    Yahtzee did hit it on the nose when he said you needed the expanded universe stuff to understand the plot of Halo, but if you actually play them in order(not start with three and not play the others) it still has a coherent story. Destiny has no story. it has backstory and thats it.

      Destiny's story kinda feels like Dark Souls 2-- "Shit's old and we don't know why it's here", but with even less answered questions and more allusions to cooler events that we don't learn about. The Speaker even says "I could tell you of the great battle centuries ago", and I couldn't help but reply "Then do so, because it'd probably be cooler than listening to you being vague as fuck".

      SilverARyuu Reminds me of Prince of Persia 2008. All sorts of lore about this big war between light and darkness, and we're cleaning up what amounts to a supernatural oil spill.

    • @edge6115
      @edge6115 10 лет назад +2

      SilverARyuu Yeah I felt like that about ds2 as well. The lore behind it is really great but unless youre stopping to research every item and character you find in the game youre not going to have any idea what the hell is going on. Id group halo more with ds1 though because enough of the story elements are explained in game for you to know what youre doing and why youre doing it but if you really want to get into it the out of game lore can provide you with a lot more story and context.

    • @SilverKing56
      @SilverKing56 10 лет назад +9

      Yeah, DS2 and Destiny seem to attempt to catch "lightning in a bottle" from their previous games. It's doubly bad with the "lore" of Destiny because you can't even access it in-game, which is a load of bunk honestly.

    So, the late game is broken right now. Not that's news but here's my problem.
    I'm a level 28 hunter who needs about 30 ascendant shards more to level up my gear to the max. The only way to reliably get those shards is to play one public event a day with all three of "characters".
    As a reward you can get ascendant shards, ascendant energy or strange coins. So if i say that 33% of the time i get that needed shard. That means that i can get 1 shard a day by playing 3 different characters to take part in 3 public events reliably.
    So, by my calculations i have to play this game for a month, maybe for an hour every day JUST to level my gear that i currently have.
    And, if and when i find gear that's better than what i now have? Another 1-2 months grind?
    No thanks Bungie.
    While i've enjoyed the gameplay and feel of the controls, the lack of story, the grinding and all the other problems, i've had enough. Maybe i'll return to it later to see if they've managed to clear the mess they've made, but now i'm just waiting for Shadow of Mordor to unlock on my PS4.

    • @XX_Apexfury_XX
      @XX_Apexfury_XX 10 лет назад +6

      oryou could apply those frontal lobes, google ways to get them and discover that OMG doing the daily gets you 2 more =D then theres the weekly raid. + another 4-12 shards finally you can get them from engrams so for most thats another 1 mabye 2 shards OMG so many shards =D a whole 8-20 shards for one day =O

    • @MrMRMONKEY232
      @MrMRMONKEY232 10 лет назад +5

      You can get them from doing more than one event. I've done 3 in one day each giving shards or energy. Theres also a daily challenge that will give two or one based on materials. And with the patch coming this week the chance of getting them or legendaries to break down is inceeased. Its still gonna take a while bo doubt and is annoying but it won't take a month. Unless the games rng hatea you

    • @markotark
      @markotark 10 лет назад +17

      Kye Jarvis Yes i know there are other ways to get more, let's go through why they don't work for me.
      "OMG doing the daily gets you 2 more "
      Yes, 2 more shards or the useless energy that i don't really need to make my guns any better.
      And i can only play it on that one main character the other two are at level 7 and i won't be grinding them up anymore than they go up by playing the bare minimum.
      "then theres the weekly raid."
      That i've soloed ONCE, as i don't have friends to go do them with on PS4.
      "finally you can get them from engrams so for most thats another 1 mabye 2 shards OMG so many shards =D a whole 8-20 shards for one day =O"
      I've had about 10 purple drops over my 80 hours of playing the game. You know how many have given me purple gear?
      2!!! One gun and one armor piece and i'm using both at the moment.
      Oh, how i would love to get gear that i could dismantle for shards, but not getting any is just another way of showing how the game is broken.
      So, the dailies with one character and the publics with 3 and with the chance of getting other materials on all of them the average amount of shards i can get in a day is about 1 or 2 at the most.
      So shut up about those claims of 8-20 shards a day. Maybe if the Queens rewards dismantle was in play, i could have seen such amounts, but now?
      No way in hell...

