any mexican who has been in GDL before will agree this is the best city in the country, public transportation is the best, even if It's on transition yet the quality and the service is so good, also is the most sostenible city in the country, the greenest, the most open minded, the night life is the best even better than CDMX, the ranking of the best night clubs in the country showed last year that in Cancún, Vallarta, Cabos and GDL are the best night life in the country, also Jalisco is well known for the food, the mix of europena/indigenous food is just perfect, the weather is just great from september to march. simply GDL is the best city in Mexico no questions.

We’re in rainy season, and it’s not bad. The rain is at night, and most days are sunny. We absolutely love living here in Colonia Chapalita. Almost all my daily needs are met in walking distance. If you want a great Airbnb in our colonia, I have one.

I have lived in GDL, actually the N/W part of Zapopan for 5 years and love it here. In my opinion, life is MUCH more convenient with a car. I have 2 dogs and almost everyday we go to a different park. The biggest is Parque Metropolitano. As far as rainy season, it pretty much only rains once the sun goes down and the days generally have a few clouds but its not really overcast and gloomy. Newcomers learn quickly where the low lying neighborhoods are, which tend to have flooding during rainy season. Colonia Americana seems to be popular with the younger crowd and those new to the area, but IMO there are far better areas to live.

It could be dangerous if you leave your car in a dark, lonely place with the keys stuck. But if you are cautious and with a little common sense, you will not have any problems (And of course be up to date with your Insurance Company)@@nathansjourney9064

Many years ago I traveled from Baj North-Baja Sur, to Cancun ,Mexico city .Michocan.Mazatla,Acapulco.Oaxacca,and the Copper canyon .Yet I never made it to Guadalajara .I had heard it was nice and the 2nd largest city in Mexico .I'm glad you and Taylor enjoyed it so much .Buena Suerte con cambia r su casa!

Alex, Taylor nailed it : (1) you both speak Spanish and (2) you are both young. Guadalajara is where you will be happiest and can bloom. As you said, Queretaro was the choice when you first moved, but it has served its purpose and now you are ready to move on. Try to get a place for just 6 months if you decide to move there, as you will be pleasantly surprised what you will come across those first 6 months that you may find more appealing to live in.. Offer to pay for the 6 months in advance, to include an option for another 6 months, if you want it. They will take it. Queretaro is a place for those just starting out in Mexico; you and Taylor have grown past that and will reap the benefits you will find in Guadalajara. Remember, no place will be 100% perfect.

I’m in PVR at the moment but will be in GDL after the 19. Love all the options of a big city. I will be flying on Aerobús for )100 dollars (with two suitcases). Love the proximity to the beach

Just moved to GDL from San Francisco California I’m in my early 40’s and I wish I would’ve done it earlier I’ve been here two months now, I hold dual citizenship I was born in GDL & my entire family is here & I went to school here well until the 3rd grade
04:56 3-3.5 hours is doable but will need to press the posted maximum hard. I've done it in under three on my motorcycle but that is running 145-170k/hr

I spent 3 months there last winter wow, I love it. Looking forward to move there in the future. City has everything and also very easy flying in and out and everywhere very nice. Ok, some and many expats live in Ajijic me, I would not last a month there but then we are all different. I have friends who love Mexico city and cancun and Merida even Tequila or Los Gabos so again, find your passion what this life living in Mexico is all about and then make a move but try out first like rent a airbnb easy in and easy out if so. OK, like they say, life is good if it is but if not ok then not so good and many are now in the boat not having it good and what I mean not just the Ukraina people many even in Mexico and the Us and everywhere, life has changed but is still somewhat good if yo have it good and you can live a good life so live and enjoy if possible. Viva Mexico and viva la vida like Frida said.

How safe is Guadalajara compared with Queretaro?
For me, the plusses of GDL are the beautiful and big central square with cathedral, Cabanas, and lots of plazas, metro to take you to different areas like Zapatan and Tlaquepaque, the great symphony and concert hall (Degollado), high end restaurants and supermarkets (I was near the Fresco near Minerva glorieta), the closed streets for biking on Sundays; the coolness of Americana, and of course the open friendly people. On the downside, and especially compared with Queretaro: You can't walk around after dark; QRO is no problem walking anywhere at any time. I also like the proximity to CDMX from QRO and other day trips like San Miguel Allenda and Bernal. But after dark, GDL feels a little deserted and creepy, where that's never the case in QRO.

On a related video, the producer said that Mexico City's noise was almost intolerable so I'm interested in your comments on Guadalajara's urbanity. This is one of the biggest issues I have with Mexican culture and I worry it's insurmountable.
I'm afraid that's part of the deal, large cities, medium-sized or even small towns in Mexico are generally louder than other parts of the Western world... music is everywhere, buses, trucks, markets, streets, restaurants, schools, you name it, everything is louder, but it's also part of the charm, and you get used to it if you're open enough. Same for smell (good and bad :)
I had the same experience, not having to dress up! I went to a VERY nice hotel to salsa dance...in my overall shorts and Mickey Mouse tank. lol Nobody batted an eye.

You touched on the "rainy season," but what are your overall thoughts on the weather in general?
Hi Bob! I wanted to weigh in on your question. My husband and I have lived in GDL since 12/21. The weather is the number one reason why we stayed. It is incredible here, better, perhaps, than Hawaii (though I've never been there). For instance, right now in July, the temperature has been running between 60 in the morning to 83 in the afternoon. Actually April and May are a little hotter (high around 94 sometimes, but when the rainy season kicks in, it cools off dramatically. January and February have chilly mornings but you can still wear shorts in the afternoon. Hope that helps!
Hi, Bob! People often say Guadalajara has some of the best weather in Mexico & overall, I agree. It was very hot when I was there at the beginning of May, but for the most part, I understand that temperatures don't swing either way too intensely.

