Very nice review. I remember reading an article in "Car" magazine about these. I remember them being impressed by the fuel consumption but commenting that they didn't see the point given that the performance was degraded such that it was similar to the 280SE which you could buy for a lot less. They thought the entire point of the V8 being a lot faster was lost. For myself I don't care. A more relaxed high speed long distance cruise ability would be a lot more important than fast take off from a stop. I do remember walking into NMI in Durban (Natal Motor Industries) with my father as a kid and the salesman telling us the 380 could get from Durban to Jhb on one tank. We were suitably impressed, not that we could ever have affoded one anyway. One other thing. That's obviously a well maintained car to be in such condition at such an age but being an 82 I hope the timing chain has been converted to a double row.
For the microphone... Yes a Rode Videomic pro+ is a must. It is not cheap, but it does the job even with hurricane winds. You will try severals and eventually will spend for this one. Personally I do not regret it at all. Best buy for making videos.
Awesome news about the mic guys! If you have any issues once you get it or need help setting it all up, I'd be happy to help out at no charge. I see the one on Takealot comes with two little fluffy windshields included, wind noise will be a thing of the past 😎
Very nice looking car. The US versions were underpowered - I believe about 155 BHP for the 380SL and I assume for the sedan also. But I’m not sure the scale used for HP ratings in the 1980’s is the same as the one in use today. I rode in an ‘82 380SL recently and it felt pretty quick.
The ad for this one will be going onto my FB page in the morning, it’s a SPONSORED POST so you would deal with the owner directly. If interested in the car Marks number is +27 (82) 603-8471. It’ll be advertised at R90k.
Love the W126 380se. What a nice car 😀

Love the 380Se my uncle had one many years ago
Lovely car, and I want to appreciate all the effort you put in to making these videos. Thank you and keep it up. 🙌
Thank you!

Nice car. I drove a friend's car and the M116 V8 provides a smooth drive and is quick!
You need to get the microphone that your friend suggested.

Affordable priced...that is the crunch.

Nice.
Nice car. Did all W126 in South Africa have all black dashboards? The bottom part of the dashboard would always be in the interior colour in Europe.
Not a bad car at all, pity about the chrome wheel arch trim, IMHO it's too much 'bling', and the securing screws tend to be a rust trap.
I understand the timing chain can become a problem on the 3.8l engines, and they later fitted a double chain. What are your experience?
Place some prices for the cars that is available
