  • In this video, I demonstrate how to use Meta's open source Animated Drawings repository to animate a hand-drawn image. I start by cloning the Animated Drawings repo and then setting it up using Docker. Once Docker is running, I place my hand-drawn image of a cat in the drawings folder.
Then I run a Python command to generate the animation, pointing it at my cat drawing. The output is a folder containing config files, a joint overlay showing the animation rig, a mask determining the character area, a texture PNG, and the final animated video of the dancing cat!
This tech from Meta allows you to animate a hand-drawn character with just a few commands. You can get much more complex with creating your own animation files, but this shows the basic workflow. Thanks to Meta for releasing this as open source!
