Just wanted to let you know that when you are in Mission Control you can switch between spaces or fullscreen apps by using multitouch (i use three finger swipe). Also you don’t need to hold down the “Option” key to drag items in Mission Control, just drag the individual item or the icon for groups of items. Hope this helps.
Great video. I have seen severa(a lot) of other video tutorials on the basis of Lion, and you have been the most useful. New tips I never heard from this point. Keep it Up!! Go SKB!
I actually think that reverse scrolling makes sense with a trackpad. The content moves in the direction of the swipe. Swipe up, content moves up. It takes a bit of getting used to with scrolling, but when using launchpad and spaces, the "reverse" swiping feels more natural.
Umm... that feature that shows quote on quote "least amount of useful information" is a life saver for anyone taking a foreign language in school. AMAZING!
Thanks for these tips, I'm getting one of the new Mac Mini's with Lion pre installed and I've only really used Snow Leopard and Leopard, so this is very helpful (the status bar, scrolling etc) thank you, Soldier!
Dear SoldierKnowsBest, What programs do you use to film/edit your videos? Your tutorials have really good quality and content! Thanks, A fellow RUclipsr
It's not to late if you already have installed Lion 1. go to mac app store and hold the option key and click on purchases 2. click install on lion, and wait for the download 3. it will put it in your applications folder like before and then follow what soldier showed and you're done.
SKB, at 3:30 you mentioned that you can hold down the Option key to see a sort of preview of the desktop before committing, just wanted to mention that you can also use three (or four depending on your settings) fingers swiping left and right to do the same thing.
I got used to the scrolling and love it. And I just found out my PC friend was using the Natural Scrolling method forever. So I guess people preferred it before Lion. One other tip on Lion is that it auto corrects your spelling in Safari...like this comment.
To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion, press and hold the Option key while you click the Purchases tab. If the button to the right of the Install Mac OS X Lion item doesn't change to "Install" and allow you to download Lion, use Spotlight to search for "Install Mac OS X Lion" on your computer. I had to do this myself. It works. AND I got the info from Apple's website. :-)
@SoldierKnowsBest to redownload Lion you can go to the Mac App Store, and click on the Purchased tab while pressing Option. So The Install button should show up again. It worked for me on my second try.
very cool. enjoyed and learned. i will view your channel for sure in the future. i'm going to go find the LION video you referred to this video. excellent.
You can redownload the installer by going to the Mac App Store, hold down Option (Alt), and click "Purchased". You'll then be able to download the file again from the list. This works even in Lion. I'm not sure how this works for those who got their Mac with it already installed, but if you have an Apple ID it should in theory still let you do this as it'll work out you have Lion already.
You can also change the new dashboard setting from having it's own space back to how it was on leopard via system preferences>mission control>show dashboard as a space (unbox)
For people with MacBooks (these don't work with gestures) you go into system preferences and then to mouse and deselect the first box. This would allow for the normal functionality of the scroll as we are use to it from snow leopard.
I read somewhere that if not next month then by September Apple will indeed release Lion on a disc to purchase. Only caveat is it'll cost about $70, which is slightly more than what those of us with Leopard would have to pay to for the double Snow Leopard-to-Lion upgrade. And for those who don't want to do the double upgrade, do what I did and buy it on a friend's computer and save it to a disc or USB.
@SoldierKnowsBest When you are in Mission Control and you want to change desktops, rather than holding the option key and clicking you can also 3 finger swipe left or right. I found this easier and quick.
You can re-download lion again after installation by holding alt-key (option key ) while clicking "purchased" and the the install button will show again. This works with all your purchased apps.
Love your video learned a lot and i use accent letters because i speak and write spanish totally love to know its so much easier to write!!!! THANXSSSS!!
Surprisingly the accent letter would be a huge use to me as I take French in school and typing them on Windows you have to press CTR + Shift then a special number code so the character appears.
@BusterRates yeah if you close your laptop, or put it to sleep if you have a desktop, it will show your desktop picture when you wake it up, but if you leave your computer unattended until the screen saver comes on, it will show your screen saver once you wake it up.
With the installation on the other macs that you own, you could take your self-created Lion install disk, boot into snow leopard and install Lion from there. This will save you bandwidth and it will also save you time. This is recommended for those of you who don't have a fast enough internet connection for the download.
@amoghthegamer Trackpad: Swipe up with three fingers or pinch with three fingers and a thumb (iforget) Magic mouse: Double tap on surface of mouse Other non-Apple mouse: i don"t own one of those, sorry ._. hope this helps :3
lion has got inbuilt recovery.. hold option R while startup which will take you to the recovery section where you can back up from time machine, re-install lion, apple online help if u want to re-download lion and disk utility for repair and erasing disk
You don't need a Lion Restore disk! If you hold the option key when your mac boots up there should be 2 HDDs that appear, you regular computer HDD and Recovery HD. Click on Recovery HD to restore ur mac :D
i heard reverse scrolling was gonna be on it so i downloaded an app called reverse scrolling so ive been using it for about a month now, it feels so much more smoooooooth.
instead of creating a restore cd you could just hold command r at startup and it will run the restore off the hard drive and if your drive doesn't have the restore on it because it is formatted then it will use the internet to resort
It'd be really cool if they actually had a lock screen for Mac OS X. So there's a certain key or gesture to lock it, then, in order to unlock it, you come up with a certain gesture. You then have to do the gesture on the trackpad on the lock screen to unlock it, of course. Without the gesture, you can't unlock and explore your computer. I think that'd be cool.
to re-download lion, once installed, from the app store, you press option and then install, It'll re-download and you can complete the process easier, quicker and legally
That View > Status Bar tip was a game changer for me! I found that annoying too, thanks! Got the full "new experience" upgraded from Snow Leopard on a 2006 Core Duo (not even Core 2 Duo) White Macbook to the new i5 13 inch Air with Lion. I'm liking it but its a little buggy every now and then with the gestures and a few apps crashing.
when i type in spanish or french i need to use the correct accent marks and stuff like that. I don't consider it stupid like you said, its actually very useful for ppl that speak other languages!
WOW!! Feel like an idiot with Quick Time. Never new I could record the screen with it. I do like ScreenFlow just takes a while to learn but oh well. Thanks man. I appreciate your videos.
great video! One more question on Lion....how do I get the finder window to stay the same size every time I open it? I don't need all the windows (safari, word, etc) to be the same size, just like the finder to be consistent.
Could you please do a video on using Lion with a Magic Mouse? I want to know about how many of the new gestures work on it before I buy the new OS. Thanks
@DELHIMAFIA well first check in your apps folder to see if it's still there. if it's not, than the only way to make a recovery DVD would be to re-download it using the technique he just told us with the lion on multiple different macs.
I always find your videos very informative. You also have a very disarming manner with which you deliver information...thanks for posting!
love the pace and details - thanks. I'm pretty tech savvy, but never subscribed to a channel...you're it, man.
im liking the new scrolling when you get used to it then it feels so much more natural than before
Great video. I have seen severa(a lot) of other video tutorials on the basis of Lion, and you have been the most useful. New tips I never heard from this point. Keep it Up!! Go SKB!
ok ya kno wat, lots of ppl say that u talk too fast, but i love it. when people talk too slow i loose interest. dont change ur speed, its perfect :)
AMAZING!
Got Lion yesterday. I love it.
A lot easier to multitask than it was in Snow Leopard.
Thanks for your tips man. Just got a mac book pro and all of this is very informative and useful
Thanks for these tips, I'm getting one of the new Mac Mini's with Lion pre installed and I've only really used Snow Leopard and Leopard, so this is very helpful (the status bar, scrolling etc) thank you, Soldier!
this video rocked! learned some cool things that i was wondering how to do, but now i know. thanks soldier!!
Thank you for getting the scrolling back to normal!!

