The Thief and the Cobbler - Ending Comparison

- This is an idea I thought up. Not many are aware of the differences of the 3 known versions. And there are some that are confused about it. So, I thought of the idea of making Comparisons of show people the differences of each version. The Original version with the combination of the Kermaidas Cut because Richard Williams was also a part of that, the Calvert version that was only released in Australia, and the Miramax version that people know more. Enjoy. I don't own anything in the video. All credit goes to the following person, Richard Williams (creator of The Thief and the Cobbler). And Garrett the Rat (who made a Fan-Edit).

The thief just stole the movie and dipped
Interesting how Miramax decided to repurpose one of the deleted Thief scenes for their ending
I like the song in the Calvert version of the ending, though i would like to see the ending Williams intended to have fully animated.
I like the song too.
Well we might be getting it due to a curtain fan project.
Thief: See Ya 👋
I will admit that the song is good but Fred Calvert is still an a**
The addition of the narration makes it feel like someone is just doing improv rifftrax style. I liked the recobbled cut the best
I wasn’t a fan of any of these. The thief felt like a force of nature, for him to give up at the end without Tack having to overcome him felt really anticlimactic
I like Williams' take personally. The silence between tack and the thief along with the body motions leaves it up to interpretation as to whether the thief left for his own sake because he realized the three golden balls wasn't worth it if he was dead, or if it was a selfless decision to save not only his own life, but the life of someone else; revealing that he's a thief with standards.
There was another workprint of one of the latter versions that had a fight with him.
I mean... that's the whole point, the fact that he gives up after all that is just funny and also surprisingly subversive.
Thief: Leave Me Alone!
...who tough that giving the mute characters a voice was a good idea?
Probably that "professional" Weinstein. He was scandalous when it came to distributing films in the US, Thief and the Cobbler included.
What's wrong with it
@@carminerivera8596 Everything
Out of touch movie executives.
@@carminerivera8596 the fact that he's visually designed as a mute character.
It was a little ashame they didn't mention anymore about the animal sidekicks like the mouse, snake and camel.
I know they didn't play much of a role but it's still good to know if they're alright.
The Mirmax version feels like something out of an abridged fan parody on RUclips.
You can’t tell me inner monologue thief isn’t the best rendition.
It looks the theif just destroyed his universe because he just stole the movie
Something about the way Calvert portrayed it makes me feel sorry for the thief
Noo but I like both versions! I love the uk ending but the voice wasn’t really hitting for me, I like the other voice better. But the Tacks as his mouth expressions- genius
Seeing the miramax version pulled
old memories from the very deepest recesses of my mind.
Ah yes the lore of The Thief and the Cobbler moment 100

Tack: I Do.
Honestly, I do like the Thief giving back the balls when he's called out for the misunderstanding and praised as a hero with Tack. He at least deserves something (minus literally stealing the whole movie, of course.)
UK version's the best.
The thief just stole the entire movie he is so outerversal level!
Why they would need to narrate and so make the Thief talks and so Tack.
The original will always be better.
@Victor Gaming Personality is not only by how much a person can talk. But mostly of the actions they make. If you watch the original idea you can get my point.
It was for primarily marketing reasons. So the movie could be understood by most of the public, thus there would be higher interest in the film.
Unfortunately the original work print of the movie, if fully animated and finished. Probably would flop hard in movie theaters because of the film’s structure and style with its characters.
@@Turbulation1 Well, I think the animation would've saved the film if it was finished in Williams' original vision.
@@JayRidders Personally, I don't know.
But I generally don't think most audiences in the 90s would be coming to animated movies just for the animation. It would absolutely be critically acclaimed for its animation alone but wouldn't drive sales.
Thief: I Can’t Explain!
I really need the music in the Calvert version, I’m a sucker for songs like it-
I think in the original version and I mean the original version, I think Tack's VA was Sean Connery who was also the first James Bond, makes sense why he was able to defeat the whole army with one tack.
Sean Connery was originally going to voice him, but Richard Williams couldn't get him, so he got his wife's friend to do the one line.
I like the ending where the thief arrives with the balls in his arms and well the sultan I call not the king. He calls out and says you found them calling him a along with tack🤣🤣🤣🤣
Why have they decided that a thick voice would look good on tack? XD
That’s because it’s the original version
Actually Sean Connery was originally going to voice but he never showed up to voice tack. And the deep voice is unknown he was never credited, so we don’t know who voiced acted him in the original
@@splotchyfingers I did not know that, Although I think it looks better being mute
@@PERSONA4GOLDENN same a lot more facial expressions and body language help without diologue
But I do kinda like The Miramax thief voice but I get that it’s annoying.
@@splotchyfingers In the Recobbled Cut, Gilchrist credits Connery as the voice of Tack, likely because the original voice actor was never found. My Dad kinda believed Connery DID make it no matter what I told him.
One of the versions on RUclips says Sean Connery was the voice of Tack.
Which is false. Richard Williams originally wanted to get Sean Connery, but couldn't, so he got his wife's friend to do the voice. This wasn't revealed until A Moment in Time.
Tack: Hang On!
Is there a Calvert version of the movie like the one you just uploaded on DVD? I’m trying to find it and I would love to get it but the only place I could find copies(unsure if any are that specific version) was Amazon.
The DVD for the Calvert version is a rarity. It's hard to find and I was lucky to snipe on Ebay years ago. Also, the DVD is in pan-and-scan.
@@Josh366lol2 thank you. It seems that Ebay is the way to go. I'm finding a good selection of the DVD but hopefully I can find the right one. Besides isn't the Calvert one the only one where they keep the singing scenes of Tack and Yum-Yum within the movie? Because I enjoyed them a lot!!
@@sagelsnow6956 Both versions contain the musical numbers. The only difference is that the Miramax version moves the last song in the credits.
But it is the original song before Tack and YumYum kiss right? Not like a remake of different voices instead of the original voices of Tack and YumYum?
@@sagelsnow6956 Yes.
Kinda like the second Thief Redeption
Matthew Broderick and Jennifer Beals
Please help me to understand. Is the cobbler light-skinned or dark-skinned? I was under the impression that he was literally white, which was a very iconic look, but then in some shots he's drawn with dark skin.
When Tack and Yum-Yum head to see the Witch, he got a tan.
Just like Simba and Nala
Ayo why Tack's voice at 1:29 kinda... 😳😳😳
While i like the Princess and the Cobbler though that the ending is like what, and moment Tack and Princess Yum-Yum married but flashback the moment he met princess all over, gave me dizzy (not only i dont like this movie because every single frames are the same, also song) So i prefer the Original Thief and the Cobbler ending
Wow, the Miramax version...yeesh, even the Calvert version is better than that one.
i rly dont like that he changes so much so fast at the end, kinda lost his character
Who doesn’t like movies the Miramax version was beautiful
With that ridiculous inner voices that just ruin the characters with: break 4th wall lines, anachronistic, unnecessary and obvious thought and useless comments where silence speak harder?! With bad voices acting too?
PLEASE
