- Running from the IRS due to back taxes, Baltimore hairdresser and salon owner Peaches (Mo'Nique) reunites with her more successful sister, Angela (Kellita Smith), a fellow stylist, in Los Angeles. Angela is burdened by her sister's financial woes, and Peaches' rival, Marcella (Gina Torres), threaten s to take over the salon back in Baltimore. While Angela helps her sister get back on her feet, Peaches enters a hairstyling competition in hopes of winning a big cash prize and saving her salon.

Nah, not really. It's very dated. The soundtrack is virtually non-stop, Taraji's anti-Adian tropes are cringey, and the acting is so over the top. Not to mention the costumes and make-up. This screams early 2000s.

trust me i loved beauty shop it's a classic black film from my childhood, but this one takes the cake for being so stylish, fun, and exciting. The sub-plots were more exciting, and all the cameo's of black holywood really captures a time period i miss. This was a time where black fashion, music, culture was exclusively it's own....