Dear SoldierKnowsBest,
What programs do you use to film/edit your videos? Your tutorials have really good quality and content!
Thanks,
A fellow RUclipsr
omg thank you!!!!!!!! i wondered so many times how i can change the scrolling up and down! you are a big saver!!!
Looking forward to this! I'm downloading it right now....I'm half way there.
thanks for the info on screen recording - i have been wanting to be able to do that for some time and now I can
NICE! Thanks - appreciate a tutorial that makes me rewind/ pause rather than taking f-o-r-e-v-e-r to get thru! :) Great tips - cheers

Lion is awesome!!! I too found out most of the tips and tricks u just showed
Handy little hints Solidier, thanks - I might get Lion after all!
I LOVE THE DOUBLE TAP DICTIONARY GESTURE - I NEED A MAC!
This soldier knows best.
the NEW scrolling method actually makes more sense then the old scrolling. I got used to it in like an hour or 2
thanks! this was very useful sincei am a newbie to MBA13
Yeah, you're the best reviewer - period! Very helpful!

That's for showing how to restore the status bar I was going crazy without that there!
@SoldierKnowsBest to redownload Lion you can go to the Mac App Store, and click on the Purchased tab while pressing Option. So The Install button should show up again. It worked for me on my second try.
For mission control, you can also swipe left and right with three fingers while in mission control. It has the same effect of using the option key.
soldier, great video!
and btw, you can just double click the emoji to use it instead of dropping it.
🐺
the vids are getting reallyy good skb. thanks.
Thanks for the accent tip. I use them all the time and I didn't know this! Thanks

ooooh! just found your channel! Excellent! Thanks for your help on Lion...I was kind of lost!
Great video soldier like usual.
i gave the scrolling a chance, and i actually enjoy it now!
You can also change the new dashboard setting from having it's own space back to how it was on leopard via system preferences>mission control>show dashboard as a space (unbox)
The reverse scrolling feels good once you give it a chance, it feel right.
Awesome stuff!! Thanks for the tips Soldier :3

First time watching your reviews, you do a great job! I'm gonna bite the bullet and download lion when I get home!
yeah, I would also like to know the software. Your video is awesome!
nice tips looking forward to my 1st ever apple pc im buying the imac 27" and will be checking tour tips
brilliant. your vids are so easy to keep up to!

