Seriously hope sony learns something from this...
Especially if astro bot does really well then it really rubs in how much they really need more single player games.
Yeah, fo real
Worst than ET that was buried in dirt 😂
Ain't no way it even sold 25,000. Again ONLY 700 players max on Steam, if that's half the playerbase then you're looking at a lot closer to 1400. Sony coping HARD. You can't even find matches to play in the game I've heard, and it supposedly has crossplay-- ain't no WAY they sold 25k copies!
Sony killed JapanStudio for this. They banked on having a poor man's Overwatch 8 years late instead of Bloodborne remaster...I wonder which would've sold more units...
Sony wants a live service so bad 🫠 then how about bringing back twisted metal? How about playstation all stars but not done poorly? So many great old IPs on rocks so we can be spoon fed new DEI turd games 😂
They could've released a Bloodborne mini figure for $40 and sold more units.
@@BTRshow Twisted Metal could've been a perfect battle royale. I miss playing this game.
@@garjian0Bro, I am frothing at the mouth waiting for Bandai to release the 30mm Armored Core 6 sets. Bloodborne physical merch would definitely sell like mad.
They killed Helldivers to inflate their Playstation Network account numbers. I feel like Concord's flop is karmic justice for their recent actions.
The character designs aren't even generic, they look terrible.
I saw multiple fluff pieces prerelease about how great these character designs are and it baffled me.
Nobody ever agreed. These designs are boring at best, repulsive and uncanny at worst.
The reason it failed is simple: I looked at the game, saw nothing I liked, and moved on. I don't doubt that was the same for most people. These designs are poison.
They look like cleaning ladies that dismantle a basements lau dry machine
When I saw the character designs it made me gag. I can’t believe I’m saying this but they have to look at designs from Gacha games if they want to know what people want.
that's what i'm saying. the characters aren't boring or generic, they're actively repulsive. the entire look is the exact opposite of good design. yongyea is misrepresenting the attitude towards concord
These characters look like they ASPIRE to be generic.
Aint no way they sold 25k units.
Sony fanboys probably
That's crazy considering the peak player count of just under 700. Guess they just bought the game and then didn't play it.
I would assume it's across all available platforms. But yeah, I agree, 25k units sold seems impossible even in that scenario.
It is normal for companies to lie about sales and reviews.
They just pay for their own sales and reviews.

This is honestly crazy. I think this is the first time I've seen the gaming community wholly reject an AAA game. Even games like Suicide Squad and Redfall still broke 5k concurrent on release. Granted, both dropped off heavily after their release.
There were some curiosities in these games. What is there to be curious about Concord? It's literally everything we have seen before but inferior.
Well those two at least had good concepts. Who wouldn't want to play as a vampire hunter or a iconic Batman villain. The vampires just weren't fun to hunt, and you could only play as the lame versions of batman villains.
It’s hard to be interested in a game when all the characters are so ugly.
AAA game, that's funny
Dude even skull and bones is managing to stay alive
Concord looks like the kind of imaginary games they create to have playing in the background of tv shows or movies. So glad I skipped this one.

It does radiant that "made up for a Nickelodeon movie"-energy I haven't seen in a while.
I heard a few say Concord looked like a game created by a algorithm that took the last 5years or so game analyse data (sucsesfull games) and wrote a game following the output.

Actually restores my faith in humanity that gamers are rejecting this garbage.
Watching this makes me wonder how well AC shadows is gonna do.
The pendulum always swings back
It’s heartwarming
They didn’t reject Helldivers 2.

