Mr. McWhorter is the person you should follow if you want to learn Arduino. 4 years ago I knew nothing about Arduino IDE and today I have several CNC machines and things controlled by Microcontrollers that wouldn't exist today if I had not watched his Arduino for Beginner Videos years ago. Also that is when I got the taste for iced coffee :-) I'm going to order the Sunfounder kit Kit and join his Patreon as a thank you ... Also going to watch these New videos because I learn something every time I watch his videos. His past videos taught far more than just Arduino. Well Done Mr. McWhorter!!
If you are drinking Iced Coffee, then I will say, Mission Accomplished.
I agree I bought the same kit he had and followed every lesson. He took my math to another level that I didn’t even think possible. I failed every math class I ever took because I was stubborn and thought I would never use it. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Now as an adult I love math.
I am thinking you need engineering (like taken a class like automotive engineering) knowledge plus Arduino be equipped to use a CNC machine
I agree
Absolutely agree
I was starting the 'old' series (built a simple text-to-morse with the first lessons and was super fun) and I'll definetly switch here to follow the pace of the class. Thank you so much for all the effort put in this project! Hugs from Spain ☀️
I have an R4 WiFi on order. I am glad Paul will be doing a series on the new board. I've been through most of the Uno R3 series & built some of the projects. An Arduino board like the R4 but with more IO would be great for more complex projects (like the Mega).
Sounds great!
Awesome work as usual sir! One of the few folks who can speak to subject at a base level without making it boring or infantilizing!
I have never use a arduino till yesterday when my son gave me one to play with. I was extremely overwhelmed about everything regarding the arduino. I watched lots of videos but still was overwhelmed. Watching 1 episode from Paul and I am feeling more confident and looking forward to my first project. Thank you 🙏
That is awesome!
Thank you from Norway.
I have seen most of your Arduino lessons "Great work".
Looking forward to the R4 series.
Keep up, I love your work😊
Paul I LOVE your stuff, I expect to come back to study this in maybe a year when I get a Rev 4 wifi. I am now using my Uno R3 in earnest, driving motors and using sensors, all started well by studying your initial Arduino beginner lessons. Much appreciated. You are a top guy, and as a professional engineer myself (mech) I appreciate your background and deep knowledge. Cheers.
Great first lesson Paul! Even though I took your previous Arduino lessons I don't consider myself an expert at this by any means. I'm always hoping to learn something new.
Thank you for your efforts dude. I’m on lesson 14 of the uno 3 class you did 4 years ago. I don’t have a lot of knowledge about this type of thing but I’m learning and appreciate a man like you. Your course is very thorough.
So lucky to have content such as this on You tube. Lucky to have this right at home too. TY
IT IS VERY GOOD to START from the beginning so everyone will be on the same playing field! It is a good review if you already have learned some things! no one will be left out!
Excellent..! I bought R4 wifi and started with your first lesson. It worked for me..!
Thank you Paul. I'm so grateful for you sharing your knowledge.
Lecture was amazingly fun to watch... and I'm never going back to hot coffee!. Thank you so much :) I'll share what I build by following the class
Never going back to hot coffee? . . . Mission Accomplished.
Great video for someone getting started using an arduino. Thanks a lot.
Great class. I was able to pick up blinking at 16mS.
I did your last Arduino course, and I'm back for this one. The UK Amazon doesn't have the SunFounder kit, so my new one is coming from Amazon USA, and should be here in a couple of weeks. In the mean time I'm using my UNO R3, to keep up with the course. Many thanks.
I have ordered my kit and will join in latter in the series I am please to see your starting at absolute beginners level I started back in your first Arduino Tutorials.
Ordering asap..Looking forward to the speaker and pump tutorial
Thank you so much for the amazing video's you make Paul.
Firstly thanks for this great video. It is well put together. One thing I would like to add to this for other users is: If you save a sketch, but there is a spelling error or you miss a ';' semi-colon but do not re-save it but try and run it, you will get the same error again. You need to upload the updated script again to make the changes live. Now looking forward to carrying on your other tutorials. The aim is to lear to control multiple servos (12 in total) that form the hip and leg of a four legged service drone I have designed in Fusion 360. To get to this I need to learn how to master basic coding and working the Arduino Uno R4 and using the onboard wi-fi/bluetooth connection.
