Bellary is not in Kerala, but in Karnataka (northern side, closer to Hyderabad or Bombay than to Cochin). I understand your confusion because they seem to have done a mix-up of everything when about this location. Temple and temple related rites looked like those from Kerala and Southwestern Karnataka, but houses and village landscape are much close to what can be seen in "general" Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. When about the culture of the people (costume, way of life, etc.), there too mix of Kerala, Karnataka/Andhra Pradesh/Tamil Nadu, but also Northern India ! (Diwali celebrations depicted here are totally opposite to the traditional/conservative way actually celebrated in the South). But whatever the way they depicted that Bellary, the true Bellary isn't and can not look like this ! Because Bellary is in the middle of the Deccan, with way more drier conditions. Bellary looks more like hinterland Maharashtra (especially to the Marathwada) and Telangana (also with the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh). Both in cultural and physical aspects. Never think of indigenous and minimalist cultivation of Basmati or any water-soaking varieties of rice here. Rice cultivation happens only in the Doab regions, now also beside them due to river dams and canals. Millets, sorghum, and other grains of these kinds used to be the dominant crops of the area. Edit : According to Wikipedia, the fictional location wasn't Bellary, Karnataka, but "Bilari", Moradabad District, UP !!!

I don't know, what kind of addiction is that.