Love how you tried to avoid pointing out how unappealing the character design is. They are ugly to look at.
Pretty sure he avoided it because he'd get even more people being bigots in the comments rather than reasonable discussions about how the studio dropped the ball on the character designs.
Plus, it wouldn't have helped much compared to all the other issues. I could maybe see them breaking 1,000 peak concurrent players with better character designs, but if the people who paid for it didn't want to play it anymore, that's that. This isn't one of those really cheap gacha games with extremely minimal strategy. There's actual gameplay here.
What you expect from Yongyea. Always assuming the moral highground, just like those journalists. 😂
@teykengwei true. Always playing it safe.
He’s got a very comfortable seat on a nice tall fence.
It's one of the reasons I stopped watching him ages ago, just got this recommended.
He's always scared to be any type of "controversial" as is typical for anyone "apolitical" so they come out as very boring and not genuine. I know he's always been for the gamer, unlike mainstream journalists, but he's way too safe.
People are sick of mediocre games and it makes me so happy

Black Myth Wukong is blowing up while concord flops.
Literally within the same week.
@@Optuhmist To be fair Wukong had a cheat code, aka being incredibly popular in China. Though I'm sure even if you released Golum next to Concord, Golum would've gotten more sales in the first week.
Same DAY.. not same Week.

Don't forget the fact that the game is not available in a lot of countries due to Sony's restrictions after the Helldivers 2 fiasco.
Consider them the lucky ones this time.

Seriously.
The most expressionless monotone "oh no" in history 😂

Optically it's still bad. Just don't buy into the pot-stirring hype from certain RUclipsrs, they exaggerate almost everything.
Meanwhile, Wukong is selling so well that it’s resulted in a spike in console scalping. I don’t ever wanna hear shit about single player games being dead ever again.
The only people saying that are AAA game publishers and they're saying it because it's a narrative that benefits them. So don't expect it to stop any time... ever.

@@AlanSmithee-r3tWhen the big publishers start collapsing, they will see the truth, but by then there will be others sitting on their former thrones, and they'll be reduced to shadows of their former selves. It happened to Atari last century, and to Commodore and many others.

Here's a thought, AAA devs...
STOP shoving "Live Service Gargage" down our throats! How many MILLIONS must you lose before you stop!?
Executives. Not devs. I'm sure there's some dumb developers out there, but they don't drive this trainwreck. A lot of these under baked games in over saturated markets are executives who've done research into what's popular and want to recreate it, for the smallest investment of course
Live service garage lol
Thing is they might be losing millions with every failed live service game, but they are making billions with the ones that stick so no, they won't stop. Also yeah, it's the execs that are making the decision to make everything live service.
@@magicball3201 I've been saying this a lot lately, people are using "devs" as a catch all term. They are essentially rank and file employees doing a job just like the majority of gamers.
What do you mean by "shoving "Live Service Gargage" down our throats"?
They are not, you are the one inflicting that to yourself if you are thinking that, there are hundreds of amazing and addictive games to play, just ignore the bad ones and do not trust any hype. Let those failed "AAA" games rot.
Why do we wish this hadn’t happened? I’m happy it happened. Sony needs to wake the fuck up and quit pulling these anti consumer out of touch decisions. Concord having a price tag and requiring PSN is laughably stupid. 100% free to play. They probably would have already made more money and people would have been a lot more receptive.
Nah, not really. Whether free to play or not, this would have completely flopped.
this game probably cost tens of millions, and they were probably at the point where they already announced the 40 dollar price point and felt it would be a bad look if they made it free to play, because they also didn’t have a catalogue of unique skin designs and battle pass to give players a reason to spend money on it, and now if they’re to make it free to play they’ll probably need to refund all the units sold so they basically wouldn’t make a single dollar from this game.
It's the wasted potential. Like it or not people's blood sweat and tears when into making this and likely due to poor direction and executive oversight the potential was wasted. It is NEVER a good thing when creative potential goes to waste. I feel for the devs, but hate the guys in suits.

