    Each time i have a nice day of skiing, i feel like "today it felt good, it felt right. Maybe this time i looked like an expert while carving". Then i come back home watch my gopro recording and i still make the same mistakes while carving, nowhere near looking like an expert, kinda disappointing, but still comparing my old and more recent ones shows improvement. Its mostly thanks to your videos Tom, they provide both inspiration and guidance on becoming a better skier. Hopefully im gonna keep seeing improvements on my recordings and become an expert eventually. Thanks for the videos

      @@davidn.2555 Starting to carv is not about the skier though, if your skis have sidecuts, tip your knees and they will carve. This part is all about the skis design to be honest, you just need to trust them. Carving well on the other hand, on any slope, at any speed, with higher edge angles and a dynamic turn frequency, is incredibly difficult to master. Aspiring to become a better skier is a much stronger drive for me than being thankful for a ski design. That being said, this (/watch?v=Aq9Op1CdPZg) is my most recent recording in march 2021, watch it and you tell me, if i should be thankful or try improve upon my mistakes to become a better skier.

      So nice to hear that my videos have had such positive impact on you. Yes, taping your skiing on video is the most powerful thing you can do in order to excel as a skier. That is how all this started. Me and my brothers always taped everything on video. And everyone else laughed at us. But it we just kept doing it. Just keep on coaching yourself. Send me a video of yourself. Here or by email. Its free of charge. I could not open the video in the link you provided.
      I think David N just wanted to compliment you. Evidently he is not carving yet. Hope he finds my 3 levels of carving video and starts with chapter one. Anyone can carve using my progression.

      I apologize if i came off as aggressive there, i thought the same about david not being able to carve yet so i just tried to say that the beginning of carving is only about trusting the skiis.
      The link should work when typed after youtube.com but i have it as "unlisted" so maybe something went wrong there. This one should work ruclips.net/video/Aq9Op1CdPZg/видео.html . I usually ski alone, not by choice though, i cant find too many people to drag along side me at 6 am. So recording my self like this is not always an option. Mostly i set my gopro at my chest aimed downwards so i can check if my skis are aligned during a turn or if the edge angles are similar or not.
      In the video i can spot a few of my shortcomings, my arms are too stiff despite of constantly reminding myself to keep them relaxed and lead the turn with the outside arm but cant do it just yet. Cant pole plant yet, i dont know how to explain it properly but when i try doing it, i need to force myself and it feels unnatural but its not a priority for me. Increasing my edge angles is the most frustrating thing for me at the moment, when im carving it feels like im tipping the skis 70-80 degrees and if i force even a single degree more im gonna go down, but when i watch the recordings forget about 70-80 degrees 30 is the max i can do. My plan was to try focusing on my inside foot and push it forwards from the start of a turn, i thought that would force me to get into a position where it would be physically impossible for me stay in low edge angles, havent had a chance to try it yet though. Anyway, any constructive criticism is welcome on my end Tom. Whatever mistakes you see, tell me and ill start working on them as soon as the ski season starts. Im sure there are a lot more like me who appreciates your videos more than you think. Thanks a lot.

    @Triggerboy62 I have a question. What do you think of FIS skis compared to non-FIS(higher class "consumer") in softer spring snow? I tried recently a pair of FIS slalom ski, and I was amazed how well they hold an edge on hard packed snow, near ice. Sure, their edges were for sharper than mine, but when I switched to my ski again(Atomic Redster Doubledeck SL, 2015 model), it felt like I`m skiing thin sheets of metal :) almost no ski under me. After a couple of runs, everything was back to normal :) My point is, if I switch to FIS ski, could there be a problem with softer snow, not being able to bend them as much?
    Great channel, good instructional videos with a bit of humor here and there :) Easy to watch

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62  2 года назад +1

      Hi thanks for watching and for asking. There is a huge difference between FIS type racing skis and the consumer models. Even if the construction could be the same, FIS racing skis are much more sturdy and beefier. Not always stiffer but more rigid. I see that every time somebody brings me consumer racing skis for waxing and tuning. Heating up the skis, scraping and tuning the edges gives away the difference. Huge. But it's not only limited to the ski itself. Its the binding and the plate (binding integration). I am using a pair of Völkl 180 long R19 GS consumer racing skis for club GS races. I swapped the plate and the binding for the piston plates and the Marker Comp 20 bindings. A completely different ski. And no problem in softer snow. Only gripes is that SL skis are no longer than 165. I would like to have one version in the length of 175 R16. Maybe even a little wider one, lets say 70mm for normal skiing. But now I never have to decide what ski to ski on. Its the 165 Atomic S9 FIS SL. Cheers, Tom

      @zorroBG 2 года назад

      @@Triggerboy62 Wow, thanks for the quick and awesome answer! Didn`t know that different plates and bindings make such a difference. If I`m right, you really like the 165 Atomic S9 FIS SL :) The ones I tested were Augment WC FIS Slalom skis(formerly Croc). What I could find on the forums, is that Augment are quality made skis.
      I guess I am going for a FIS skis :))

  • @maoanz
    @maoanz 3 года назад

    how tall is the skier? I am wondering of buying a slalom ski, I am 183, is 165cm ski ok for me or too short? Normally I ski with a polyvalent ski of 179cm

    • @Banks231
      @Banks231 3 года назад

      maybe consider a recreational slalom ski at 170cm. racers have different standard

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62  3 года назад +2

      Great question maoanz. Chris is a bit shorter than you but close to 180. However, your height has less to do with the ski length than you might think. Its more about how you ski and where. For shorter SL type turns on shorter slopes the SL skis gives you more turns and a better work out. That said, when I go to the Alps I always take my SL skis and if I need something else I rent. For example wider off pist skis. However, that has barely ever happened. I ski mostly on groomed slopes and SL skis also keep my speed under control. I can safely carve down medium steep slopes and even steep ones even with lots of people. With GS skis that is not possible. Im 190 and ski with 165cm SL skis but I have also been using 155cm skis. And after using the 155s the 165s feel really long and stable. There is also another advantage when using FIS racing skis; the plate and binding. They are crucial to how the ski performs. When I was skiing on Volkls they had these great recreational off the shelf racing skis that were softer than the FIS models and the GS versions had a turn radius of under 20m witch was perfect for on piste free skiing and masters and club GS races. Only problem was the plate and binding combo. So I replaced the cheesy plastic plate and binding that came with the skis with Piston Plates and Marker Comp 20. Great skis after that. Completely different. Volkl even started to deliver those skis with according to my specs. Somebody at the marketing department had watched my videos hahahaa. Anyway, XX suggestion to go for recreational skis at 170 is not bad but I bet a true racing 165 will feel more stable, have better grip and turn tighter.

    • @maoanz
      @maoanz 3 года назад

      @@Triggerboy62 Thanks for your quick answer, if you are 190cm and you ski on 165cm, then I think 165cm is largely enough for me, and I am not planning to ski fast, the main purpose is to practice slow speed carving on the slope, because I had an accident last season, I need to to some exercises for recovering with security.

      @@Triggerboy62 " I can safely carve down medium steep slopes and even steep ones even with lots of people. With GS skis that is not possible."
      Of course it's possible. I ski my 173 Blizzard Brahmas with a 19m radius on crowded slopes every day. Bobbing and weaving safely through the crowd is no problem whatsoever. It just makes things more interesting. I can make clean 14 meter turns or shorter all day long. It's just a matter of bending the skis. To make really short turns I try to stomp my skis in half. It bends and loads the ski to the maximum to get a tighter arc and quicker transitions between the turns.
