It's ironic that Cain is mad at his parents for giving up the garden of eden "including his share" considering that his descendants also get punished for something he does
I think a major theme in the show is generational mistakes and repetition. You have to both stay true to yourself and learn from the mistakes of your ancestors. Another major part is that it's absolutely unfair the way most of the humans are treated. Father is angry at his "kids" for growing up, and takes it out on them. Cain is rightfully angry at Father, and while he does deserve to carry the weight of his own actions, notably, killing Abel, Father's cursing his entire lineage is vengeful and unfounded. This is another major point of the show- that he's not flawless. He is a character in the story; his arc is intertwined with the narrative. The climax occurs at his polar shift in attitude, one that resonates with anyone who's mentored or parented anyone else: you cannot prevent people from outgrowing you. It's hard, and it's angering, and you put *so much work* into them, but everyone grows up, changes, finds new people and new things. It's part of being human. It's the most important part of being human. You can't blame them for that.
[ABEL] Here we are your grateful children Please accept our sacrifice May you hear us and forgive us Bring us back to paradise [CAIN] All these years of this cruel joke The best harvest going up in smoke Praying for a future from these silent stony shelves How much more of this must we take This is the morning we finally make a future for ourselves! Hunter Foster is an underappreciated theater voice (he plays Abel and Ham in this production), especially since he lives in his sister Sutton's shadow. 😉 I first was introduced to his voice in the 2003 "Little Shop of Horrors" revival recording, but his work in "Urinetown" and "Frankenstein" is great.
I was honored the opportunity to play Abel in my teen camp's production of this show... It is a show that I will never forget! Thanks for posting this!
The highest note he hits is C#5 during the riff at 2:26, but that's just in passing. The highest sustained note is probably A4 which happens several times but most notably it's the power note at the very end. Hope this helps!
I have script of it the riff is not written in, it was an artistic choice, normally you would hold a G but I could be wrong considering he could have sung it in a different key

But Cain if it's God's will
[CAIN]
Is it God's will or have we all been conned
Brother we will never know
We will never grow
If we never go
Beyond
I never made this world, I didn't even lose it
And I know no one said it was fair
But they had a garden once
They had the chance to choose it
They gave it away including my share
And now we're lost in wilderness
Lost, crying in the wilderness
And if anyone's watching it seems they couldn't care less
We're lost wilderness
You follow all the rules
You swallow all the stories
And every night you wish on a star
Dreaming your day will come, trusting in allegories
And every morning boy look where you are
Lost in the Wilderness
Lost, slowly dying in the wilderness
With no chance of living boy, until you confess
You're lost in the wilderness
Don't you ever watch the eagle fly to the sun
And wonder how he got to be so free
If you ever have you know your journey's begun
Hey what've we got to lose boy, when already we are
Lost in the wilderness
And where we are headed boy, I couldn't guess but
Off we go without a warning
Running as we hit the ground
Where our future lies a-borning
Where our hearts are outward bound
Till one bright and distant morning
We may stop and look around
And there in the wilderness
Finally we'll be found!

HUNTER FOSTER! I was also first introduced to him in Little Shop. Gosh I love Children of Eden too
Finally a production besides Joseph that makes the Bible sound cool.
Never heard of Jesus christ superstar?
Jesus christ superstar
That isn't sacreligious.
Godspell
I’m playing Cain for my school’s production of Children of Eden and listening I’m excited
RIP guy who played Abel in the production I was in.
Ironic, I know.
I feel so bad for laughing at this comment-
Love this song!
2:07 to 2:32 is maybe my favorite part of any song of any musical ever made. 25+ years with this musical and it still gives me chills.
I just got cast as Cain in a production!
I was honored the opportunity to play Abel in my teen camp's production of this show... It is a show that I will never forget! Thanks for posting this!
Y
I like the song
I was in this play
Who is Cain is this production? Does anyone know?
darius dehaas
Aren't we all lost in the wilderness
am I the only person who has this sheet music as a whole step lower than it's sung in this recording?
This recording is a whole step higher than the original key. This recording is in A major, the song was originally in G Major.
Yeah it is
2:23
2:54
The roottrees send their regards
Does anyone know the highest note in this song?

Michael Robinson right before the C#5 riff is a b4 sustained so even higher
I have script of it the riff is not written in, it was an artistic choice, normally you would hold a G but I could be wrong considering he could have sung it in a different key
I can never find a karaoke track of this song in this key.
Cain went on the form the band Rascal Flatts.
