    Hi Ian, what you’ve done is excellent mate, no need to change anything, it all looks good and solid, cheers for now, John

      Thanks very much John! I'm glad I don't seem to have made any glaring errors with my baseboard build! Cheers, Ian.

    Hi Ian. I do love your short and cicinq videos! As you aren't building a modular layout then simply bolting the sections together is absolutely fine. 👌 cheers Euan

      Thanks Euan! I keep thinking I'm missing a trick, and am trying to second guess myself, but if it's okay by you, then I'm fine with it! Cheers, Ian.

    Great set of video's showing your progress. As an alternative option you could have installed a Baton running the whole length of the back wall to which you could have fixed the baseboard negating the necessity of having to make the back legs. Great build though.

      Thanks Peter, I'm glad you're enjoying the videos! That's a great idea, and in fact, when I eventually get to extending the layout around the room, I'll be using a batten on the wall as you suggest! However, this particular wall has my neighbour's bedroom on the other side! By using legs I was hoping to reduce the amount of noise transmitted from the baseboard through the wall! I may have been unnecessarily cautious, but it made me feel better for considering it!! Lol! All the best, Ian.

    Man this is exactly how I have been thinking about joining my future bench work! I imagine using 2 or 3 bolts to join each together just to make it a little more stable.

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 года назад +1

      Well, as you can see, it definitely works! I've used two bolts for each join, but I think one would have been fine! The leg levellers are the most crucial part in my opinion, as you need to ensure that the baseboards are level with each other where they join before you start drilling holes and bolting them together! Good luck! Ian

      Thanks Tony! I'm looking forward to that too! :) I'm also looking forward to seeing how you develop the two new station areas on your layout! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian your baseboards coming along nicely. Now that you have gone with wing nuts I would sagest you change your standard washers for penny washers this will reduce the chance of the bolts being pulled in. as you lean on the boards there will always be a small movement till they setale into place. Have you considered putting a bolt at the floor end of the legs to allow the legs extra support at the point weir board 1-2 and 2-3 are back to back. Hope this helps. Stay safe.

      @iansngauge  2 года назад

      Thanks Mike! Yes, that's a great idea about the washers! Actually I would have used the larger ones but ran out, but I've just ordered some more so will install them once they arrive! I hadn't considered putting a bolt at the floor end, as there's only one set of legs that align between the 3ft and 4ft baseboards! There's also a gap between them, however, I may consider adding a metal plate either side of the legs for extra support! Thanks for the suggestion! All the best, Ian.

    Just finished watching from Vlog 1 to this update Ian. All looks well! also nice to hear a calm relaxing voice 👍 As I have had to give up N gauge (eye sight) moved onto OO9, I would recommend the magnifying glasses (spectacle type) as no drought seeing some items is near impossible.

      @iansngauge  2 года назад

      Hi Vinny, well, thank you very much for checking out my channel! I hope you enjoyed the visit! Yes, N gauge modelling isn't the easiest for those of us with failing eyesight! I just haven't got the space for anything bigger unfortunately! I've been wondering about those spectacle type magnifying glasses - those with the LED light - as I seemingly need lots of contrast to see properly! At the moment I've got one of those head visor magnifiers for when I want to do some very close-up work - like painting figures - but they're a bit cumbersome! Anyway, thanks very much for the visit! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian, good idea to bolt everything together, makes it all nice and solid between the boards. John

      Thanks John! Yes, the whole structure feels incredibly solid since bolting it together! Cheers, Ian.

    Looks good, as mentioned in another comment ,think about back scenes now ,and get them on ,then all the heavy lifting is done

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 года назад

      Thanks Colin! Yes, backscenes are now definitely a bit higher up on my things to do list than they were! I need to get some XPS foam down first to judge the height they'll need to be! I don't want to get them installed only to find that I've obscured them with the foam! Lol! Cheers, Ian.

    Hi Ian Looks like a good solid setup there, I used bolts and alignment dowels on mine just in case I ever have to move them for access to the radiator (like yours under the window). However since then a firm called DCC Concepts (based at Settle Station), have brought out a set of dowels which will also transfer power through them and can be wired up to the bus wire (if DCC), perhaps it might make that part of your build a bit easier(?). Happy Modelling!

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 года назад

      Thanks Peter! Yes, I know DCC Concepts - just ordered some stuff from them actually! Those dowels sound interesting! Thanks for the tip, I'll give them a look! To be honest, I'm still undecided whether to drill holes to route the DCC power cables, or just run the wires below the edges where the baseboards join, so these may be a better solution! Thanks again, Ian.

    Most excellent, Ian. Sorry, I couldn't catch the type of foam that you're using - I've been using a Kingspan tip foam, easy to sculpt but shockingly dusty.

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 года назад

      Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you! I'm using XPS foam which is fairly easy to cut and sculpt, and doesn't break up into thousands of little spheres like polystyrene sheets! All the best, Ian.

    Hi Ian, looking good and it all fits in well! Have you thought yet about your doing about a backscene it might be time to plan now if you are fitting to the rear or to the wall. Cheers Gary

    • @iansngauge
      @iansngauge  2 года назад

      Hi Gary, thanks, I'm somewhat amazed that they all fitted together so smoothly! Lol! Yes, backscenes, a good thought! I will have them, but I'm going to fit them directly to the wall, and I think I'm going to try and stick them up using Blu Tac! Maybe a bit left field, but it can't be any worse than some of the horror stories I've seen with people sticking them up more permanently and then having creases form in them! Anyway, thanks, I'll begin researching them right away! Cheers, Ian.