Sony has sort of backed themselves into a corner with their exclusives. The quality is incredible but the production costs are too high and profits are getting slimmer. That’s why they’ve gone down the live service route but it’s just not working. It would be great if Sony could take a step back and focus on smaller single-player games and reset expectations. Not every game needs to be a $100 million blockbuster
IMO, with the quick deaths of Redfall, Kill the Justice League, and Concord, combined with the insane fan backlash situation with Helldivers 2 and the incredibly high sales of Wukong, I am much more optimistic for the future of gaming. The fans are speaking loudly, and they’re putting their money where their mouth is. Slop will still be peddled, but those studios are being confronted with the consequences of their own incompetency, finally.
They didn't move away from them, they just doing live services in addition to those live games.
"Didn't do anything bad" except player design. I'm not talking about the DEI scapegoat people are using. I'm talking about color schemes, blandness, lack of design based on character ability, etc. It looks like they just took a bunch of random colors and costume pieces and mashed them together
The thing is that all of that can be traced back to the DEI, those people are activists at best, con artists at worst. Either way they know nothing about making good games, their track record speaks for itself
25k units sold sounds like a gross exaggeration for Concord. They’re giving it too much credit
Thats very true. Kinda like these losers with nice clothes and maybe the basic fluck boi haircut thinking what they say and do matters in any sense
The characters are just awful. How nobody in 6+ years never questioned how bad they were is just crazy. It's more mind-blowing Sony said "yeah we love it, we'll buy your studio and give you bigger budget for it"
If only they were awful! Awful is a personality trait at least.
There's not a single one of those characters who make me perk up and say "Hey, I wonder what that person's deal is."
Hideo Kojima came with death stranding 2 and Sony denied it 😂 Kojima had to essentially remake the story of DS2 all over. After the re-write, sony finally green lit DS2 😂 remember that when you see the absolutely garbage can known as "concord" that sony green lit immediately.
"nobody" Believe me buddy, EVERYONE who plays games like you, and works at those big gaming companies, DOES KNOW how crappy some of these games are well before they are out, and sometimes even do get to provide feedback. However, it's the people in charge that completely blow at making games. They overpromise, and have bad taste. Don't act like the entire company is stupid.
Oh im pretty sure not all of the artists were very happy working on the characters and had to just do what the art director said, same could be said to other departments not liking the art style, but zero could be said because it is still up by the art director
They didn't make this game for people who play game they made it for people who don't play games and complain about gamers.
Nobody wanted this game.. I'm genuinely surprised they sold 25k units. Did they include the free review copies with that?
Im curious on if there was a bunch of refunds if it required a psn account. 25k sales but 24.4k refunds on steam.
Seriously. This must have been some executives' pet project or their kid was running it or something. There's no way any rational businessman with money on the mind wouldn't pull the plug after the first teasers. Yeah, there is some obvious wokeness, but most people saw the adverts and were just like, "Okay, but why though?" because this game didn't need to exist. There was zero demand for a less charming version of Overwatch.
BTW, Kunitsu-gami: Path of the goddess, a Capcom game that was marketed very little, sold over 500,000 units
Sometimes it's better to be quiet and good than loud and bad. People will admire the good one, even if it's under the radar. That's how cult followings are made.
It is a fantastic looking game though I'd say it deserves much more sales, but half a million copies in two months is also really good for a niche game like it.
I ignored that the moment it came up into the discovery queue on grounds of being ugly.
But I guess that just makes it an even better comparison towards Concorde since neither can get any sales from attractive characters.

the fact that Concord hit such low numbers shows is not a matter of "saturation" of market only, just look at Deadlock, it had 0 marketing, is not even officially announced and just by mouth to mouth marketing they managed to hit 100k players only on steam, the problem is that Concord tries 0 things to differentiate itself from overwatch and looks really generic, Japan Studio DIED FOR THIS, and is something I will never forgive sony for doing it. I did the math so others dont have to, but based on the actual peaks it's substantially lower.

Likewise, it is highly likely that the peaks are returning players making the figure even lower.
If we assume a 10% margin of error where people bought the game but didnt play and all the peaks since release are new players they barely break 3k.
It didn't. Bad estimate. PS5 has a trophy with a 98% completion rate that only 1,200 people got and Steam concurrent players didn't even hit 700.

