What I enjoy most about this performance, besides the meeting of two vocal giants, is the intense concentration of attention and listening given Price and Pavarotti by the illustrious peformers behind them. No one loses interest for a moment of the performance, and quite a few of them get caught up in the thrill of the moment. Of course, quite a few of them are listening hard to pass judgement on Price. For contrast, watch them during the "Madama Butterfly" duet excerpt with Leona Mitchell and Giuliano Cianella. Despite the genuine appreciation shown at the end, there are many signs of fidgeting and loss of interest throughout.

And she was 56 years of age, asked to perform for the celebration on The Metropolitan Opera's Centennial just like Joan Sutherland, Birgit Nilsson and a host of other iconic singers.
This duet was the final duet of the evening before all the singers joined on stage to sing Happy Birthday to the Met, a most coveted position!
