- Oh my goodness! It’s been such a long time since I posted but in all honesty motherhood has been one of the most incredible, magical, and most challenging chapters of my life. I am so excited to finally share my birth story, the day that made me a mother, today on Mother’s Day.
When I first found out I was pregnant and was terrified of giving birth, in fact I suffered from what is called Tokophobia or the fear of giving birth. Especially as a Black woman and the mortality rates of Black mothers in America I was even more afraid to give birth.
I wanted to share my birth story today for any other mamas that are struggling with the idea of giving birth in the hope that I can help to calm some fears out there surrounding birth.
When I came to terms that I was suffering from Tokophobia, I was incredibly intentional about exposing myself to birth, educating myself about birth, and dedicated to finding the right care team to assist me in this important moment of my life.
I listened to podcasts like Built to Birth, took birthing courses from Bridget Teyler here on RUclips, and hired a birth and postpartum doula to support me to prepare for birth and how to take care of a newborn. I can truly say that taking all these steps to ensure I had educated myself, had support, and assembled the right care team I had a beautiful birth. Although I had to be induced I had all the tools I needed to have the natural birth I had hoped for.
Giving birth was the most beautiful and powerful moment of my life and I hope it will be for you too mama!
That totally made me cry. As someone who never wanted to have children, I applaud those who have the calling and love that you’re sharing birthing positivity. So important!! Congrats to you both!!

*Hello there and just checking in*.
I apologize for just commenting to a video that is a few years old as I’m just seeing this appear under my recommendations, but I do have a question?
If I might ask, what time did they insert your cervadil pill before you were induced with pitocin?
And:
Are they allowed to discharge you after your cervadil was placed before starting your induction in the morning?
How come they didn’t admit you in the beginning? Just curious to know.
Thank you in advance!
Thanks so much for watching! Happy to answer, we had our girl in early 2022 and with the pandemic they decided to schedule me and keep me overnight so that I had a room and didn't have to be discharged which was nice. I had the cervadil around 11pm and then the pitocin I had around 11am as I had dilated to 4cm by that time. I hope that helps! It was a really great experience and really glad we had a positive birth.
@@CARACELESTEWEST Yes, it does! Thank you for your response, I appreciate it and I’m glad you did have a positive experience. Congrats to you all!