    • @XX_Apexfury_XX
      @XX_Apexfury_XX 10 лет назад +1

      markotark heres ways to resolve those issues. make friends either in game or online, party up and have fun. the game was meant to be played with a team. its a basic shoot them up FPS no better than CoD on its own. there patching the cryptfag and his useless decoding skills so now purple engrams are defs purple or better gear or 4+ materials.a nd lastly consider the destiny now as less of a full game and more of the base on a 10 layer cake with constant layers and icing being added. you wouldn't judge a book by its cover and the first day release of destiny is just the cover of the book.

    • @markotark
      @markotark 10 лет назад +8

      MRMONKEY232 " Unless the games rng hatea you"
      Like i said to Kye, i've had 10 purple engrams in over 80 hours including all the leveling rewards, out of those 2 came out purple and i'm currently using them.
      I've had no purple or yellow gear from blue engrams so yeah, maybe rng hates me, but that's just why the game is broken. I've had 2 of those purple engrams drop from hive thralls and i've received none from completing any missions or strikes.
      So, maybe the new update will improve the odds and make the game better to play, but i sure as hell have been burned out on it so much, that i have no interest in shooting anymore of the same enemies, running around in the same places and hearing the same comments in the hope that i have now 0.1% chance of getting good gear rather than 0.05%.
      I don't think i'm the only one who starts to feel ambivalent about a game that's supposed to have enough legs to stay relevant with it's current content until the expansions come out in a few months.
      And if the expansions are the same shooting in new places with the same lack of story, then Bungie has really messed up.

    Oh trust me, Yahtzee, you missed nothing from not playing those strike missions that require PS+. You guys like fighting through hordes of enemies that are significantly powered up to the point of unfairness? Want to fight them while defending Dinklebot again? How about fighting a boss which is a scaled up version of that enemy type you just shot in the face, only he has so much health you will be shooting at him for half an hour, and he will kill you in two to three hits? Oh, and he'll have waves of trash enemies to throw at you so you can refill the ammo you most likely just emptied on him. And if you use shotguns, sucks to be you! The bosses all have an aoe attack to prevent you from circle strafing around them or getting into effective range with the damned thing. Sounds like a fun time to me!

      The Tallest Dwarf See, you're the kind of mindless drone that the industry just loves exploiting and ruins everything for the rest of us.
      Obviously you don't understand the subtext of my comment so let me explain. DLC is an amazing idea. I fully support it and it benefits both the community and the industry itself. But the common practice in AAA gaming now a days is withholding content for the game that was not only finished prior to the release but ready to be sold as day one dlc. Destiny's campaign for example was deliberately cut into three pieces for it to be sold separately which was obvious by their marketing campaigns. The first expansion was finished in fact, save for minor bugs that could be patched up within a week or two. There's also games like Evolve that had over 100 dollars' worth of day 1 dlc. Or games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and the Arkham games with fully functional, on-disc day 1 DLC. Or retail games with microtransactions like MKX, Injustice, Dead Space 3 and AC: Unity
      Hell back to Destiny, in single player you still use a multiplayer server, but you're not allowed to play in multiplayer without yet another arbitrary pay wall.
      So if you have a particular fear of having money and wish to get rid of it ASAP then I understand your stance. But please don't scoff at those of us with a brain whom would rather not get fucked over by a system that's being blatantly exploited for profit out of sheer contempt for the audience.
      But what do I know? I only make a living out of knowing my shit

      If you can't make a proper argument then at least retain your dignity instead of throwing a metaphorical tantrum.
      You know what REALLY hurts the industry and the quality of games though? Extravagance and poor management. Like the unrealistic claims of Peter Molyneux and Romero, the excessive marketing of Destiny and Watch_Dogs, the blatant contempt for the audience that the likes of EA and Ubi show and the horrible business practices of companies like Activision and Konami