Fun fact: Around 1.6 million copies of Atari VCS ET were sold. Just for perspective.
honestly, I think even those numbers may be inflated. 10,000 units sold on steam, yet there's never been more than 697 concurrent players? I don't buy that narrative. I would assume they actually sold less than 1000 units on steam, and that they *gave away* hundreds more codes for the game to "journalists" and their own employees. even the open beta (which was free for anyone to play) only had about 1500 people. their concurrent player count would be much higher if they actually sold 10,000 units on steam. I also don't buy that queue wait times in game are up to 8 minutes long, and you're matched with the same few players repeatedly, even with cross play enabled, while they claim they sold 15000 units on Playstation and 25000 total. that number is way too high and does not reflect reality. based on my experience in the open beta that had way more players than the launch, there's no way they have actually sold more than 4000 units total, and I'm being very generous with even that number. they also gave away tons of codes for this game which will inflate player counts as long as this game continues to be propped up by the media, so let's not forget that either.
well.. steam numbers are pretty accurate you have to remember how people buy and play, they may buy but are unable to play it immediately waiting a week or so. Also some people may have played an hour or two at most and refunded others are probably picking it up to see how bad it really is.
The idea that it sold 25k units but having so low concurrent players just doesn't add up. It's either lying the numbers, the supposedly audience that bought it aren't gamers, or they were giving away copies no one wanted. XD But hearing those threads, it proved further how DOA this game really was.
I haven't ever launched like 90% of the games I've bought. Surely I'm not the only one who buys but never plays the games.

I dont believe anything IGN says. 25k? Sure, sure!
Ikr. Like are we seriously trusting IGNs reporting as a credible source for news now?
They did a crap job estimating. You can see trophies on PS5 and the highest completion rate one is at 98% with 1,200 people lol. Under 700 concurrent players on Steam.
25k sounds like a massive reach lol
That 25,000 is way over hyped. On Playstation trophy statistics are public, the Trophy for getting your first kill, easiest to get) reports 1220 players with the trophy and just over 96% of the players have it, meaning there are 1258 total playstation players. Queue times are upwards of 8 minutes to get into a game.
One thing I’d like to add is that in Overwatch, hero design is directly related to their most memorable and impactful abilities. Reinhardt constantly holds his hammer, which makes it so almost nobody ever forgets his ultimate, Earthshatter, not only because it’s extremely cool but because the hero design constantly reminds people of what the hero does. You see Genji with the sword on his back, everyone is reminded of his ultimate. Same for McCree (Cassidy), Winston, Mercy, Mei… so not only the design immediately tells you what their role is, it also immediately reminds a new player of what the hero does. “Oh yeah, Mei, the ice girl. I remember perfectly that she makes the wall and can freeze everyone and stun them.” A player only has to go through this a couple times and they’ll always remember when they see Mei what her abilities are.
This is a great lesson for Sony to learn. We don’t want Sony live service games, we want top tier single player story driven games. That’s what makes Sony good

@@USSAnimeNCC- You're acting like corporations don't value their ESG score, so look it up if you don't know what it is. a higher ESG score helps secure better loans, which are vital for AAA games. Culture war issues in most AAA games ARE the result of corporate greed, and in some cases, that also leads to worse treatment of devs by DEI consultants undermining their creative freedom, as if it weren't already undermined enough by corporate heads making ill informed demands of the devs. Long story short, the corporations want the people to view each other as enemies so that they don't come together to demand change, and both sides are taking the bait.

Here’s hoping this will halt Sony’s obsession with live service games so they can double down on single player IPs, which have been wildly successful for recent entries.
Its a game no one asked for and no one wanted. On top of that, gamers just do not care. The industry needs to learn from failures like these and learn from them and dont be idiots and just repeat them again. There is no reason to feel depressed about this as everything has been self-inflicted and they deserve their fate, likely layoffs and potential closure.

