  • In this video, I visit the Buckinghamshire village of Chalfont St. Giles, which was the Dads Army film location for the dads army film where some the antics of the home guard platoon occurred. Dads army featured numerous well known actors including clive dunn, john le mesurier, arther lowe and john laurie playing characters from the home guard set during world war two.
    Chalfont St Giles was the setting for the fictional location of Walmington on Sea as portrayed in the 1971 dads army film was chalfont st giles. I look at the locations along the high street which feature in the opening scene, including Martins Bank, which in reality was the former Crown Public House, which is now a coffee house called crown coffee.
    I also visit St. Giles Church and discover the grave of Bertrum Mills, the famous circus empasario. I also find some brave people who are listed on the village's war memorial.
    I always enjoy watching dads army and to finally walk through Chalfont st. Giles, the 1971 film location, for one of my favourite comedy films, was so enjoyable.

    Oh Dad's Army, one of my ( and my dad's) favourite programmes. No matter how small, towns harbour such great stories of people who left a mark on this world. Great discovery of the man responsible for the 'Big Top'! Loved the tour `Alice. You researched again so well. Hats off to you for the great editing and content. Loved it. Made me wish the programme would be back on tv. Good memories. Have an awesome week. 👌😎🇳🇱🙋‍♀🇳🇿

    Impressive list of people who come from this lovely area, Alice. I haven't seen "Dads Army," but just paused your video to view the 1971 trailer and it looks good! May just give it a rent. St Giles Church was gorgeous and we enjoyed seeing the grave of Bertrum Mills. I'll be looking for these sites, most likely later today when we watch the movie. Thanks for the lovely tour!

      It's a fun film, very English, and full of characters. I've another Dads Army location video, which I filmed in Thetford two years ago.

    Another great video, Alice. Milton's Cottage, the village green and it's lovely pub, that buttressed wall, what a lovely little village. I liked to see that the War Memorial had a female figure on one side, the role of women in wartime so often overlooked, and all those who gave their lives just the same as the men. And what can one say about Dad's Army! Wonderful TV show, they don't make 'em like that anymore!

      @AliceGoss  Год назад +1

      There is so much to this village, and many other similar villages in the area. It's quite a well-known part of England as the movies go.

    Really enjoyed this video Alice, although I neither know this county, village or, indeed Dad's Army, at all! My only connection is that my grandfather was in the Home Guard. Wonderfully researched and very interesting. Superbly presented too! Catch up soon! Take care, Paul.

    Good video mate. And if I recall correctly the church in chalfont St Peter was used in the film as well

    • @AliceGoss

      They actually used St. Mary Magdalene Church in Shepperton in the end sequence.

      @@AliceGoss oh wow. I stand corrected. Have you filmed there too ?

    • @AliceGoss
      @AliceGoss  4 месяца назад

      @gs425 No, not yet. It's the only film the church appears in, however, there are a few other places in the area which would be fun to cover.