    I'm a level 30 Hunter.
    12 Exotic guns: Vex Mythoclast, The Last Word, Red Death, Thorn, MIDA Multi-Tool, SUROS Regime, Monte Carlo, Hawkmoon, Invective, Plan C, Thunderlord, and Super Good Advice.
    4 Exotic Armors for Hunter alone: Achlyophage Symbiote, Mask of the Third Man, Young Ahamkara's Spine, and Lucky Raspberry.
    2 Sets of Raid gear (helm, gloves, chest, boots)
    I've put in hundreds of hours into this game, but I have a love/hate relationship with this game.
    I love completing challenges with friends. Vault of Glass, Nightfall, Heroic, Crucible. It's fun completing them. Sure, it's repeditive, but I also love receiving rewards for things I can complete in my sleep.
    I also hate this game. Aside from the amount of hours I poured into acquiring all my gear because of stupid RNG's, the game is as fucking empty as my wallet was when I dropped $100 for the Digital Guardian edition.
    This game had so much hope, so much hype.
    Why doesn't it live up to its hype?
    It was cut.
    Cut so hard that the copy we purchased was probably just the big toe of the actual game. Bungie stated and I quote "Each planet is bigger than the entirety of Halo: Reach" when in fact, the spire mission, and Winter Contingency is bigger than any of these planets.
    The tower is useless.
    There is jack shit to do in the tower apart from handing in bounties and decrypting engrams. The tower is a mere hotspot you are obliged to go to because you need to get bounties, or get items. It's barely a social ground apart from dropping a couple soccer balls and floating purple balls here and there. The lounge (underneath the FWC area in the hangar) is completely useless apart from Xûr being there once every five weeks or so.
    I wont even bother explaining how cut the story was, as most of you probably said the exact same words when you finished The Black Garden.
    "That's it?"
    Why Destiny has such low scores for reviews, because it deserves it.
    I'd have much rather Bungie sell me the pre-alpha game before the senior writers left, before Activision had to shove their dicks up Bungie's ass and make everything DLC to milk everything Destiny's tits had to offer.
    If gaming companies are only releasing parts of the game to us, it's only fair that we should be paying them parts of the final price, right?

      Probably the most huge hype disappointments in a single year. Tbh, the games probably would have benefited having less hype behind them- Titanfall and Destiny have pretty fun gameplay (apparently- I don't own either, but this is just from what I hear and what I'd expect), and Watch Dogs does have an interesting premise and spin on the usual openworld game. But people worshipped them before they were even out...only to be disappointed.

Those games are the only things keeping this year for gaming from being highly disappointing.

Not worth full price but one of the best competitive FPS games I've played in a long time. I watched some videos of CoD gameplay after playing it for awhile and was astounded how slow paced it was by contrast. Titanfall is just a twitchy good time imo.

    My theory on what happened with over-hyped games like Destiny and Wacth_Dogs:
    Devs: Alright guys, we are making a COMPLETELY AWESOME GAME!
    Heads: Yo! Everybody is extremely hyped. So hyped that we are guaranteed to make a huge profit. So this is the plan: Just make it a game, and that's it.

    you know, the beta didn't really impress me, but it seemed like it had potential, I mean you can't judge the end product just by the beta which was dry and had you killing the same dudes over the same landscape. I figured when the game was released it would have a fleshed out story, have more areas, and a bigger variety of dudes to kill, and reasons to kill them, and world events and such. I didn't buy the game and LITERALLY EVERYTHING I heard about the game so far seems to indicate it is exactly like the beta.......

