While I am 100% on board with this update, my biggest gripe is that chain links don't give vibrational feedback. That vibration is what connects the player to the music and notes. Without that feedback, chain notes simply feel like regular notes that are more annoying to hit properly.
Thanks for the explanation on Arc notes, i thought i had to stay on the line for them to count, i appreciate it, i'm still trying to finish the last 30 seconds of Magic on Normal and it's destroying me (that sudden speed shift at the end of songs always gets me, awesome update and i hope that we get more Camellia songs from his back catalog as the game goes on, well done Beat Games)
Firestarter Expert+ made fantastic use of them around 1:20 into the song. A section that, without arcs, would have been weird, is so much fun with them
I thought the arc was going to be something where you have to stay in that “lane”, but now hearing that it’s only there to guide you and be friendly and help you, it’s makes me feel better
I still can’t believe how awesome this update was, I kept failing the songs because I kept bouncing to the rhythm and I couldn’t help but dance a little lol. Keep up the good work guys
Wow, these are pretty well thought out actually. They don't seem too restrictive and it's going to be interesting to see how the custom mapping community uses these.
As with everything else you guys create, the clarity, attention to detail, and creative direction of this tutorial is delightfully impressive. Please thank the team(s) there for me.
so you dont need to follow the arc trails but they can be very helpful for the incoming note and which way you would hit them. pretty good if you are planning to do a very dense map and giving a little assistance for the players who cant efficiently sight-read the gameplay.
It's also good for just very fast maps, players due to their reaction will need to basically move from point to point, which if your move from overhead to both arms outstretched can be very awkward. Arcs telegraph the player to brings there arms down in preperation for the horizontal swing.
In other words, they are for new/bad players. Honestly, not really, they are actually great even for me, and I regularly play incredibly difficult maps.
@@Jdogrey1 that's not what I was saying, im fact it's good for people who hit 8 notes/second, being given an arc makes notes less obtuse to hit. Accessibility and comfort doesn't have to come at the cost of difficulty and I don't think it does either.
i had no idea we didnt have to be accurate with arcs. i was so focused on getting the whole arc and staying in line to the point where i kept failing songs. ty for this
I originally thought u had to follow the arch's but after this video, I can use less stamina by bringing the arch down to rest my arms. thank you for this information!
the only *minor* thing i wanna say is i wish the chains had vibration for each link in the chain. i think that would enhance it even further, though this update is already great!
This is extremely informative. I had recently got my female best friend into this game and have always struggled trying to explain scoring mechanics. I had to her to stop playing from the hip on her swings if she wants a higher score and a better workout. This helps visualize the movement she'll need to improve.
Since the arc notes don't increase your score at all, I think there should be an option to turn their visuals off. If they added score that'd be one thing, but since they are just visual they feel like more of a distraction when going for score. I really wish there was a non-combo-breaking bonus for staying on the arc, even if it was just a little.
Can I just take a second to applaud Beat Games ingenuity with the arc notes. They could’ve so easily made the arcs restrictive, allowing a new type of note that can potentially make things much harder, but instead opted to improve the general experience. To me that is absolutely perfect, and paired with the new lighting the maps have a ridiculous amount of atmosphere and beauty in them now which I couldn’t agree with more. Congratulations, you’ve done amazingly on this one!
well, i mean i agree that its a fun cosmetic effect, but they couldve added a modifier like "strict arcs" which means you have to follow the arcs precisely, it would be a cool challenge.
Would be GREAT if this explanation was put into the tutorial IN GAME. I was excited for the FOB pack and I only got frustrated cause I had no idea what was going on
i updated it today not knowing of the new note typea and i was STUNNED. the arcs especially are so fun to play, they really give the songs more oomph. i played until my headset battery ran out, so I'm planning to play more later today 😎
Thank you for making this video so clear and transparent. It answered all my questions, and some I hadn’t thought of yet! I’m excited to try this update
Playing with these new notes have been *really* fun, even after 2 months it still feels crazy cool. Though I think a cool feature would be a modifier named strict arcs where you have to follow the arcs roughly or you lose combo/health drains similar to how going into a wall drains your health and removes your combo
I thought you had to follow the arcs, I am very new to beat saber. And I also didn’t know what chains were or how they worked. Thank you for this explanation!
I don't have any resemblance of a VR set, yet I was invested enough to watch the whole video, and I'm actually excited for the new notes implementation, great work there, I guess?
I was terrified that arcs changed scores so this is good to know. but I am worried with how hard the chains will be when ghost notes are included. Thank you Beat Saber you have grown so much, much love.
I have played the every song in the new pack and I must say that the new ideas you implemented work perfectly. This honestly makes the game so much cooler and you are did such a great job. It is so smooth and slick and I can't wait for more songs to utilize it!

I really like your addition of arcs in I want to be a machine (I played expert difficulty). To me, it really makes the song more alive and between notes it gives you some more to focus on. If arc notes are just friendly, there has got to be a way to turn them off, or reduce opacity completely. I'm finding they just get in the way on Expert+, making all the elements on screen too distracting
I disagree, it made maps a lot more impactful and colorful. It also helps when you have trouble, like me, on irregular notes that require a high reaction time to hit. I do agree with you on adding a setting to turn them off though
Ok so basically the goal was to make the player more connected to the notes and the beats, and honestly this was a JOB WELL DONE!
