"Honest Portuguese" Vovo Santos' Family Portuguese Breakfast
Don, this is a great video.
🎉I like your style for cooking this soup
That’s definitely not new English style kale soup that my Vavo made . I love kale soup.
That’s the way Calder
Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe. I’ll have to cook for somebody with no teeth soon, so that’s going to be more flavorful for the person ☺️ I’ll look for more ‘caldos’ around RUclips.
bonus recipe, hahaha!
I remember those jugs carlo rossi lots of them under my vavas bed
And yes the king of sausage absolutely
Aww cool If I heard u correctly he said vuvu 😊this makes me happy lol I know silly but I thought my family was the only ones that learned it and I ain't trying to say this disrespectful at all I love it we learned incorrectly on how to say grandpa I was told that is it's actually avu and avó or some to that extent my family has always said vuvu vava and so even Portuguese people ask what is vuvu and vava and we learned fizoles and I barely found out I guess it's supposed to be malasadas so I don't when you refer to who u did it brings memories I don't hear those words at all unless it's my immediate family and we are all grown and in our own locations and working so unless I hear it from myself I don't really hear them at all I loved my vuvu and vava very much they were a big part of my life until I became a adult and unfortunately made poor decisions I live with it every day how I wish I could have been there to take care of them when they were passing I should of been there and I wasn't anyhow it is bittersweet to have heard those words from someone else other than myself maybe weird but yeah the memories are always sweet with them and the bitter is the fact I wasn't there
I'm Portuguese and have never seen or eaten anything like this. I'm sure it must be good!
That second kale recipe is even worse than Jamie Oliver.
Keep up the good work!
I have made this many times. I’m a portagee from Hawaii and spent time in the kitchen with my Tutu and Papi …generally speaking we pocho people on the Big Island do everything you do, but we also put kale into the soup. My papi said his mom and dad swore by it. At any rate, I li e in Spokane now and was wondering if you guys still do this show here?
we are taking a break from the show a few months,my camera man has had other projects. We are in Spokane aslo.
A shank guy? 😂😂😂😂
Just found your video through a friend. You have such a likable personality and I enjoyed your video so much! Looking forward to seeing your other videos. I make torresmos at Christmas time. My mom and dad have both passed away, and I do my best to make my mom’s dishes during the holidays.
Ma per favore…
My whole family is Portuguese, but I was born, and live, in SA. These bifanas are not just a hit, but making them makes me feel proud. Wonderful video, underrated channel
I love this soup and I make a lot of times but please don't call it "traditional" because it is not. But thanks for sharing your version
thanks for the comment. Have a great Day!!
Where did ya go ??!!!?
ha, regrouping. thanks for asking.
good video. but the Porto style bifana is still missing, which is completely different from Lisbon
Why waist the olive oil if you are tossing the rest of the kale in the trash 🤣😂😂😂
I'm Portugese and I have never seen or heard of this!
We always made a huge pot of soup, and it never lasted more than a day in the fridge! It was always a race to the kitchen to get the leftovers lol. We always used linguica and chuorico when we make ours.
Bro why I don't say .my roots are from Portugal? But the way I did the soup come out great thanks
Pork “Boston” butt is pork shoulder
We do make great food
That was a faecitious move to season and bin the Kale, you aren't Gordon Ramsay mate
Love from Macao, gonna try your way of doing it.
Why not use Portuguese wine?
Looks delicious, thank you for sharing!
Don I just watched this with my 89 year old Portuguese mom and we both loved it. You come across as down to earth and lovable. Thx for being such a proud Portuguese and making us proud.
I'm glad you and your Mom enjoyed it. Have a wonderful Easter.
looks really great; thank you!
Thank you so much for spreading our culture!! I believe positive and great culture, food, and art are meant to be shared. So grateful!
Very good thank you for the recipe 🥰🙏
OMG! I actually belly laughed for a minute or two when you completed the secondary kale recipe. I also like the recipe which calls to add coconut oil to the pan when ever you’re cooking kale because it helps it slide out of the pan, into the garage quicker. 🤣
haha, I'll have to try that one. Have a great day.
I know, absolutely passed my coffee through my nose when he did that. 😂😂😂
I cannot wait to make this tomorrow morning for my breakfast. I also can't believe I have everything in house, including the Portuguese Olive Oil and Linguica. I need to ask you about the coffee my Portuguese Papa would have, a mug of hot coffee, a bowl, 1 egg, csm of evaporated milk, sugar. Papa would crack the egg into the bowl, beat with a fork add the hot coffee, sugar and evaporated milk. I loved it and to this day I buy a can of evaporated milk and have Papa Mello's coffee. He was born on the Island of Graciosa! Salute!!!
Yes Portuguese make good food. Is this torresmos also known as the salt beef? My sons grandma would make this salt beef in chunks and it was so delicious she also made a meat spread with it....to die for
Great recipe. Can't wait to cook it. I've always loved this soup when i had it out - both in Portugal and in Brazil. I'm curious if there are any slight differences in the recipes between the two countries.
There are many Portuguese Ham and Bean Soup recipes. The smoked shanks do have a lot more meat. I use more hocks (2-20) and I do keep the skin. I also add smoked ham or leftover ham bones. I prefer to use dry beans and soak them overnight and Portuguese bean soup here almost always has cabbage. Portuguese sausage is easy to get in Hawaii. I like the hot ones for the soup since it will have more flavor. Instead of water, I either use chicken broth or ham stock to cook the hocks. It saves time to pressure cook the hocks or if time is not a problem, then I can use the slow cooker to cook the soup overnight. Macaroni is in a lot of the recipes here, but I don't like it. I rather eat the soup with Portuguese sweet bread or buns. Finish the soup with some cilantro or parsley. Cabbage can make the soup sour, so I prefer to substitute with watercress when it is in season. Portuguese pickled onions are great on the side as well.
great, what a wonderful comment you left. thank you
Don't let the Italians and Spaniards hear you say Portuguese has the best Olive oil. 😂😂😂😂 Me: I'm sticking with My ANCESTORS Olive Oil The Portuguese olive oil that's my story and I'm sticking to it. L❤VE FROM CAPE VERDI ISLAND FOGO 😘😘😘😘
awesome, me too!
Excellent recipe
Leftover Kale: sprinkle with inferior olive oil, douse with unknown spice, mix well - and dump in trash. LOL!
Thanks for sharing this with us! I’m going to make this for my kids. They love all the Portuguese food
Yummy, what part of the northwest do you live. We are in Bend Oregon.
Grew up in Oakland and Boston. I have lived in Spokane for A couple decades now. I love Bend such a great place.
I've watched all of your videos, and this is my favorite. Not only does the meal look great, but I see and hear the connection with your dad-pretty cool how food lives forever in our memories and connects to people in our lives or those we have lost. I'm gonna try this one. Mouth watering watching.
thanks, I started doing these videos so I can tell my families story through our food. One day when I'm gone my family can watch them and then pass down to their family. Have a wonderful day and thanks for the response.
Love...your take on this very 🇵🇹traditional Portuguese soup 🍲 I have to disagree with you On the kale 🥬 but I totally get that.. not everyone’s into it!! 😊
yummy!!!!!
Who else looked up Portuguese breakfast because it's in sao bloopers
me
Me because. Of european gigolo 🤣
Lol
My mom always made toresmos on the stove top. I have started making mine in the oven. So much easier although it’s a long process. I use traditional pepper paste in the marinade. I enjoyed your video
I like stovetop, but I really love the long cooked oven method. Both are great
Yes I was wondering where is the pementa lol