    @kerianhalcyon2769 9 лет назад +5

    It's sad because I feel like Destiny as we know it would never have been a thing if it weren't for Microsoft. Neither would Halo for that matter. Bungie's made it a habit to take the things it really likes from previous last-gen titles and use them again with shiny new polish. That's what made Halo so great; it was basically Marathon without the stinky rotten apple getting in the way. It had similar ideas but managed to perfect those ideas not just with a new coat of paint but with some variety of colors as well. Combine this with the more realistic sci-fi approach to human progress and a great story EU written off to the side by guys like Eric Nylund and you basically had the perfect house is the pride of all the neighborhood and the envy of the rest of the town.
    Unfortunately the mayor (Microsoft) got involved in liking this house, and since he wants the best house in the neighborhood he decides to make life a living hell for the current tenants. So in the end when Bungie decides to finally jump ship the mayor gets what he wants and suddenly he has the best house in town...until that house suddenly needs caring for summore. To ensure that he can take care of it, he hires another group composed of some of the former contractors of both Bungie and, to our great misfortune, Infinity Ward; the guys responsible for creating that amazing slum that everyone talks about but nobody with the right sense goes near yet still manages to make the town a huge amount of money regardless. Eventually just like the slum the house gets coated not in paint but in rusty tin, dust, and feces, and while it is still the talk of the town and makes the mayor lots of money it is hardly the jewel of the town it once was and anyone and everyone with half a lick of sense has long since abandoned it.
    Meanwhile Bungie, still wanting to outshine its former glory, decides to do what it can to make the next Halo. However there is a bit of a problem. Unlike Marathon which relied on the massive crutch that was a rotten piece of fruit to sell its game, Halo relied on Microsoft to help push it forward and it refuses to crack like bulletproof glass. So if Bungie decided to even try and make a fresh copy with a nicer coat of paint of its original design it would likely get sued and publicly ridiculed for not simply staying on board in the first place. So it instead takes the advice of someone into modern-architecture to help build its home and works from there; doing what it can to put the ideas it liked into the new design. As a result, however, it comes out hodgepodge and, while people say it's a good new thing, it quickly disappears into obscurity like all other modern architecture which over time wears down and falls apart. Now as a result both Halo and Bungie have become a laughingstock; its baby that we all loved and cherished has become the next CoD knockoff (to the point that I refer to anything past Reach as SpaceCoD regardless of what the label says) while Bungie becomes like the average British politician/'old blood', looking longingly over the remains of their once former glory and thinking, "where did we go wrong?" while still parading its long-lost superiority.
    The moral of the story? Halo should have died after Reach, and Bungie should have made a better game. Also 343i should be punted into the nearest star and be reminded that things dead should be left to lie instead of retconned to explain your game's missing plotholes.

    • @kerianhalcyon2769
      @kerianhalcyon2769 9 лет назад +1

      TheKeyser94 Nope. Bungie made Halo; in fact Halo's basically a copy of Bungie's game Marathon. They've split from Microsoft many times over the creation of the Halo series. Microsoft's only real claim to fame for Halo was that they happened to have the console that it was published on. If anything it's thanks to them that Halo's been ruined, because if it weren't for their desire to milk their cash-cow out of every cent that it could churn up then abominations like Halos 4 and 5 wouldn't exist.

    • @kerianhalcyon2769
      @kerianhalcyon2769 9 лет назад

      The Laser Beam123 Maybe not everything, but they did borrow a lot from the game. Guilty Spark's eye shape being a carbon copy of the Marathon logo, for example.
      There's nothing wrong with it, don't get me wrong, but it is a fact that Halo's a spiritual successor to the Marathon games.

    • @kerianhalcyon2769
      @kerianhalcyon2769 9 лет назад

      The Laser Beam123 Arguably. It's a nicer way of saying that something that came after another has been influenced a lot by its predecessor and carries much of the weight of what made that predecessor great on its shoulders. Take System Shock 2 and Bioshock for example. On the outside they are two different games, but it just takes a simple peek into both to notice that Bioshock borrows heavily from System Shock 2's plot devices. Single overpowering villain who has control of an entire isolated community, a people who have gone mad from substance abuse, heavy use of tight spaces and tension etc. One could say that Bioshock is a copy of System Shock 2, but that would be a stretch as they follow two different genres of sci-fi.

