Very helpful, as usual. Some of my come-alongs I have cut to length for their purpose. For example, when we carry kayaks on top of the van, I have a a short strap for each kayak securing to the back of the van and the standard strap for the front. Sometimes my straps get hard to tighten when there is too much strap wrapped around the core. I clearly mark the straps with a permanent marker, so any one can see quickly which is which.

A strap is a strap is a strap. That’s what I’ve always assumed until I watched this video. And I need to adjust my old adage that you get what you pay for. Thanks Jay. Please tell Maggie that I like Bar Keeper’s Friend’s new spray product called More. Like the original that she made a video on, this new product stands out in its class with the effective removal of lime deposits on windows and sticker gunk.

Couple of other points: The painted/powder coated versions of the straps like the Husky model are a lot less corrosion resistant than either the Zinc plated or stainless designs. The other thing is I wish you’d incorporate actual testing in the reviews, like abrasion resistance, cut resistance, testing actual break strength, testing/measuring the stretch at working load along with holding strength, ease of release in ft-lbs, etc.

Totally agree with the Husky's. Awesome straps and the "soft" loops are perfect for hauling my dirt bike. Cheers!

I came upon the H.D. set walking through the store and thought about buying it but thought to myself ahh I'll never strap anything to my roof rack and I don't really need to secure anything down in the rear of my SUV. Well my kid went off to college and I had to move her stuff and buy some furniture. My nephew asked me if I wanted to borrow his straps. I said nah that's ok., then I thought about and said sure why not just in case. Well I ended up needing them and now I am gonna pick up a set for myself. Haha!
Yes the extra strap length on the ratchet side is a good feature as I had to secure something to my roof rack and there was no way the hook would of fit around any part of my rails so i had to loop the strap around the rails instead. And when I had to secure something else inside my vehicle I had to loop the strap also to another hold down point as well.
The price point, compactness and load rating of this H.D. set should fit most people's needs that use them occasionally. Would recommend something more heavy duty for someone who uses them often and exposes it to the elements.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. I have several sets of ratchet straps and use the one that is most appropriate for the job I'm doing. Thanks for commenting. Best, DFJ

Great video Jay! Darn... I bought Harbor Freight about 6 months ago. Maybe I'll give them to my son-in-law and get Home Depot... a much better strap!

These should be classed as super light duty trash ! These work well holding Christmas box wrapping paper onto a gift .

VIC, thanks for writing, even if I don't concur with you. These are medium duty strap units that many homeowners, securing a typical medium duty load, would find to be adequate. The frames and the strap are in line with what you find with most of the 1" straps you buy at home improvement centers. Again, thanks for writing, and the best to you and yours - DFJ

You information is always outstanding, and extremely useful. My suggestion: Please, have the camera person mount the camera, a moving camera is quite distracting, dare I say annoying. A moving camera makes the viewer not knowing what to focus on. Other than that I greatly appreciate all your are doing for all of us, thank you.

Thanks for watching and commenting Ric Donato. As the camera person most of the time (Dirt Farmer Maggie) Jay's videos are so active that putting the camera on a mount would force us to film so far away that you wouldn't be able to see half of what he was talking about. "Close Ups" are established by movement. Sorry.

I don’t get buying two straps rated at 500 Lbs then comparing that to a version that’s rated for 300 Lbs working load. Why? Compare same to same, otherwise what’s the point? I know for a fact that Smart Strap from Lowes makes higher rated working load straps…so what’s the deal? If they were just out of stock in store, either order them online, or source them from another location.

@@DirtFarmerJay don’t take it personally. I didn’t say anything to suggest that your “style” was flawed. What I said was accurate and my time stamp will help those who come across your content by happenstance for quick fixes.

so what if the home depot husky breaks the easiest? what if it rusts the easiest? what if it comes loose every time you use it? you tested nothing useful

Darkcruzer23, thanks for your insight. My take was more on the functionality of the products, and gauge of the materials. But, thanks for your comment and for stopping by. Best Regards, DFJ