You are amazing Mr. Mcwhorter
I'm going back over the previous series as I seem to have forgotten nearly everything. Good thing that the new series is 'for beginners'
I LOVE YOU PAUL, Thank you for see me as a baby learner with no knowledge to Embeding stuff
Finally pulled the plug and ordered a kit to join everyone in this video series after watching a bunch of the aurduino lessons from years ago.
Having a heck of a time getting started , first got a Samsung chromebook then realized you can't run arduino ide on that platform then went and got a windows laptop . Apparently I can't run the program because it's in s mode. Was able to download the program but whenever I try to run it nothing happens
Update: finally figured it out and got the ide to run after several hours. Turns out windows 11 s mode becomes a big pain when it comes to installing anything non-microsoft
You've been the motivation I needed for a long long time. I remember watching your arduino vids back in college! Glad to see you've upgraded these videos with the R4 wifi version! Its funny cause the last time I watched your vids I was in college and now I've been an electrical engineer for over 6 years haha! Never too late to start where I left off!
Glad to hear it!
Btw I dont think I have the time to upload vids for the assignments but do you have an email that i could ask you questions or share my findings/ submit assignments to? I understand these assignments are for the sake of practice but I respect your time and would def accept your feedback in anything 👍@@paulmcwhorter
Thank you Paul! You are very good teacher! May God Bless you!
You too!
My built-in LED broke during my move! So I'm using pin 13 and a 220 ohm resistor for this lesson... Use bubble wrap next time Josh!!!
it's a great lesson and you are a great teacher.
I agree.
An we are off! so excited! love the hints in the comments on some great teaching tools.
Thanks Mr McWhorter good job.
Hey Paul McWhorter, I'm a 2nd year computer engineering student and I recently finished the 68 episode arduino series and I want to let you know that I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot from the series and I am now looking to build a sumobot with a group of friends for a competition hosted by my school. I am super thankful of your arduino lessons and will continue to build new projects. I've recently been looking to do AVR programming on Arduino but problem is that I couldn't find a single guide that provides good lessons. Also, it would be nice if you could start doing guides on an STM32 microcontroller because I believe that they are super cool and are heavily used in various industries. While it is cool seeing you doing arduino guides with beginners, I hope that you consider my request and do a guide on AVR programming and STM32 as that would help out intermediates/advanced people.
Thank you Paul!
Thanks for the great lesson. Although I really like the PicoW, it's good to be getting back to the Arduino and C++ again.
Great Show!
I'm ordering mine asap. I'll have to catch up
Paul you are a legend
Hi Paul, I absolutely love your teaching style, if possible please start a series on C++ for beginners
Well in a way Paul is teaching C++, because that is the programming language we program the Arduino with.
There is nothing like working 10 hours and then eating dinner while watching an Arduino tutorial. I am an intermediate as you probably know, should I do this easy homework, I am not complaining about you starting at the basics of Arduino, for I once was there. I am just wondering. love the tutorial, Thank you, Paul🙂🙂🙂
Thanks Paul
today, you came back with Arduino R3. Thank you professor, about 4 years ago, I got the first lessons with Arduino R4. I have to get the kit and see what I can learn new things. s this new class different than the previous one? I will find out. Thank you
Paul actually looks like Peter Gabriel which is weird but funny at the same time, like listening one a the biggest rock star legend teaching you how to program on Arduino!
But I have hair.