When you are in mission control you can also do 4 finger left to right to get a preview of whats on the other screens.
thanks for showing the accents. i teach spanish and use them all the time. great video
that squiggly line thing will probably save me 30 mins when i type stuff for spanish class. thanks!
Very clear and quick explanations! thanks :)
@SoldierKnowsBest When you are in Mission Control and you want to change desktops, rather than holding the option key and clicking you can also 3 finger swipe left or right. I found this easier and quick.
Thanks Soldier, keep em coming ..
You can re-download lion again after installation by holding alt-key (option key
) while clicking "purchased" and the the install button will show again. This works with all your purchased apps.
Love your channel! Keep it up!
Soldier Knows Best & Soldier IS Best
Love your video learned a lot and i use accent letters because i speak and write spanish totally love to know its so much easier to write!!!! THANXSSSS!!

I agree about the scrolling thing, thanks for the tip!
Soldier, I love your reviews, you do a great job. Keep em coming!!!!

The dictionary trick has blown me away :D
Thanks for showing how to create a restore CD.
@amoghthegamer
Trackpad: Swipe up with three fingers or pinch with three fingers and a thumb (iforget)
Magic mouse: Double tap on surface of mouse
Other non-Apple mouse: i don"t own one of those, sorry ._.
hope this helps :3
I love the new scrolling!
lion has got inbuilt recovery.. hold option R while startup which will take you to the recovery section where you can back up from time machine, re-install lion, apple online help if u want to re-download lion and disk utility for repair and erasing disk
Your Videos are the best
You don't need a Lion Restore disk! If you hold the option key when your mac boots up there should be 2 HDDs that appear, you regular computer HDD and Recovery HD. Click on Recovery HD to restore ur mac :D
Thanks. Very informative.
Two thumbs up.
i heard reverse scrolling was gonna be on it so i downloaded an app called reverse scrolling so ive been using it for about a month now, it feels so much more smoooooooth.
I love your first few comments about really stupid features and the no status bar thing that got on your nerves. Hhahahha great video.
you can change the scroling by going to
settings
trackpad
scroll & zoom
and the unclick "scroll direction" :)
instead of creating a restore cd you could just hold command r at startup and it will run the restore off the hard drive and if your drive doesn't have the restore on it because it is formatted then it will use the internet to resort
You can also three finger swipe between space and desk tops in mission control instead of command clicking
It'd be really cool if they actually had a lock screen for Mac OS X. So there's a certain key or gesture to lock it, then, in order to unlock it, you come up with a certain gesture. to re-download lion, once installed, from the app store, you press option and then install, It'll re-download and you can complete the process easier, quicker and legally
You don't need redl Lion to put it on multiple comps. You just need to backup the installer onto a external hd before installing. Thats what I did.
3:20 you can do that by swiping to the left and right with 3/4 fingers; you don't need to hold option.
"The Apple way of scrolling to the human way of scrolling" that made me lol:D
That View > Status Bar tip was a game changer for me! I found that annoying too, thanks! Got the full "new experience" upgraded from Snow Leopard on a 2006 Core Duo (not even Core 2 Duo) White Macbook to the new i5 13 inch Air with Lion. I'm liking it but its a little buggy every now and then with the gestures and a few apps crashing.
I stood in line at the Apple store on the 3rd Street Promenade for Leopard. I haven't bought Lion yet.
Also, in Mission Control you can 3-finger swipe left and right to switch space previews.
cool, didn't know about the 3 fingers swipe, pretty awesome
@5dayslater Me too. It took a bit to get used to, but i like it now.
when i type in spanish or french i need to use the correct accent marks and stuff like that. I don't consider it stupid like you said, its actually very useful for ppl that speak other languages!
This vid was SO helpful!!
WOW!! Feel like an idiot with Quick Time. Never new I could record the screen with it. I do like ScreenFlow just takes a while to learn but oh well. Thanks man. I appreciate your videos.
I actually don't mind the "natural scrolling" I've become so used to using an iOS device that when I use my new MacBook it works seamlessly.
great video! One more question on Lion....how do I get the finder window to stay the same size every time I open it? I don't need all the windows (safari, word, etc) to be the same size, just like the finder to be consistent.
I didn't know you could record the screen by QuickTime. Thanks!!
I like the scrolling change! :)
