Everyone but the original creators of a song is going to have influences that shape how they play. I can see what you mean, but that doesn't change the fact that it is pretty much a technical replication of the original.

Some of the songs I played in order were: Creeping Death (great for beginners!) Master of Puppets (harder and took practice but NOT impossible) Blackened The End of the Line That Was Just Your Life Moth Into Flame Through the Never (live) Lost Society - Trash All Over You Don't be scared to play the live versions. Amazing Cover! New guitar? The only thing you could do to improve it is use both pickups for the solo. Just makes it sound a bit warmer.

If you want to improve your down picking hand, practice doing up picking only with a metronome... it will dramatically improve your down picking speed