@@paulmcwhorter true! :)
Excited about this! The LCD matrix interests me, and using that and the serial port to Python at the same time. WIFI also!. Maybe be one of these two functions outside the class or part of it. I am part-time teaching 1st and second and 4th to 6th. 4th to six is all Arduino. Pay is super low (compared to programming) but worth it. I am using a lot of your teaching style and kids love it. So you are teaching a teacher who teaches the next generation. here is one of the classes and I could not have done i without your classes. "Hands-On Electronics For grades 4-7/Ages 9-13
wiring diagram
Tinker with electronics while learning the basics of computer programming. We begin by experimenting with the fundamentals of electronics and circuitry, and step up to projects where our class of young makers will design their own interactive and programmable devices. Participants use the latest tools including Arduino (for building interactive devices) and Raspberry Pi (for learning about computers and coding) to experiment with LEDs, resistors, motors, and programming. Each class day gives participants the chance to design a hands-on project with the guidance of skilled Circuit Lab instructors
It is my dream to become a teacher that teaches robotics and electronic engineering. However, I need to get better at electronic engineering and learn Spanish because I live in a foreign country called Ecuador. But I know the children here in the Amazon rainforest would love it. So maybe Paul is teaching another upcoming teacher. I agree with your style of teaching, I call it "The Paul McWhorter style" lol. Which is a good way to teach students.
If you are teaching it can be useful also to use simulators - I used TinkerCad when I was teaching arduino as well as just hands-on with the hardware in lectures - it is super good as you can set up classrooms and view students circuits and code online , modify things and show things and the students who want to can work at home even if they do not have the kit.
@@patrickfox-roberts7528 Tinkercad looks like a ton of fun! I will be using this! THANK YOU!
WOW! Built the blink and works great. No replacement for hands on, BUT it will allow kids who do not have a system to be able to take school projects and experiment with them. thanks again . Going to be a great course and love the fact we can exchange ideas in the comments.
can't wait
I like that plastic tray!
Glad you're back!!! ...are you plan MicroPython Arduino lessons!!! Thanks
No, teaching micropython on pico pi, not the arduino.
@paulmcwhorter I can't wait till you cover RFID. I took both tags from my kit and placed them one at a time on my laptop's track pad and their presence was detected by my laptop, just like my android phone. There is something to be read there.
amazing!!!
Super helpful
I'm running 2.3.1 and that is 3 weeks after you downloaded the lesson!
I wish there was a teacher like you that could do an LCD TFT screen setup everybody shows you how to use one and what to do but they don't teach you how to write your own code or write some form of code for the LCD TFT screen
Hi Paul. So pleased you are doing more videos. I have tried to learn about the ESP8266 but can't find any simple teaching aids so am hoping this wifi board will be the answer. The minimum delay seems around 14ms but it is notable that looking slightly to one side of the LED shows it pulse whereas looking straight at it the pulse is barely visible. Just about the limits of what the eye/brain can deal with I guess?
Good job. keep it up.
RATS! I forgot about the livestream today. Sorry I missed your first day.
Good news everyone "in the voice of the professor from futurama"
Nice to see an update Arduino lesson, i bought one so i can follow,
one thing i would say, Can we stay away from the Delay function and only use the Millis,
Because as our sketches get bigger and we need more functions, it becomes awkward converting a Delay sketch.
as these R4 boards are more powerful so we could move onto more functional Sketches
anyway just my thought
Right now Paul is teaching the basics of Arduino. It would be difficult for the new guys to follow along if Paul started these lessons by talking about the Millis function. I hope Paul will talk about the Millis function soon in the future, but not right now.
assalam alleykoum , i'm one of the student in second years mechanical engineering , , i great you sir
Thanks!
Thanks, really appreciate that!
Aproximately 2 months it was out of stock. About a week ago the Sunfounder Kit has arrived. The IDE 2.2.1 was already not for download available. The new IDE 2.3.2 did not work: Not connected and no port! I did try this with the "USB bridge" and the "Update" very often, but still the same: Not connected and no port ! But the old tutorials I could make with success, Hans from Germany !
Now I have it working: COM3 😀
I love your stuff and I so badly want to do this as I am struggling greatly with C+. Can you tell me what days you will be releasing these videos
Legend
LEGEND!
Hi all in the UK, if you are looking for the SunFounder Elite Explorer Kit with Official Arduino Uno R4 WiFi kit in the UK, Sunfouder have stock at £76 ($96), and no shipping fee. Not sure of delivery time.
Amazon UK is still not showing any stock
14ms! that light looked almost like its wobbling. At 13ms i found the light to be consistent.
