At the very least I would ask that you make such citations more clearly visible in the future.
They're not being rude at all. There's an entire fucking courtesy pastebin list in the description. And it has your credits. Go look at lines from 260 and below.
At least one of the biggest corporations in the industry just sits around, doing nothing but monitoring and supporting steam and their own games. Valve can do a lot with their position in the market but they don’t
I genuinely laughed at the fact that TF2 was barely mentioned, yes it was shown in the visual aspect but the mention of the game or even referring to it by the narrators was less then 10 times, the game really deserves more notice, especially its e-sports, trust me when i say it's under appreciated.
I have this friend who works at Discord. A couple of years ago he said Gabe Newell visited their offices. (They were about to venture into distributing games at the time.) He walked in looking like the Dude from The Big Lebowski with a flowing tropical shirt and flip flops. Their meeting wasn’t going to start for a while so while inside the meeting room he asked if anyone was using it. When they replied nothing was scheduled other than what he had he just said, “okay I am going to take a nap” and one of the richest men in the world kicked off his flip flops put them up on the meeting room table, leaned back, put on a blindfold and just napped right in their meeting room.
Steam revolutionized the gaming concept in a way USA and Europe could not even imagine. At least Im asuming that, since i've not seen it mentioned in the video. For me, being from South America, getting games was extremeley hard during pre-steam era: they were simply non existant, and if they did exist, they were extremely expensive. Let alone gaming consoles and a proper gamer PC. Piracy was the only option. Steam allowed me to finally get ALL the games of my favorite franchise (Total War games, and yes; I own everyone of them); and I am now writing this comment with my Steam Library showing my proudly owned 76 (no Fallout pun intended) game library, and more than 3000 hours on DotA 2. You made a former child happy for many years, and make an actual adult happy everyday. Thank you, forever.
i like how the idea of the people working at valve being able to move freely between projects is literal, because all the desks are on wheels with like 3 cables strapping them down anywhere so they can just unplug and wheel their desk into another room and work there. i remember the story of a previous map maker on TF2, who had a half-completed map from early on, decided years down the line to wheel their desk into the office, finish it up, and leave
i dont see why people shit on companies for doing things to make money like its literally a buisness. That does not mean they dont give a fuck about the community, i guarentee 90% of people at valve are proud of the games and are happy that the community likes them
it doesnt matter what anyone says, each game valve made changed EVERYTHING we know about videogames. EVERY SINGLE GAME is a MASTERPIECE (artifact doesnt count). it is, in my opinion, the greatest videogame company of all time.
Left 4 Dead is weird compared to other Valve games since that seems to be one of Valves least favorite games? When they show stuff of their office you don't really see L4D stuff. Also L4D was how I first learned about Valve. I didn't own the game but I played it with my friends a bit. It sort of seems weird to me that there are groups of people that for some reason seem to think that L4D was the only good game that Valve made. It's as if they have never played any of the other stuff Valve made.
This is what success by choosing to do the right thing over and over looks like. Facing your mistakes so you don't make them again. And winning. God bless our St. Gaben, for he is what prevented EA, the anti-christ of gaming, from becoming the giant that Steam/Valve is.
Let me point this out. If gabe were ever to reveal half life 3, all he would have to do is raise three fingers and the crowd would go absolutely ballistic
Valve may not have done everything right, no individual or company can, but for the most part, according to my knowledge, Valve has not functioned like a soulless corporate entity like most giant companies. They have made great games, changed the gaming industry, have contributed immensely to the world of gaming and is by far the most important and historic gaming company to exist to this day.
4:37 How did Steam flounder back then? I remember having it on my PC ever since it came out and it was never offline, except for you know, random downtimes like with any internet-based company. It was used mainly to find servers for Counter Strike 1.5 and 1.6, especially via LAN. I am trying hard to recall it ever floundering, because it was literally just that, a hub for server searches and it never tried to be anything more than that, UNTIL the full Steam we all know today was eventually released, but up until that point, Steam performed its role perfectly; everyone I knew was playing CS and using Steam.
I've been theorizing lately that if EA hadn't gone retarded on C&C, they might have taken the PC gaming market by storm. But alas, Valve succeeded through Half-Life 2 and the rest is history. Imagine EA monopolizes the whole PC gaming industry. Oh my.
Honestly, have been around since 2003 lots of people don't believe me when I say this but I have seen rise, falls, rise, been on the rises and of course have been here through the falls. Over these years I have learned a lot and valve sometimes just takes time for things to shock you. Hopefully, this time Valve can shock us with a new competitive game that I can be a professional at.

@@rotua98 The original is also great, if you don't have problem playing old games like N64 games, Half Life shouldn't be a problem.
Can i ask you what rank are you?
If it wasn’t thanks to Gaben, we wouldn’t have some of the most iconic moments in all of esports. One of the greatest games of all time with Half-Life and Portal. Thank you Valve, thank you.
Hey guys, while your use of my video/voice discussing Valve's Refund policy is Fair Use, to not so much as cite the original creator or link the original video is bad form and rather rude.
EDIT: Apparently there is a nearly invisible citation that if one actively looks for it, they will eventually see. At the very least I would ask that you make such citations more clearly visible in the future.
They're not being rude at all. There's an entire fucking courtesy pastebin list in the description. And it has your credits. Go look at lines from 260 and below.
