  • "My family's recipe for the fantastic traditional Portuguese soup! The version we make has kale - while a lot of other recipes use greens. Both are wonderful!"
Welcome to "Honest Portuguese with Don Santos", his first episode! A regular guy with a big personality who loves all things Portuguese and all things associated with food, Don will be sharing his personal cooking experiences he's learned from family and friends over the years. It will be neither the exact traditions from the homeland nor exotic fusions of various new ingredients... it will be Don's version, true and through. Enjoy!
    EPISODE 1: Caldo Verde
A traditional and popular dish - Caldo Verde is a Portuguese potato and kale soup topped with thinly sliced Portuguese linguica. Let Don share his cooking style along with his opinion of what he 'really' thinks of kale.
Don't miss Don's 'Confessional' at the end of the show.

Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe. I’ll have to cook for somebody with no teeth soon, so that’s going to be more flavorful for the person ☺️
I’ll look for more ‘caldos’ around RUclips.

OMG! I actually belly laughed for a minute or two when you completed the secondary kale recipe.
I also like the recipe which calls to add coconut oil to the pan when ever you’re cooking kale because it helps it slide out of the pan, into the garage quicker. 🤣

Leftover Kale: sprinkle with inferior olive oil, douse with unknown spice, mix well - and dump in trash. LOL!

We always made a huge pot of soup, and it never lasted more than a day in the fridge! It was always a race to the kitchen to get the leftovers lol. We always used linguica and chuorico when we make ours.

Great recipe. Can't wait to cook it. I've always loved this soup when i had it out - both in Portugal and in Brazil. I'm curious if there are any slight differences in the recipes between the two countries.

I love this soup and I make a lot of times but please don't call it "traditional" because it is not. But thanks for sharing your version
