Well, that explains it 🤔 no wonder I had no success with installing points 😢 I used yellow for the frog wires 😳 school boy error 🙄 of course, they should have been green 🐸 😱 Very best wishes from the Emerald Isle ☘️
Good morning Paul! Haha! That'll be it! Yellow wire for frog wires is simply madness! You set yourself up for failure there mate! Lol! All the best, Ian.
Morning Ian, as ever though you feel progress is slow I remain impressed that you manage to both get things done and also get a video together (the gap between finishing "doing" and finishing things purely video-making in my current one was 4 weeks!!). You look like you've become very comfortable with soldering now, which is useful 🙂 It's nice to see all this progressing 🙂
Good morning Jonathan! I like the mix of things that I do, but sometimes feel that I should be progressing the actual build more! It can be difficult though, as I tend to spend a couple of days doing, and filming, then a couple of days putting the video together! I also have a life outside of my YT channel, believe it or not, and since retiring my time seems to disappear even more quickly than it did when I was working! Lol! Soldering is still a black art to me, but I've become quite comfortable with soldering wires to rails now that I've figured out a process! Cheers, Ian.
@@iansngauge Lol, I've heard that about retirement from quite a few people 🤣 I remain impressed that you get so much done on the channel including production week-by-week, and always look forward to the Thursday video (though I often can't watch it until a Friday) 🙂 Take care.
@@endoorrailway - It's true! I'm not sure exactly how, but workload definitely increases after you retire from work! Lol! Thank you Jonathan! It's comments like these that really make the whole process worthwhile! :) Ian
Hello there Ian, Sorry for the delay thought I’d commented but I see now that I hadn’t 😂. Your progress is going well, I will make note of making sure to use green wire for any frogs 🐸 if and when I need to. This tricky bit doesn’t look so tricky anymore your doing really well with it. All the best, Nat 🚂👍
Good morning Nat! No problem! Thanks! Haha! Yes, green wire is essential for frogs! 🐸 It's definitely coming together, and I'll hopefully be running trains across it before too long! All the best, Ian.
Evening Ian. Woohoo track !!! Just you wait till you see my "how to" video in installing Peco Twistlock point motors - then you'll be ripping out and starting again 😂😂 ( and they use green wire as well😅)
@@piccadillymodelrailwaysMy first attempt went without a hitch - I'll be fitting the 2nd one later on today. This will tell me whether I just got lucky with the first or they are almost idiot proof to fit !
Good morning Euan! Haha! Do you really want me to reevaluate what point motors to use? It took me about a year to decide to go with servo motors! Lol! Very pleased that the Twistlocks use green frog wire though - just as it should be! Looking forward to your video about how to fit them! All the best, Ian.
OO here, agree soldering to those droppers from the frogs is a pain, amusing just how fine the wire is against shat we normally use for droppers too. those custom tracksetta are nice too
I have to admit that I've got much better at soldering in recent months, but a method of getting wire to attach to those thin frog wires reliably just evades me - hence they had to go! Spending a little time making those custom tracksetta tools is beginning to pay off! Cheers, Ian.
I always hate preparing points for DCC, especially if the frog wire breaks. I sometimes think that is the kiss of death for a point as its unbelievably hard to solder a wire to that teeny weeny gap in the sleepers (as youve found). In my earlier days I bound insulfrog points as thats what my closest 2 model shops sold, but never again, trying to convert those to DCC, well... Hope your hand recovers soon.
Good morning John! Hopefully it isn't the kiss of death for the point, having intentionally broken the frog wires off myself! Lol! Yes, it is difficult to solder into that gap, but a thin tipped soldering tip, and a magnifying headset, really helps - oh, and practice! I can't imagine how difficult it would be to convert insulfrog points to electrofrog! Thanks! My hand has good and bad days, but does seem to be recovering slowly! All the best, Ian.
Hi Ian, good progress made, I wish they I had one of those track joiner tools when I was doing N Gauge it was a painful reminder! Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing trains running on the 'proper' track plan! Cheers Gary
Thanks Gary! Yes, those Rail Joiner Mate's are excellent! I think they do a OO version too, although I never had any problem with rail joiners when I used to work with OO track! Looking forward to seeing what you've been up to, hopefully sooner rather than later! :) All the best, Ian.
Thanks very much Stephen! It is indeed progressing, albeit slowly! I have good days and bad days with my hand, but think it's getting better, only just about as slowly as Shelfington is progressing! Lol! All the best, Ian.
Hi Ian, well a nice bit of progress there, I also see that you look like you know what you’re doing with a soldering iron! It looks like the tricky bit is coming together. I’ve finally got enough filming done to release an episode so that maybe out today but not definitely! Hope that hand gets better mate, i’m suffering a bit with tennis/golfing elbow which has hampered the amount of cutting I can do making the freighter ship, cheers for now mate, John
Good morning John! Thank you! Haha! Yeah, soldering is still a bit of a black art for me, but I've become comfortable with getting wires to attach to rails! Looking forward to your next episode! Hopefully I'll catch it later on today! My hand has good and bad days, but I think it's recovering, only slowly! Golfing elbow? I love it! Hope you recover soon too mate! I also hope that the saga of the new car was resolved! All the best, Ian.

Good morning Simon! I have absolutely no idea how long it will take - two or three years? The Tricky Bit at the back of the layout is a critical section, as it'll be difficult to change should I get it wrong! Things should speed up once I've got the inclines installed, which will be the next job after the Tricky Bit! Like I've said before, it's not a race, and the whole point of the hobby is to keep me amused well into retirement! All the best, Ian.
@@iansngauge Ian, it's a job worth doing well and taking slowly. Last thing you want is to rush and make a mistake you have to take up and start again. I'm on a break now until new year. Got a couple of jobs to do like painting but there will be no scenery until next year. This time it will be properly planned and detailed as much as my skill allows. Cheers
