One of the lesser known fact is that ChIna have opened heavily subsidized medical clinics in Africa, staffed by Chinese specialist doctors. Before BRI was introduced, China first start from it own infrastructures, to set example that they could replicate it in other countries. Can US do it in their country first? China has built total 42,000 km high speed rails in only 20 years, while the US still has 0 km. Obama and California kicked off the California high speed rail project about 10 years ago, nobody knows or even cares if it will ever complete 😢
@lyricforlife The first Chinese high speed rail at 200km/hour completed in 2003, the first 350km/hour line started operation in 2008. You are somewhat right because about 75% of the rails were built in the past 10 years.

their brightline rail just went into service, claiming to be the high speed train which is bullshit. Its max speed only goes up to around 220km/h, and the minimum speed to be considered as true high speed train is 250. Plus, for most of the part of the line, they cant even go that fast, as they are still using the old railroads which have a lot of level crossings and connected to local roads in cities and suburbs. the first hour of the first day when they opened this line, the train already fatally hit a car. What a joke.

There is a cult-like devotion to neoliberal extraction/exploitation policy within the US government and its associated Think Tanks. They simply can't continence the idea of e.g. building roads and bridges in a country in return for the equivalent value of something like timber (just an example of a win-win situation); it has have strings attached that include austerity measures and privatization of government-owned resources (that US firms like Blackrock get to conveniently buy for pennies on the dollar).
The American answer to BRI is BBB (build back better). It seems it hasn't gotten off the ground. The next great idea is to link Europe across the Middle East to India. Now that's in jeopardy because of crises in Israel.
I don't think it would have got anywhere anyway, as the US are all mouth when it comes to projects like this .

China subscribes to the dogma that for a nation to achieve economic prosperity, it must prioritise and put in place a modern and efficient infrastructure (要想富、先修路). That is so very true! There is no doubt that infrastructure connectivity is the key to prosperity.
China has demonstrated, over the last 2 decades, that its spectacular economic transformation and modernisation could not have been possible had it not put in place inarguably the world most advanced infrastructure. In fact, the net benefits of connectivity and transport route improvement to a nation must be assessed on their economy-wide impacts, and not from the isolated project feasibility of cost versus revenue.
The so-called “debt-trap”, is nothing more than a bogey used by the West to demonise China and to frighten countries into believing that they are better off without modern infrastructures.
In truth without investing in modern infrastructures a developing country will remain in the “poverty-trap”.
Even for a developed economy like the United States, maintaining its public infrastructure assets in good condition is critical. But, alas, the US public infrastructure has been frozen in time capsule.
While the US own infrastructure assets are crumbling, it is telling the rest of the world “don’t build it”. But how could a country develop or sustain its development without being connected by an efficient road, sea, and telecommunication network to the rest of the world?
And that is precisely what the Belt and Road Initiative is all about.
China has improved and developed at such a rapid rate that it leaves US, UK and EU gaping for breath. It will take US/EU many more years to catch up but by then China would be at the pinnacle. The US/EU only progress is to add in more sanctions which are toothless and meaningless.

You know there is a Chinese saying, to become self sufficient, you must first build roads. That was what happened inside China. The reason the West is jealous and difficult for the West to copy China is mainly because of democracy and freedom where workers are told and taught to beware of own self interests and nothing on where the importance of loyalty to your country which is why Chinese workers are so powerful and selfless because they are taught to work as a team and loyal to their country. One of your clips on Africa shows the Nairobi - Mombasa railway. If you Google Nairobi and use it's 'direction' function to go to Mombasa, the Google Map will only show a road between the 2 cities, which has a travel time of 8 hours. If you try to use TRAIN fiction, Google Map shows nothing at all. Shows how western journalist preaches fake information.

The position enjoyed by USA and western allies is and was that because they wanted to extract resources and keep Africa subservient through sabotage and donating military bases and biased NGOs. They lost the first advantage by this negative and self-centered policies that promoted negative hygiene factors. Win-win strategy provides opportunities to creativity and innovation.

BRI should expand to all BRICS countries, instead of being confined to just mostly Asian countries. It's unfortunate that BRICS member, India, chooses to lean towards the non-starter Middle East Corridor that was proposed during the G7 meeting.
the BRI has expanded to Europe, Africa and South America. The imitative has faced a lot of push backs from G7 and their allies though, so the expansion in Europe is not fast, but it's not China's fault. In other continents, there have also been push backs from America's friends. And you are right, India is always the party pooper, the one that wants to do things differently and opposite to what China has been doing, just to prove that they are at par with, if not better than, China. They always has that mindset to compete with China on everything, which is very annoying to be honest.
