- The Truman Show, starring Jim Carrey, came out in 1998, and it's still relevant today. What is it about this simple Adam and Eve metaphor that still resonates with us?
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul."
(Invictus)

these vids are a nice surprise in the sub box
The difference between now and then is that most people were horrified to have their lives broadcast for the world to see and now it seems many people are terrified that their lives are not broadcast for the world to see...or worse that their broadcasting (streaming) their lives but nobody is watching.
I like it.
Man, this is better than church. This really is an amazing channel.
Hahaha! That could be my tagline: “Better than church “
No clue why this channel has so little views. Fantastic stuff man. Found you from your brother where art thou video
This channel deserves so much more attention. My favorites of yours are cast away, home alone and the legend of bagger vance. Looking forward to this one. Please do the greatest showman. And thankyou for your work
Wow, thank you!
Oh my, I also was born and raised in Burbank. Graduated from JBHS in 1977.
Very cool! My siblings attended JBHS. But they would have been a few years behind you.

Truman is also a 33 year old man like Christ was upon resurrection
Love this! We are in satan's little season and there is a lot of little gods of this world. And they know their time is running short. God uses evil for good so that we may come home to him. So that we can walk with God.
excellent video
I really appreciate and enjoy your deep meditations on these films! Peace.
I have studied this movie from the day it was released and find there is not one scene, one sentence that is irrelevant to our life now. Every aspect from the clothes they wear to the book they hold up, the show on tv and the tartan shown on so many items, is tellling a story that speaks volumes about the 'true-man' if we but have eyes to see and ears to hear. It is interesting that you quote LDS scriptures here.
Two Peter Weir films on this channel....interesting....perhaps he was trying to tell us something
I don’t know how you do it! You nail it every time! (Loved that 2 Nephi reference btw)
Great commentary. ❤
Thank you!
Nice!
Nice job! Love the Truman Show. I remember when it first came out. Some people didn't like it (I think because it was one of Jim Carrey's first serious roles) but I always thought it was a brilliant commentary on life.
I didn't realize that Christof is Ed Harris. A bit ironic given that his role here is the same in Westworld. That being a self appointed god of their own world
Kevin, I just found your channel. Your videos are awesome! I've been working through the seven basic plots, and you really helped me understand Cast Away and Shawshank (both stories that I've chosen to use to illustrate the Voyage and Return Type).
Glad to help!
So your videos on O Brother Where Art Thou? might have completely changed my life (along with some other recent events). It’s been my favorite movie since I was 8 and your insight and explanations have shown me why and reiterated my belief that it’s the best movie ever made. Headed over to hear your thoughts on Shawshank next (my dads favorite movie!).
My sister’s favorite movie is The Sandlot so I’d really really love for you to do that one, if you are willing.
Thanks so much man!!! I love what you’re doing here.
Thanks Michael! I’m honored that you liked my O Brother video so much. It means a lot to me! It really is a good movie… I guess I need to watch the sandlot again.
as always an excellent analysis. always thought the Olsen twins were kind of the real live Truman Show. must've been terrible!
😂😂, brilliant
I don't see it as a Garden of Eden and Adam & Eve. My view is that Truman is a satire on suburban culture wherein life -- real life -- is never there. Though everything might be taken care of, in a pleasant pod-like state, but man's spirit will break through nevertheless. He will not be content. Man wil rise up out of the cave and explore the next valley and the next valley and so on. I do believe that there are biblical themes, and that the water at the end is his baptism of fire (so to speak). In the end, Truman wants a real life.
In my opinion, this mirrors another movie -- Vanilla Sky -- wherein, at the end, David wishes to live "a real life" instead of a fake/dream one.
Great video and of course, great movie.
Thanks for sharing your take on it!
You are an insightful man but you are introducing heresies with a Christian veneer.
I appreciate you giving my videos a chance. I apologize if I have offended or misguided. That is not my intention. My intent is to share my ponderings on these movies and shows and hopefully lift someone in the process.
