Take your time! It's a huge responsibility to let someone come into your world, then down the line as a co-parent to your children. It's complicated, especially with another mother around, and your children bonding with someone else. I adore my wife's kids and love and care for them as if they are my own, but am often faced with jealousy and insecurities from their other mother, even though it takes a tribe to raise children in today's world. Best thing my wife and I did was take our time, and make sure we were in it for the long haul before I was introduced to the children. By the time I met the kids I knew the responsibility I was committing to taking on, because we had time to discover how we truly felt about one another, as well as me having time to decide if helping raise someone else's children is for me. We have been married 3 years, with no regrets, despite often trying times.

Awesome video. I just went through a really bad time and I really connect with your videos and love watching your strength and honesty. When you jump right in to trying to move on instead of fixing what broke inside you it leads to failure. Failure to recognize yourself. Failure to give yourself time. Failure to be the best version of you. After a 4 year long, emotionally abusive relationship with my ex-girlfriend, I tried to jump into the dating pool immediately. After leaving the bad relationship I had a rush of “I’m amazing, the world is amazing, I’m ready to take on the world!” and I wanted to find a new relationship. I was convinced I was ready for it. At the same time I was packing up my life in New Mexico and moving to Massachusetts to essentially run away from my problems. I foolishly thought that the heartbreak I had been through had dissolved away and I was finally ready to move on both literally and figuratively. I started up a long distance relationship with a woman that lived in the part of the country I was moving to. We hit it off really well at first and I was convinced that I was making the right decisions. As time moved on it was clear that I was not ready to be in a relationship and that everything that had hurt me for 4 years was still a deep gaping wound that had not healed but merely stopped bleeding. I was useless in a relationship because I was still letting the past haunt me and had never faced the hurt head on. Sure I had done plenty of crying and sleepless nights, but I had never taken a deep look at who I had become as a result of that relationship and just how far I was from the person I truly wanted to be. I think I felt like a relationship would heal me but all I did was end up pulling someone close to the mess my ex had created. As soon as I ended the relationship with the woman I had met in Massachusetts, I had nothing left to do but focus on me. I started deep thinking about the abusive relationship I had left and I had a mental break down of sorts. What I had unknowingly done was have a mental break down that put me in my most basic form and required that I start building myself up again. I had to shed what I had become and remember who I used to be. I started finding myself again and as soon as I felt the real healing begin I broke up with the woman I was dating and moved back to New Mexico. If I hadn’t failed I wouldn’t have been able to find myself. It was the push I needed and I am far happier alone while I finish healing. Through all of the being alone I have found one true thing: I’m not alone. I may not be in a relationship but it doesn’t mean I live without love. I am loved by my family and friends and I in return get to love them. Love hasn’t disappeared. I just learned where it really is. I can’t wait to bring someone into my life and experience another relationship but I know now that I will be okay if I don’t. I have me. I too am dating myself :) I look forward to watching your journey through healing and becoming the strongest you. You are amazing and you will be loved by those amazing kids and friends and family. Should a relationship come your way, that woman will be the luckiest woman on Earth.

I can completely relate to this, I did the exact same thing. Now I've a teenager and a almost 10 year old and I believe I did the wrong thing as now I'm ready to meet someone my kids are so used to just me, the mention off me dating fills them with dread.

Give yourself time and grace. Each stage of grief is important and essential. You'll get there, but don't rush it. It has been more than two years for me, and even now at times I still find myself get lost in thought and struggle. When I feel myself start to spiral, I pick up the phone and call someone to talk to, or I pull one of the kids into my bed and hold them. I let their sleepy breathing help steady mine. Most days, I surround myself with people I love and activities to enjoy, and I feel steady and balanced. Don't beat yourself up. It's a trauma that has many layers.

I don't want to be offensive. I am bi. But I was chasing after girls fir years and they will just lead me on. I was dating guys for fun. I gave a guy a chance and he showed me that he really loves me. Got married. Have children. He knows I am Bi. I guess what I am really trying to say is don't close your doors to the opposite sex. Being single is also good. I have a sister that is divorced and I tell her that happiness isn't brought only by being married.

Just to clarify, Candice and I are both very much involved in our precious kids lives. We share in parenting duties 50/50 and are always making sure we are working on our communication with each other for the benefit of our kids. Rest assured, we will always work together for our kids, despite the breakup of our marriage. Our kids come first and we definitely work together and are both very much involved together in their lives. Thank you, Megan ❤️

Yes, I have the kids half of the time. They are happy and healthy and given lots of love and support. I am their MOM. That has never changed.