Mr. McWhorter I purchased the smart car robot v4.0 w/Camera I am having no success with the coding. The error message is you have not declared int or pinMode in the scope. Since I am using a different version ...can I make modification to make it compatible to your instructions. Also I subscribe to TopTechBoys as well.
i'm trying to keep up with you. i'm on windows. (march 18-2024) hope i get to the 2.2.1when my kit come.
It looks like I am about a month behind, and not able to post videos at this time. Doing my homework I got down to about 15ms where it was more of a slight flicker for me. 17ms was a good blink.
Hello, I do not know if you still remember me but I used to watch you all the time when I was in high school ( I was home-schooled) I believe that I went by the time Ohioteentech or VisionaryRobotics. I just finished my junior year of mechanical engineering and I have an internship at an aerospace company over the summer. I want to say thank you for all of the great knowledge that you have taught me and all of the excitement toward engineering I had with your videos. I have limited time but I want to start watching your videos. Do you recommend I watch this series or the raspberry pi pico series? Thank you so much!
Certainly I remember you. We have missed you being active on the channel, and glad to hear you are doing well. Hope you will watch the video series on this channel on how to be a successful engineer. Lots of important information in that series.
Thank you professor. Is this new class different than the last one using R3?
The R4 has new capabilities, so we will be showing how to use those. Some things are similar to the old series
Hi Paul, looking forward to arduino R4 lessons, your link to Amazon UK is showing SunFounder Ultimate Sensor Kit with Original Arduino Uno R4 Minima kit, I thought it should have been SunFounder Ultimate Sensor Kit with Original Arduino Uno R4 WIFI kit.
The link is to the US kit with R4 WiFi. Perhaps when you were redirected to the UK it sent you to a similar but not identical kit, and perhaps the WiFi is not yet in the UK. Definitely hold out for the WiFi version.
oh man, waiting for the right Arduino board sucks.😩
At 12ms on/off I could tell the LED was much dimmer... At 13ms on/off I could see it blinking if I was close to the PCB.
Wow.... 10 people did not like the video?... what kind of people they are?
Hey paul, at the time of writing this, Arduiono IDE 2.3.2 is available, how can I find the Arduino IDE 2.2.1?
running late but still here
Hello Paul! I’m new on your site, I love it! How can I get a hold of you regarding my invention?
Just a few questions
Private Freddy reporting for duty... After going AWOL for around 7 months hehe . Hello Paul! hope your electricity problem is solved by now... I have an issue with my board, is not resetting after uploading sketches!, gotta push reset button almost every time an upload ends... Using Arduino IDE 2.2.1 on MacOS Sonoma... Haven't tried with my Arduino UNO clone to check if the issue happens on that board too, cause, to be honest, I cannot remember where is it.
If you can't restart your Arduino by pressing the button there is another way. you can use a pin in the power pins called reset, all you need to do is connect the reset pin to one of the GND pins on the Arduino and then wait just a little bit, and disconnect it, and then the Arduino will reset, it takes a little longer but it works. I hope that helps. If you have any more questions please comment and I will try to answer.
I have the Arduino mega 2560 kit, and was watching your previous videos from four years ago. I just started a week ago, and just now found this new set of videos. Would you recommend I watch these new ones or continue with the old videos?
Probably best to do the old lessons as your arduino is more like the R3 than R4.
@@paulmcwhorter I appreciate the response! I am really enjoying how effectively you explain everything in your videos so far btw, Great videos! Thanks so much for this most excellent resource and keep up the good work with the videos! Been a pleasure
Will arduino UNO R4 Wifi support being a web server WITHOUT any connection to a computer, it's IDE or any cloud? I want to use an R4 to collect data from machine sensors and report that data on a web page it has onboard while being connected to a local wifi network... I can't get it to function without being connected to a computer with the IDE installed...????
Hey, Paul i got a question i just recently came across your videos and have to yet complete the previous videos so my question to you is that should start this course with you and buy the kit or would i require some prior knowledge based on the Arduino 3 videos what do i do???
This new class starts from the start and basics. Might be good to move to this new class if you can.
Do the newer videos, you will have more modern Arduino version and there is no prior knowledge required for this series
@@HaseebAdnan0 The new Arduino lessons start at the basics and are of better quality and I think will cover more things than the older lessons did. So my opinion is that you should continue the older lessons until these newer lessons get to things you do not understand too much.