Sony can waste time and money to release concord but not games fans want?? Where's bloodborne remastered? It's not that hard sony!!
Fr but at this point im sure bloodborne is being held for ps6 release. Im probably coping
Remember, if you make a game that no one asked for, a game that is trend chasing an 8 year old game, a game with 'heros' that look like low level NPCs, with underwhelming gameplay and a disconnected story line, with aggressively defensive devs, maybe it's better to just not release that game.
For me, the biggest turn off is the character design.
They're just not attractive. They look randomly generated. The colours clash.
Look at 'Overwatch' as an example of how to design appealing characters. Carefully planned colour schemes, coherent themes (Spider, Samurai, Cowboy, Angel).
'Fortnite' is another example of appealing character design.
And of course games like Genshin Impact and Black Desert benefit greatly from anime cuteness or sex appeal. Never underestimate the power of sex appeal. I've bought highly over-rated games like 'Lollipop Chainsaw' and 'Bayonetta' for that reason alone.
Not gonna lie, I think it’s actually good seeing live services like this one failing.
But will they learn anything from it though? 🤔
I agree but they will never learn. The higher ups will still waant to focus on live service shovelware cuz it's way easier to monetize the shit out of it. If one fails then make another one, id that also fails then investors leave and new one come and the live service shovelware cycle repeats.

Putting an LGBTQ+ and Politics tag on this game in Steam at launch was a horrible idea. It's a shooter, not a SIMs game. There are likely parents and other people out there who saw this tag and were immediately turned off.
One, what parent knowingly buying their kid any violent game on Steam would even bother to check the age rating, let alone the tags? Two, unless things changed over the course of a week, LGBTQ+ is not a tag on the game (and neither is the Politics tag, but that was obvious to both of us from the start).
@@georgeandrews1394 If you did a second of research, you would find that those tags were there on launch but were removed. Parents I know absolutely do check out the games they are buying for their kids, and while they might have no problem with a team shooter, they would have a problem with a game with tags that could easily be misconstrued. I know my son plays games like Fortnite, but I don't need my kid, at a young age, being subjected to possibly mature sexual content (as such a tag would imply).
@@kohl1999 Mate, I know you're lying about having kids. No parent I know who gives a shit about what their kids play would even let their kid _touch_ a video game unless it was Minecraft or something from Nintendo. Some of them would be hesitant to let their kid play Splatoon, of all games.
Also, stop lying about the developers adding the Politics tag; makes you look even stupider. I checked to see if the LGBTQ+ tag was originally on there (thanks for not being helpful with that), and apparently that one wasn't even added by the developers but by people submitting the tags. And the Politics tag was added that way too (which, to be fair, I should have assumed people would do that).
The politics tag is only there because nonwhite characters are in the game.
@@kohl1999 Looks like RUclips ate my comment. Anyways:
One, in my experience, no parent I know who is buying games for their kids and cares about what they're kid is playing would buy their kid a shooter. Except maybe Splatoon. Two, did some Googling about the LGBTQ+ tag. Turns out the LGBTQ+ tag was added by Steam users. These tags can, as we both know, be added by Steam users prior to launch and without purchasing the game. And Steam users also added the Politics tag (I really shouldn have expected that).
So you lied when you implied that the developers added the tags. Which was obvious regarding the Politics tag. You'd have to be a very weird person to lie about that.

@@strider7198 That's not what they're saying. They're correcting the misconception that everyone who bought the game is going to be playing on launch day at the same time. You have timezones, work schedules, other obligations, different download speeds, and the fact that, with all of that, some people may have started playing and quit well before other people could hop on. There's also the fact that the game is also on Playstation, and so we don't know how many people were playing it on there. And finally, the game's deluxe edition pre-released on August 20th, which would have further divided the playerbase (the peak is from release day; not sure if SteamDB was even counting before that point).
