Hey Sundas I hope you're doing alright. I wanted to refer to the point that you brought up "You don't need to become a data analyst before becoming a data scientist". I know we don't necessarily NEED TO become a data analyst to become a data scientist but since the marathon for the junior data scientist job is much more competitive; and there are much less number of entry-level data scientist jobs as compared to data analytics, isn't data analyst a good entry level job to get into the data science world?
I would love to hear your remarks on this take. :))

Sundas, the good thing about your vids is the sense of detecting “fooling yourself tendencies”- i loved the last part about tutorials trap. Your vids are so much compatible with the way everyone starts to compliment himself of fooling himself into figuring it all, seriously a big thank you. I haven’t yet watched a lot of your vids about Data science/ analysis career path but I hope to get to know about road maps from you.

    Mistakes
    1) starting with coding
    2) becoming a data analyst before data scientist
    3) believe that data scientist as a job title is the only available role in the field
    4) moving backward without a roadmap
    5) searching for jobs before practicing
    6) avoiding generative AI
    7) moving beyond regression
    8) Math is important but not really
    9) falling into tutorial trap (watching courses without applying on projects and practicing)

Thanks for sharing. I have a strong background in applied math, statistics and theoretical physics so that I had with me from start and built with lots of machince learning and deep learning. For that reason I might be biased towards learning to code. But I think that maybe you might need to know both skills at the start and build in parallel. For instance if you know computer science it might help you to desing algorithms when it comes to computing space and time. One nice thing with coding is that you can test machine learning algorithms from start and see the messiness of working with data. Tank you!

Being a data scientist myself, I can see the traditional role evolving the last year. And what I say depends a lot on the company you work for too. You need to have in depth knowledge in ML and maths (and it’s not just statistics, which is still top priority, but also linear algebra, a bit of geometry etc) and unfortunately you still need to do a lot of coding. Being a good programmer gives you super power to learn and implement anything old and new in ML with greater ease. Now, if you’re into a research role, you might just need to code experiments. And things might be different in a big company vs a start up. But I think the trend right now is having in depth knowledge in ML/maths along with really good coding skills.

I am diving in learning data science because i want to be an academic in the genetics field. I initially intended to do only wet work in a lab but the more i delve into data science the more i want to have this knowledge so i have more plasticity in my career. Unfortunately im coming from a 100% biology/chemistry background and zero informatics so its being tough, i hope i can be decent at it after a few years.

    • @parissisthem
      @parissisthem 4 месяца назад

I’m doing the exact same thing. I studied biology and did my masters in biotechnology, no coding involved in those two, but I choose a master thesis which was very bioinformatics heavy. I now work as a bioinformatician for two years and now am trying to build a roadmap to learning data science so I can up my analyses I already work on. So if you are new in the field try doing some basic tutorials on NGS data to see if you like it and then look into some heavier data science stuff.

    There's lot of theory...and when I say a lot I mean A LOT.
In my country we're very used to study a lot of theory in any university field (and the issue is that it is usually too little practice) but in the case of D.Science it's very useful.
Too many people on YT treat D.Science just like it's all about running some ML algorithms using R or Python...
As a car mechanic knows how to use many tools, knowing many tools doesn't make you a mechanic 😉
The "Tutorial" chapter made me thing that in any subfield of D.Science there's smooth activities and difficult ones: tutorial are usually about "how to" concerning coding....but, you know what's one of the most time-wasting activity you have to be used to while coding (for anything) debugging, debugging, debugging and debugging. As designing algorithms (of any kind) can be challenging, you don't how much time you could waste if you lack the right mindset and calm to be used to "apparently ununderstandable" reasons that stop your projects.

randomly this video popped in my recommendation list. I got my first job through a DS course I did. What nobody tells anybody is a core DS role in any huge scale org is not a dev job but more on the operations vertical in any MNC. I studied DS and ended working as a Splunk Admin and dev for 5 years and now working as a SSE for dynatrace on the observability domain. DS is just an umbrella term and there are so many job roles and responsibilities that you'll end up working as something else in the long run and that somehow worked for me as well lol...

After watching so many roadmap videos, I found yours explaining the core skills required. Python wasn't one of my subjects, and I didn't have anyone to guide me in learning coding languages apart from my syllabus. I am going to pursue my master's degree abroad; the class starts in the month of July. I am still lacking confidence in what to learn. Will I be able to stand out in the crowd? I request experts as well as the creator to help me learn the appropriate skills that are required to be learned before the class starts so that I can cope and also learn and be confident. @@chiragprajapathi3442 If you are very sure that you want to work in data science field roles then take BSc Statistics and then do a master's in data science. (again, it depends on the curriculum) . If your course covers all aspects of data sci then please go for it else if it has a strong emphasis on stats only then do a master's degree in data science or any course that would cover them all, work on projects, and build a strong profile.

Hello Mam, I hope you are doing good! I need your guidance in choosing my career. Actually, I am an international student at Deakin University Melbourne Australia. I am doing a bachelor of computer science here majoring in data science. I don't have a previous maths background as I did my 11th and 12th in Commerce. So I wanted to that what kind of maths is required to become or step into the field of data science. I am following your RUclips channel and you posted the video for the same topic. But then I also I am bit confused. So can you please guide me with this.

...I hope you do respond to career questions: I am currently in Graphic Design. But I would like to implement ML in Graphic design. Especially on repetitive tasks. I nave a hunch ML can be implemented in Graphic Design. Your advice is greatly sought. And yes, I have watched a lot of videos too. And I am just not sure which course to pay for.

Hey! I am thinking about getting into this field as I enjoy learning. But the problem is, that I want to secure a job that won't "demand" continuous learning at a higher rate. Will it be a bad decision for me to get into the data field?

Thanks of this valueable video! But number 8 mistake is missing - so edit the title 10 to 9 as numerical correct ;)

I generally follow a roadmap on a project leveraging generative ai. I dont want the whole project to be done of course but I mostly use its codes while the funcitonality of the project is set on my brain and only I know the steps. do you think this is harmful?
