    The range of the Polestar 2 is almost the same as my Model 3 SR+. I did 590km yesterday in 6,5 hours from Germany (near Nuremberg) to Vienna with 2 stops (Hengesberg and St.Valentin) with consumption 156 Wh/km (spent 92 kWh). I had between 160-170 Wh/km at 130km/h speed. So my range is at least 300 km at highway speed in summer. After 11 months and 18.500 km is my total consumption 164 Wh/km.

      Polestar 2 is advertised as 450 nedc, that is the car can do a lot less in reality. Notice how Tesla model 3 sr+ has 480km EPA? The epa range is a lot closer to reality than the nedc one

      Nerium Oleander if u do the math by dividing the battery pack volume with the efficiency, polestar 2 really is the least efficient electric sedan in 2020. Of course no testing numbers can reflect the real figures 100%, but epa range is still way closer to nedc.

    I appreciate your efforts. Thank you so much to bring all these informations to all of us.
    As a Volvo driver I was so exited about this car and I was looking forward to my first test drive in September. But after all the consumption videos I guess I will go for a Tesla. High consumption in combination with the "great working" German charging network definitely influences the decision towards Tesla. Even the Tesla is more noisy and the headlights are a bad joke in comparison to the Polestar 2.

That was one of the reasons I bought the car. It also requires you to bring the car to a complete stop before you can re-engage it. I think are both a good thing. That low beam is crazy high, even the top of big signs is way too illuminated. If you drive it on a country road the oncoming traffic would be blinded, very strange setup and hopefully a one off case where the calibration is not right.

    •  4 года назад +4

      Pretty sure it has matrix led, so any field of vision that has oncoming cars or cars ahead of you would be dimmed down. It's quite common in newer cars. For Polestar 2, I think it's even "pixel leds", which means that it dims the exact area as well, so a full beam passes around the oncoming cars, but doesn't blind the driver. At least that's the theory. My Audi E-tron has the first stage of matrix led, and does in fact dim the areas with oncoming traffic. His findings in the video are a bit alarming.

    The car does have Matrix, adaptive lights. 84 LEDs individually controlled. So not only auto High/Dipped beam, but the camera identifies up to 5 cars in front (going in same direction or coming towards) and uses software to blank off those vehicles from the beam. So in some ways it doesn’t matter how high the beams shine, oncoming traffic should never be blinded. But I agree, on this car they do look too high.

      No, the issue is that low beam are adjusted too high. Common issue on Polestar 2.

    • @iainmackie7064
      @iainmackie7064 4 года назад +2

      Bjørn Nyland yeah, but the Polestar has Active, adaptive Matrix LEDs, so using the camera and the radar to identify where other cars are, the software should completely blank off that part of the beam that hits other cars. I don’t see why any owner would choose to drive on manual lights when there was this option; particularly if the lights were set too high.

    • @iainmackie7064
      @iainmackie7064 4 года назад

      Michael Fulton sadly not. There is such a setting, but you have to actually select it. Just selecting High Beam doesn’t activate Active. Absolutely no idea why not. Seems an obvious thing to have designed in.

      Lighter wheels won't do much for range. It's mostly about tire width and rim design - if the rim has a good aero design. Case in point - Model 3 18" wheels with aero wheel caps is around 2-4% more efficient than without caps. With caps they obviously are even slightly heavier.

    Hi, thanks for entertaining and educating videos. I've just received my Polestar 2, and had a trip with it on a route I've done many times before with other cars. What puzzled me is that the consumption is way higher than what I expected and only approx 60% !? of the calculated range (Polestars range calculator at their web site) for the given temp and driving conditions (5C and countryside roads). What also puzzled me was just before setting of on the trip, the SOC dropped from approx 60% to around 40% during a couple of km's... and when i halfway into the drive charged the car from SOC 8% to 90%, the car only received 44,9 kWh (delivery report from energy company). Are there any known bugs/issues with the BMS on these cars, giving off completely wrong SOC?

This is because the round trip of cinetic energy->electricity->cinetic energy is around 64% (80% over 80%recovered) whereas if you decelerate simply "freewheeling" you'll conserve 100% of the kinetic energy (and you'll slow down slowly because friction losses) .

    I would love to see this car next to a Tesla Model 3, just to get an idea of the size of this Polestar (which is, accroding to specs, way higher).

      According to the specs the Polestar 2 , compared to the model 3 is : 8.8cm shorter ,4.9cm narrower (body), 3.6 cm higher and has a 1.1cm higher ground clearance. Overall it's very similar to a model 3 externally and internally (saves the boot and frunk that are definately bigger in the model 3).

The Polestar 2 does indeed look much bigger because the boxy shape of polestar vs sloping roof in the model 3 and the first also looks o much higher because of the optical illusion of the side black skirting , and you do in fact sit far higher than the tesla (because of the CMA architecture) but it's not that big , in fact inside, the cabin space is more or less the same.

    I don't see how regen limit proves that there is no top buffer on the battery. It would make sense that if you have a top buffer you would not make use of this for regen charging either. What it proves is that the car (like most) have no power dump other than the battery.
