two wires go to one or what or maybe they not used at all
When the heat pump is in to heat mode, what should we read on our gauges low and high pressure?
most units have heat pump readout charts on the covers
Are these unit only located in the north. I’m in Texas I don’t think I seen these
This is a Trane American Standard heat pump. They would be installed across the US. We have less of them in the far north, thanks!
@@acservicetechchannel okay I’m still a new tech thank you for the information
Great video. But I'm saddened at how immensely complex these systems have becoming in recent years. They used to be so simple and easy to purchase and swap out parts. Now their complexity makes it harder and harder for DIY servicing. With so many intricate little parts and subsystems, there is a far greater chance of something going wrong, which means a far higher chance of having to maintain a yearly budget for calling out an AC repair person to "service" a unit that is supposed to last at least 10-15 years (20 if well maintained). In Florida, I may turn on my heat briefly *maybe* twice a year, if that. Why would someone want all this complexity with so many parts that could fail when they could instead have a simple electric coil furnace for that couple of days when its needed. The so-called "energy efficiency" argument is meaningless when it is almost never used, and electricity usage would never be enough to outweigh the additional cost of an unused heat pump system.
A good argument for mostly warm climates. In that case, I agree. I would just do a straight A/C system without the heat pump, and use electric (or gas) for occasional heat use. Disclaimer, I do multi-unit maintenance. I'm not an HVAC guy.
I agree with your argument, however it’s not that hard to learn. I am not hvac tech but like hvac as a hobby, this indeed takes time to learn, but once you spend maybe 4 years diy it yourself, it becomes a lot easier. In Florida yes don’t make sense just grab ceramic heater for sure.
what is needed is inverter Outdoor Heat Pump Electrical Components Walkthrough! What They All Do
Watch this vid: ruclips.net/video/ATk1fx_N_qc/видео.html
this it not an inverter heat pump, an inverter is way more complicated then this system in this video,@@acservicetechchannel
Do you have a book on refrigeration or commercial troubleshooting?
At this point, I do not, thanks!

Thanks, you too!

Could you please tell what is the minimum safe ambient temperature to turn on air conditioner. Is cool temperature going to do any damage to the compressor or it's a myth? Thanks. (Not heat pump)
In what areas are these most common?
Here in Phoenix, I've never seen anything but heat pumps, and I was in construction for more than 30 years. Heat strips are commonplace, but there's little use for anything but a heat pump in the great southwestern states.