      Honestly I'm underwhelmed by Destiny. But at the same time I still love it for some reason.
      Maybe because it feels a bit like the older halo games back when bungie still made them, I don't know. I just love shooting stuff in this game so much more than in any other game.
      Honestly the only problem is the lack of story. And what's even worse is that the story IS there, but it's not in the actual game. If you look at the grimoire cards on bungie.net there's loads of things *like how the cabal altered the orbit of a freaking moon and have it ready to fire at earth.*
      They literally made an entire story for the game, removed it from the game, and hid it away on an internet page.
      Even extremely early versions of the game had cutscenes that weren't in the final game, and play testers said that there was a much deeper story in the early build.
      _Why did they change it?_

    Agreed on all points - some of them I thought to myself almost verbatim while I was playing. I will say in Destiny's defense though, that the Crucible and premium missions and whatnot do seem to do a good job of filling the XP gap between missions if you've got them unlocked. All in all, it's nothing special as far as these kinds of games go, but honestly I'd say it's worth it if you've already got your platform's premium paid membership thing, just for the sake of scratching that MMO itch without submitting to an additional monthly fee.

    Destiny is laughably naff in all sorts of ways. And yet, I cannot stop playing it, because shooting things is so much fun. Sigh, if only it had a compelling story and some feeling of importance to player actions and it would have been god tier.
    I mean, this is a game where there are something like 6 characters that get a speaking part (not including NPC vendors). One of them, I shit you not, is called "the Queen's brother". As in, that's his name, that's what he's listed as, that's what he is referred to as. Doesn't even get a name, just a tag that his sister (also nameless) is important.
    All the speaking parts have shit names now I stop to think about it:
    The Stranger - just a generic hunter who gives you a crappy gun and some crappy exposition at some point.
    The Speaker - Wears a stupid mask, gives stupid exposition.
    The Queen - Queen who rules 4 people and a throne room in space, because that's all you see.
    The Queen's Brother - Flunky and probably sex partner of the queen.
    Ghost - The Dinklebot himself. Could not sound more bored.
    Guardian - The player. No, you don't get a name either.
    So, only the NPC vendors get names. Huh.

      As long as a game is fun that *SHOULD* be the most important part of it. I had a great time with destiny and got a solid 30 hours out of it. 60 bucks well spent. No it didn't live up to the hype and the story missions were for the most part very boring but it was still a fun game. Now that shadow of mordor is out, destiny has fulfilled its purpose and its on to the next game. Such is life.

    I was so excited for destiny, but it's left me unsatisfied and unfulfilled.. I have so many questions, who/what is the traveler? What are it's origins? Same goes for the darkness, who is the stranger exo? Who was she talking to? Why did Bungie cut out chunks of the game and turn it into DLC...? Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a great game, and still is. Though with all that said, there's still so many problems that NEED fixing.
    Also, if players were exploiting the loot cave, instead of simply patching it, why not FIX THE LOOTING SYSTEM SO IT'S NOT SO FUCKING FRUSTRATING THAT IT MAKES PLAYERS WANT TO EXPLOIT THE GAME?
    Why did they take away ascendant materials from the queens bounty rewards? There is literaly no reason to even do the queens bounties anymore..
    C'mon Bungie, how did you fuck this up so much?

The only things that haven't been addressed are the PS+ subscription requirement and always online aspects but I guess that is due to Activision's deal with Sony for Playstation exclusives and the like in this game.

      +TheGrandRevo "It's fun if you like grinding"
      Grinding is, inherently, a time-waisting activity. It is a mechanic implemented by a developer to artificially lengthen gameplay and compel players to continue playing with the promise that the interesting bits are just a little ways ahead. I'd rather play a 4-hour version of Destiny and never touch it again than play a 400-hour version with the same amount of unique content as the 4-hour version. And even if one truly does enjoy the activity of grinding, I still don't understand why one would pay a subscription fee when one could do an equally repetitive task for as little obvious reward (for example, weightlifting) for free at the YMCA.

    I agree with just about all of Yahtzee's points. For me, an Xbox player that begrudgingly dishes out the $70/year for Xbox Live, the online multiplayer was the main thing that kept me interested past the first 15-20 hours. I definitely liked how as you progress new things kept getting unlocked, although usually recommended for levels 2-3 about your own. It was a nice touch that kept me wondering what I was going to unlock after my next level up.
    However, shortly after the multiplayer missions required you to have a pre-made raid group of friends with zero matchmaking *coughhaloodstcough*, I stopped playing and haven't look back since. Fun while it lasted though.