2023: still millions of people everyday play. GOAT FPS
1:52 wears sandals....what a LEGEND
At least one of the biggest corporations in the industry just sits around, doing nothing but monitoring and supporting steam and their own games. Valve can do a lot with their position in the market but they don’t
I genuinely laughed at the fact that TF2 was barely mentioned, yes it was shown in the visual aspect but the mention of the game or even referring to it by the narrators was less then 10 times, the game really deserves more notice, especially its e-sports, trust me when i say it's under appreciated.
I’m half expecting to see a “The story of thescore esports” sometime soon
whoever made this intro, you are a incredibly beautiful human
@Sebastien Martin-Schultz what was that tune that was used in the introduction?
@Sebastien Martin-Schultz Is there something like a full song or is it made just for this? I would love to hear the whole thing. Sounds beautiful
When they replied nothing was scheduled other than what he had he just said, “okay I am going to take a nap” and one of the richest men in the world kicked off his flip flops put them up on the meeting room table, leaned back, put on a blindfold and just napped right in their meeting room.
ngl that intro made me feel like being in a movie, i love valve
i love how when you said
"havoc of ingame economy"
you showed tf2
the Intro was strangely beautiful
Close your eyes for a second. And just imagine a world without steam, a world without half-life. You gotta appreciate what valve did over the years.
“Oh, it’s you…”
I want Portal 3, even if it means having ti deal with GLaDOS again!
you mean Portal More than 2 less than 4
Yeah ;(
Steam revolutionized the gaming concept in a way USA and Europe could not even imagine.
How he took over the world and promptly forgot to count to 3
Lord can be number One, maybe a number Two…
but never, NEVER the Three.
i dont see why people shit on companies for doing things to make money like its literally a buisness.
7:09 I very much appreciate you guys including Nakey Jakey in the video; more people need to know of him!
The one game that comes to mind when I hear "Valve" is l4d
for me its half life and portal even tho i only play csgo
Left 4 Dead is weird compared to other Valve games since that seems to be one of Valves least favorite games? When they show stuff of their office you don't really see L4D stuff.
Also L4D was how I first learned about Valve. I didn't own the game but I played it with my friends a bit.
It sort of seems weird to me that there are groups of people that for some reason seem to think that L4D was the only good game that Valve made. It's as if they have never played any of the other stuff Valve made.
@@PC-tan Probably because it was mostly made by Turtle Rock Studios.
My first game was tf2, it was a fun game, people were so nice.
It's not originally made by Valve, it's Turtle Rock studios game
This is what success by choosing to do the right thing over and over looks like. Facing your mistakes so you don't make them again. And winning.
God bless our St. Gaben, for he is what prevented EA, the anti-christ of gaming, from becoming the giant that Steam/Valve is.
George Washington:“It is better to be alone than in bad company.”
Gaben:"I'm not wearing underwear" 3:28
Excellent video! A good overview of the company with a few interesting insights.
Let me point this out.
If gabe were ever to reveal half life 3, all he would have to do is raise three fingers and the crowd would go absolutely ballistic
yes, yes it would. but it would not be in our lifetimes
Valve: "dosen't update games"
Glitches and bugs: My time has come
Valve is the reason of how the game industry is today
Came back to this just to say: GABEN DID BRING SOURCE 2 TO CSGO
LMAO Summit needs to tell us how he really feels.... 0:42
man this is such a good video! The intro gave me chills!
I'm a simple man: I see nakeyjakey, i like
my boy jakey? where?!
God that thumbnail is so good
Valve may not have done everything right, no individual or company can, but for the most part, according to my knowledge, Valve has not functioned like a soulless corporate entity like most giant companies. They have made great games, changed the gaming industry, have contributed immensely to the world of gaming and is by far the most important and historic gaming company to exist to this day.
Actually wonderful video. Thanks for telling us about Valve's legacy
0:05 - 0:35
That background piano song gave more chill
any idea what it's called?
The way they used valves actual intro music for their intro was so good
4:37 How did Steam flounder back then?
9:25 missed an opportunity to say the valve had been opened
Idk why the intro gave me chills
kinda crazy to think that whoever commented before me hasn't even watched the whole video
After Finishing The Vid: Kinda cool cured my boredom for 20 mins
goes for you as well
@@keithdenzelroque2072 yep
Something about Valve games just hits different.
Screw half life 3, Im hyped for half life more than 2, Less than 4.
6:43 is the best part ever
"Valve makes games because they think that that game is going to change everything"
- *Artifact* : .....
I heard they are fixing that game and will make it free
IMO they probably did think it would change everything, but being humans like everyone else, they thought wrong.
Valve is such a great consumer friendly company. Im sure theyve had hiccups like most companies, but for the most part they know where the money is coming from and its not a shareholder but us the gamers.
Valve: " We fucked up with Artifact"
Blizzard: " hold my beer"
Warcraft 3: reforged " 0.5 score on metacritics"
That intro made me cry, so emotional
When the steam servers are down
Just day before
When rl is down
17:45 I would have never thought to see Alexjgate in a video as big as this! If by any chance you see this - you made it man!
I still want an updated version of Day of Defeat just like CS got CSGO.
Same dude.
Day of Defeat where they add the Japanese,Italians,Chinese and Russians.
People whining about bugs thinking "Valve don't care", simply don't get it.
17:47 "pretty much updates daily"
*OMEGALUL*
