I'm a roadside technician for about 15 years. I have tried lots of different jumpstart packs. This one is my favorite. I have started over 20 vehicles in one day, on a single charge. I never charge it in my vehicle. It was recommended by other roadside guys not to charge it in my vehicle so i just take their word as good. 2 guys said the alternator went bad soon after they started doing it.
I just used mine that I bought over 1 year ago. It was full after 1 year and my Tdi fired up immediately. I watched your video to understand how to hook it up ! Thanks
Pretty good video. Now I know what y are talking about when you hook it up to the battery and post. But I think it would have been an awesome video if you showed how you hooked up the cables. I need it for my ex wife to know exactly how to hook it up.
Three things to note: 1. The user's manual recommends initial charging for 30 hours. No idea why, but when a manufacturer makes recommendations, I follow them. Mine came with 3 red lights of power, and after 3 or 4 hours, the green Charge Complete light came on. It's still on its initial charge. 2. Clore Automotive says to NOT boost a frozen battery, so if your vehicle battery is dead and the temperatures are below freezing, take the battery inside to warm before putting the Boost Pac to it. I don't know the freezing point of battery acid, but why take the chance? 3. Clore Automotive sells replacement batteries (~90 USD) if your Boost Pac battery ever craps out. The owner's manual has instructions for replacing the sealed lead acid battery, and they seem very straightforward. I easily replace the sealed lead acid batteries in my CyberPower uninterruptible power supplies around the house whenever I find that they've crapped out, and doing it for the Boost Pac seems even easier (4 screws, remove back panel, 2 battery leads, replace back panel).
Thanks for this video Gizz! This is by far the best review on the Booster Pac ES5000 on the internet! I've been looking into something like this to have around the house. Our winters are pretty brutal for car batteries and this would be a godsend especially if you have a collection of vehicles OR for me personally, if you have a large extended family or group of friends that always call on you when they have car problems!
Excellent review. I borrowed this unit from my mechanic neighbor to boost my 07 Suburban 2500 after it was sitting for months in Alberta cold and it started right up. I'm been doing a bit of research of a battery jump starter and I think I'm convinced to buy this one. Cheers!
Been using this jump box for years and years, best pice of equipment for any mechanic and like you said, only time you replace them is went you loos them 😄.
To use it as a car battery charger? In theory I suppose you could if the car is stone dead, but I wouldn’t. Just in case something we don’t know about happens
Thank you for the info I have a Ford f150 and bought a Schumacher 800 peak and noticed it was rated for a v6 took it back I was about to buy the Es 5000 booster pack from Napa but noticed it only had 400 cca and my research tells me 500cca so I was on the fence tell I noticed your video as. Well as others on the es5000 all great reviews I'm sold
One addition I don't see mentioned in the comments. Instruction manual indicates whatever the charge level it has out of the box, it is recommended that, before first use charge for 30 hours.
Nice tool and a good overview/demo. I like that you can replace the main battery, which makes it a life long tool. Beats carry around a spare car battery for jumping (been there, done that)!
Dang the whole battery? I know a guy that has done this as well, doesn’t use cables either. Just places battery upside down on the other, posts to posts. 😆
@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS LOL @ Nick! I suppose his method would work if the upside down battery didn't leak. But man that's sketchy :D., that's why we need this booster pack.
Great review… but I wish I could see where you plugged the black clamp .. sorry.. I’m a lady and don’t know much about cars, but I got one of these as I keep having issues with my car battery do to not being used often.
Thanks. It may be in the owners manual. Best to clamp the black to a solid metal bracket or bolt. Something that isn’t painted or a metal fluid line. Worst case clamp it to the battery. Make sure no gases in the area, be cautious. I think I have to say be careful and do at your own risk. But it’s not difficult, if you have to, call a Neighbor over.
This is the king of ALL the boost packs. NoCo are not as reliable or as heavy duty and you have to press a boost button with them. I've had a ES5000 for 9 years jumped many cars, boats, lawnmowers with it. I charge it 1 time a year and leave it in my car. It will still jump cars even at 1/2 power on the lights. I like EZ, NoCo people say they have to change them every 4 weeks. LOL im never going to do that. 1x a year I can handle. I just bought a new ES5000 for my kids car. $140.00. If you have the room in the car get one. I would maybe try a NoCo 150 ($300.00) if forced to change but not a NoCo 70 (too puny)
If you are plugged in to the wall charger all 5 lights will come on when fully charged, even if not pressing the status button. If they are on when button isn’t pressed, I’d call the tech line or exchange it if possible.
Do the battery have to be fully charged in order to work. I tried to start my Porsche and it didn't turn over and the battery pack was at the half full level after I charged it for a day just unplugged it from the charger so I don't know why it was half full. Would that indicate something is wrong with my battery pack
@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS well I took it back and charged it and it said charge was full then soon as I attached it to my car it just went completely to no battery charge at all. I had this for a few years now and it was not charged all that time so I see there's some 800 number a lot of people have that complaint, so I'm going to try that and see if they can assist. thank you
You say you can leave these charging indefinitely? I've had a couple of these and they fail after years of sitting even when they aren't used and say full charge.
Yes, that's fine. The manufacturer even recommends to leave it plugged into the wall charger. The 12volt charger, you can't do that. For yours, if you aren't using it and it's sitting in the cold and never getting charged back up I can see the battery failing. Just like a car that's never driven. The battery will eventually only take a surface charge and not have enough juice to turn over a starter.
@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS It's always plugged into the wall charger and it says fully charged but it will not start my '97 tacoma no matter where I place the leads, it just does the clicking. I cleaned the terminals and the connections are tight. You say just connecting the positive lead and lettiin it sit will charge the car battery? How long should that take?
@@jonescarp well, if the booster pac is dead it won't charge your Tacoma. Do you know anybody with a battery tester to see if the booster pac is still good? May as well check your Tacoma battery too.
@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS Thanks. I guess I could open the back of the booster pac and put a meter on the battery or even test it directly on the leads.. The Tacoma battery was new in mid Feb of 22 and I bought it directly from AAA.