      The game being updated and maintained is somehow a bad thing? Don't be stupid. Every MMO has bugs, it's part of the process - the fact that the devs are working to fix them is the key part here. Warframe is well cared for. That's a *very good thing*. Massive Paywall? There's no "massive" paywall. No gameplay content is walled off. They only things you can buy with store cash which you have almost no chance of earning in game are cosmetics. Everything else can be attained from normal gameplay and clan dojos. The physics aren't awkward, it's a game about space ninjas - anything is possible. In fact, the reason why the physics are the way they are is because they listened to the community and took what was essentially a community generated technique and absorbed it as a recognised gameplay element. DI listens to their community and learns from them. Very much a good thing.
      And your last two points? HAH! Destiny is the very definition of bullet sponge enemies with endless grinding gameplay.

      You're so full of it, you need platinum to even have more than 1 warframe, so it's impossible to get another without using it up or making a new account. Also, Kubrow's are made so incredibly rare, and the power core is massively expensive to force players to pay for it rather than deal with a mess of a loot system that almost never drops eggs. Oh and the egg can die if you don't have the core, so another couple of days worth of playing to fix that. And most of the gun blueprints are walled off by levels, and anything past 3 takes a massive amount of XP to get up another level. And it's not "being cared for" it's full of fucking glitches and every fix brings even more bugs in, not to mention the "fixes" they mention in the updates can still be broken. And no, saying "space ninjas" doesn't fix the game throwing you across the room into a bottomless pit when a character tries to climb a fucking wall.
      Oh and really? Does Destiny have a boss that takes 0 damage except from very specific spots that constantly open and close, while dealing an attack to fling you across the room? Didn't think so.

    • @MRdrPROkeithSR

      scourge ks "you need platinum to even have more than 1 warframe" lol, dude I have 5.
      "And most of the gun blueprints are walled off by levels, and anything past 3 takes a massive amount of XP to get up another level." That's called progression and unlocks. Part of being a game based around leveling up everything ever.
      "And it's not "being cared for" it's full of fucking glitches and every fix brings even more bugs in"
      Because there's bugs it's not being cared for? sure.
      "Oh and really? Does Destiny have a boss that takes 0 damage except from very specific spots that constantly open and close, while dealing an attack to fling you across the room? Didn't think so."
      Are you talking about the easiest boss in the game on mars with avoidable attacks and a simple mechanic that takes around 10 minutes to beat?

    • @zembryoz
      @zembryoz 10 лет назад +1

      scourge ks .
      Stay on point. I too have many frames - almost 10 in fact. I spent nothing to get my first 5 and only recently started spending my kickstarted funds which earned me my Excal Prime on some more recent cosmetics - money I spent happily to support DI and the game. I still have over 250 plat and I spent much less than the cost of Destiny.
      Mastery Ranking is optional and has little effect on Warframes or any other gear Sure, it limits what bps and weapons you might have access to but it like unlike most levelling systems, you're free to ignore it once you've found gear that you like and feel no need to delve deeper. However, if you can't seem to manage to rank up in what are arguably the easiest missions in the game then I think we have a better understanding of your skill level.
      They are dealing with the bugs almost hourly. The latest update produced a bugged mission and they fixed it within the first hour of that update - redtext and an all telling people to stay in mission until the fix was pushed.
      ODD's raidboss is designed to be only hit at specific moments. It's one of the tougher fights for good reason. If you followed the lore (the codex is there for a reason, chump) you'd understand why. There are guides and videos explaining how to beat it quickly and what gear is most effective. On the other hand, you can pretend that Destiny doesn't have similarly tough and complex bosses which have specific soft points and are otherwise invincible elsewhere.
      You know, because you've already spent your money and have only received a half a game with no real story. Come back to me after all the DLC is released and your wallet has been emptied - I'd love to know what you truly think of your $300 "investment" then.

    I feel i need to comment that there is no need to grind for levels in PVP or the patrol missions. If you accept as many "bounties" as you can carry from the bounty board before you go on any missions you can generally do most bounties while you play the story missions. Bounties generally give as much or more XP as completing a story mission does. Personally, i was over-leveled for for every mission without the need for grinding after i unlocked access to the bounties at level 4. I can only assume this detail was glossed over since it isnt unlocked immediately.