I was able to see a fast blinking at 14mS.
I did figure it out. so thanks, what else can we do. april 3 2024
Sir Arduino IDE Com port is not recognizing the USB cable .Kindly share me how to connect.
Re: Arduino Uno R4 Wifi. Is it possible to participate in a ROS2 environment using WiFi rather than using rosserial and the UART? If so, how?
Does anyone know what is loaded on the Uno R4 WIFI out of the box? I would like to take a look at the code.
hi im having trouble finding the older 2.2.1 ide does anyone know where to download it?
You can find it on github here:
github.com/arduino/arduino-ide/releases/tag/2.2.1
I could pick up blinking at 16ms
Getting a bit ahead, but I am trying to use the 'Arduino_LED_Matrix.h' but it it keeps giving me a 'no such file or directory' error message and I can't find the library anywhere. I'm sure you will want to cover this at some point.
Solved - Have to go to board>boards Manager and install Uno R4 WiFi, just in case you get any perplexed students :)
Hey Mr. McWhorter, I don't know if you will see this comment, but I need help connecting a port to the Arduino. Every time I connect the Arduino Uno R4 WIFI to my computer, the port option is greyed out. However, when I connect an older Arduino board, the port option comes back. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this problem?
please add I2C. ordering my kit ASAP.
PLS SIR HOW DO I INTERFACE THE ARDUINO WITH AN HMI AND A VFD
16ms is where I start to see a very fast flicker.
By the way: 16 ms is around 62 Hz. I always wonder why some guys can see more then 120Hz on their display if many can only see around 60 - 70 Hz if they watch a blinking LED.
good job!
Looking to start this series. What programming language is used?
Something like C++
Great Paul but we cant get this kit from Amazon in the uk so I do not know where to go now.
@@charlotteswift I've been there again and it does not show the WIFI version only the ultimate sensor kit
@@bigbear333uk1 try searching for 'sunfounder elite r4 wifi'. Amazon's search engine can be very thick sometimes.
It is sold out
o connect and read PT100 temperature sensor
Lets have a delay to be able to see it?
I wish I could watch these lessons while they are live but I am working when they are live. To bad for me.😭😭😭
where are you now i'm still on the r3
PAUL what is with the Sunfounder Elite kit it is not available from Amazon? MY kit ordered on the 10jan23 has not even been shipped! Other students may have problem, I have R4 WIFI and alot of parts that will be needed. hope you find out what is going on.GOOD NEWS my kit has shipped and is expected tomorrow ( ordered on JAN. 10,2023 ),.
When my review dropped, the sunfounder kits sold out almost immediately. The issue right now is availability of the Arduino R4s. They are very much back logged right now.
@@paulmcwhorter Wow, that's amazing!!! How many kits did you sell?
Always what happens when a new Arduino comes out is that everyone runs to the sites where the new Arduino is being sold and cleans it all off the shelves. Surprisingly, the Arduino R4 came out 6 months ago, and there is still a shortage. That tells how big this Arduino is.
In Germany it is not available too. But I was able to order one Kit from the US. Bit it‘s 13$ more
@@BerndRenzing Any Arduino kit will do, just note that you may not be able to do all the projects in the lessons.
Dear Paul,
How do you record these lessons?
You have yourself visible, your computer screen and your bench you are writing and working on visible in the same screen?
How do you toggle between computer screen and work bench in the video?
What is your video, sound, light and editing setup?
I want to record Arduino lessons in my native language of Urdu, for my 4, 5, 6 & 7 Graders!
Kindly guide and tell!?
I would really be grateful!
Best Regards,

Pakistan.
I use wirecast as my software. YOu have to purchase it, but OBS is a similar free studio software. Will do all I do in these videos.
... or that fancy power supply ?
Could I still do these lessons with the Uno R3? Or do I need the R4 WiFi?
The earlier playlist on the arduino on this channel might be a better option as I am using an R3 on that set of lessons.
Thanks.
you should change it too "less time playing video games" and using your brain!
