"Where risks and technical issues were identified early but disregarded because people didn't want their project to be derailed", spot on.

It's great to get both the speech and the context of what was done about it. More of that. Thank you

Who could ever forget DMO, was an ongoing cluster of debacles and financial waste!

He’s correct. But defence is driven by huge egos. Also constantly posting people means no one’s responsible. Ironic observations given his team was in charge for a long time before Labor was. The generals and their APS equivalents operate in the Canberra bubble and always have an eye on the next gig. Look at the Robodebt evidence to see them buck, squirm, blame shift, ingratiate themselves with their political staffers etc. defence is no different

David fixing this will only happen once quite a few heads roll.
The trouble is culture which starts at the top and the majority of personnel looking after themselves first and Australia last. We need professional engineers not defence flunkeys doing this job.

Keep at them Senator. We can't afford to give these 'leaders' a free pass.

Super Sea Sprite project. This was the project to source a 6 tonne helicopter for the proposed OPV build with Malaysia that never went ahead (a political determination rather than a strategic determination). The project where a helicopter choice (Lynx) was still being new built whilst the Super Sea Sprite were languishing in the desert (layed up). A helicopter that was then announced as being built to be used on the ANZAC class (when the ANZAC class was built to have the SeaHawk 9 tonne helicopter). a billion dollar cock up.......

Trouble there are so many lockups it’s almost impossible to name even 1 project that delivered. When specs are wrong and cost and time not properly considered we get arse-covering as the exhibited mode amongst Defence personnel. We need independent professional engineers doing this work. Not a bunch of uniforms worried about career paths.🤦🏼‍♂️

Who are we going to fight? Who is threatening Australia? Who is going to make commissions from the defence industry? There is no need for spending for a force that won't be used.

Another layer of Political oversight and they wonder why nothing get done on time. If the politicians stopped making stupid decisions in the first place defence might have a chance.