Love Guadalajara! There is a direct flight from GDL to Portland on Volaris which is cool (because of Nike).
I consider Queretaro my hometown in Mexico,, but lately, Ive been spending a lot of time in Guadalajara. And I love both. It's a matter of small city vs big city living. What would you prefer?

I live in Los Angeles, and we have freeways and 20 years ago I used to work in downtown L.A. on the weekend back then. I lived 30 minutes away from L.A., but it was quick back then. I recently took my father to a relatives funeral in the city of Santa Paula, Ca. We went on a Friday at 6:00 am. and the traffic was horrible. It took us at least 1hr. to get threw Downtown L.A. and another 2hrs. to get to our destination. We had just made it on time. I would never go threw that again. Oh! and on our way back it was worse it was 5:00 pm. and everybody was going home from work. Awful, Just Awful!

Queretaro doesn't have great air quality. It doesn't have big parks in the city center either.

Interesting video. I've been trying to figure out where to go if I want to capture the essence and distillation of the Mexican culture in general--to the extent that it can be found in a single location, that is. It sounds like Guadalajara is a great place to start. I doubt I'll ever live in Mexico because doing that probably would involve a divorce, but I definitely plan to spend some time there. Two months ago I thought going to the interior of Mexico involved taking your life in your own hands. Now, after hours of watching RUclips videos about the country, my view has taken a 180 degree turn. How could I have not known this all of my life? East coast living, I guess. So npw I find myself at the age of 71 suddenly discovering a reality I didn't know existed and trying to acquire enough Spanish to "get by." Even at my age life contains adventures.

I live in Gdl and I can say you cannot walk everywhere. Some streets are only for bikes. It is difficult to cross streets.
No cons for me, I love that city!!

Is it true that there is a lot of kidnapping and narco violence in Guadalajara?
You guys are saying it’s a walkable city, but you’re not mentioning that the historical center can be dangerous at night. ALL of my Mexican friends here say it’s not safe at night in this part of town. I wonder if English-only speakers hear these warnings?

Hi Jack! I have been living in Guadalajara about 7 months, so I can't really say how much it has been impacted by inflation. However, I will tell you that it is noticeably cheaper here than in the southern part of the US. For instance, I came here from Arkansas, which is a pretty cheap state to live in, and my husband and I spend the same amount of money here as we did there. The difference is that we live a lot better here. To be honest, my husband and I spend about $4000 a month here. But we rent an incredible condo and we eat out every other day. We could never have done that back in Arkansas. Medical is probably the most noticeable savings here. We pay $500 a year for a medical package offered by a chain of clinics in Mexico (AXA Kelaty). It covers all of our medical visits, x-rays, labs, dental, and eye care. It does not cover hospital stays. I haven't used the dental or eye care yet, but the medical has been every bit as good, if not better, than in Arkansas. So that is a huge savings compared to the cost in the US. In regards to your budget of $2000 /month, yes, I think you can live here comfortably for that amount, just not extravagantly. Hope this helps.

There are 3 big parks in the city center: Alcalde, Agua Azul y González Gallo. But yeah unfurtunately none of them near Americana area.
Parque rojo is the big central park. It's practically in Americana

I think Oaxaca City is awesome! Lots of great restaurants and so many things to do esp for outdoors enthusiasts.
Too big too busy for us full time. Totally agree with the food and nightlife but a week 10 days will be enough I think. We haven't been to Mexico City yet (we are going in November) so we can't make a comparison. The drivers in Guadalajara are mad and bad we saw so many accidents just in one week

@9:44. I can assure you that the people from GDL are very happy that Mexico City is far away. There is a rivalry between the two cities and the Tapatíos do not like the Chilangos.
Oh yes, I haven't heard much about the rivalry between the two cities, but I can imagine!
Poblanos, chilangos y queretanos are the same people/tribe. They love to hate us; we just protect from them.
People is happier in Mexico City than in Guadalajara, people in Guadalajara are kinda unfriendly compared to the people in Mexico city

Was in an expensive area of Guadalajara, wasnt impressed at all. Expensive. Traffic was ridiculous. Taxi drivers weren't mean but weren't friendly. Found a city in Gutamala friendlier.
I have never been to Mexico. I wonder if bread can be avoided when eating out ?

Haha, I love your commentary on traffic. From experience...crosswalks, signs, lanes, speed limits and sometimes traffic lights are best described as "suggestions". I usually visit annually with my husband to see his family and I love the city but I'm definitely white knuckled in the car...forget the airport drama!
I feel like manual cars stop so much more abruptly! It's definitely something to get used to!

What's the situation on altitude sickness compared to Mexico City? If this reference helps, I can handle Denver, but Colorado Springs is difficult for me.
I did not personally notice the elevation, but I live in Queretaro which is higher than Guadalajara (and Denver).

I think videos spend way too much time on issues of fun and restaurant food and not enough on the issues related to life, such as shopping for food, plumbing, electricity, water supplies, neighborhoods, rents, air quality, health insurance etc. for long term living. Why didn't you point out that the forest fires would make living in Guadalajara unliveable for alot of people.
