The Polestar has this bug where the mobile data connection craps out. There's an additional restart sequence you can do to restart that but they say it'll be fixed with firmware 1.9 which is supposedly coming out within the next few weeks!
For anyone interested: to restart the mobile data connection you first reboot the main display like Bjorn has shown here by holding the "home" area for a long time. Then once that is freshly rebooted you hold the front window defrost button pressed for 30 seconds nonstop and then let go - you won't get any feedback at all that you've held it for long enough. From here it takes 1-3 minutes during which the SOS button will turn on and off and flash and then the icon that's currently displaying the x will eventually go through some startup sequence and the connection should come back on.
To be super honest. They claimed to have it fixed with P2124, P1.7 and P1.8. They had quite some improvement but still there are issues like in the video. P1.8 had a major change of the TCAM software. That module software was blocked by Polestar before the release. But with P1.8 there seem to be GPS failures more frequent. It tells a story they have two „workarounds“ implemented to reset the device. Besides that a great car.
@@yeti78 Yeah it's disappointing for sure. I hope it'll really be fixed with FW 1.9. There's also apparently a problem where the TCAM module didn't get updated correctly for people who updated their cars up to 1.8 via over-the-air. Going to the dealership and having them update seems to fix it but maybe 1.9 will fix that part also.
@@hachre just to back this up. I had an issue with phone pairing and had to get my TCAM module firmware updated at a dealership at start of Jan. Since then the pairing has been good and the connection via the car SIM has been much more reliable. Only needed to reset once infotainment once since (which takes a few seconds).
I updated mine to P1.8 OTA in December, worked fine for maybe 8 - 10 days. Then I lost internet connection and some other stuff like limiting SOC during charging did not work correctly. It did not help to restart the infotainment, and it did not respond to keeping the defrost key pressed. Just like Björn showed in the video. Took it to the dealership, they first tested the resets like I did with the same result. After that they connected it to their diagnostic computer and updated the car to P1.8.1. It's worked perfectly since then, not a single connection problem :-)
30 seconds is ridiculous for a restart. should be like 5-10

Just read that you can reset the TCAM by first reseting the screen. And when it goes black you hold the defrost button.

Just had the TCAM issue with my ‘22 at just 165 miles on the clock. Reset methods didn’t work. Dealer did a reset (I assume full battery and. 12V disconnect) and also updated the software to 1.8.2 which supposedly is a dealer only interim upgrade. So far, I haven’t had an issue. App is now working flawlessly too. Fingers crossed!
I test drove a one of these last weekend at the Denver, Colorado store. Had the same connectivity issue and the guy showing me the car didn’t remember to do the reset before I went on my drive. 30 minute drive where the maps didn’t work was not the best way to show off a car that costs $65,000 USD. I was otherwise impressed but it was the first EV I have ever driven so I have no baseline for comparison.
Bjorn, are you going to test BYD Tang some day? They are officially sold in Norway. And it would be very interesting to see your test and opinion.
Last week, -32°C here and my 39kWh Soul was at 35%... Turtle mode was ON.
Given the license plate number and the headlight washers this car is probably a «launch edition» without heatpump. Also resetting the infotainment and immidiately after reset the TCAM usually does the trick getting back 4G/LTE/internet connection.
The TCAM reset is shown with the SOS-button flashing a few times. I have had it work a few times but then not getting it to work another time.

Looks like the charging speed drops for a moment when you leave the car. Would be great if you can check the charger a little bit longer,
7:40 if it is in "auto" high beam for me it seems to dip when (it thinks) it senses street lights.
However I think you know that so maybe you were saying manual high beam wasn't working?
Some chargepoint chargers have a similar system to that to help with cable maneuverability 26:00

I had the same issue while test driving the polestar 2 in germany. It never got any internet connection sadly - and it was in the middle of stuttgart.
You could restart the connection module, with holding defrost button.
He tried it at 28:00 , but didn't work.. a quick google tells me that you should apparently reset the infotainment system before (i.e. reset infotainment, then directly do the defrost TCAM reset).
Reset infotainment before trying the TCAM..in fact this 2 step is the new complete TCAM.
If just the defrost hold doesn't work then you need to do a infotainment reset then straight after that finishes hold down the defrost until the SOS light (above) flashes. However, others have had issues with TCAM module that mean even that doesn't work.
I got my TCAM hard reset and the firmware updated at dealer in early Jan and only had internet issues once since which was solved in a few seconds with a reset. The 1.8 OTA update sadly hadn't fixed the TCAM issues I had with pairing my phone. Internet worked most of the time for me before dealer fix and 99% since.
Shame it ruined part of your test. TCAM does seem a weakness with this car along with the related issue of app connection via the cloud being hit and miss. Luckily it is a blast to drive.
There should be an option for manual preheating. Example, charging offline, or charging at a friends house.

Love the headlights. The Tesla Model 3 2021+ has similar lighting tech but for some reason it's not enabled. The auto high beam, in general, is also particularly unreliable on Tesla.

unfortunately, Polestar has removed the standard headlight flusher on model year 2022/23😡 not soo clever..
TCAM (sharkfin antenna) is faulty, it is leaking water, common problem in XC40 and P2. Both cars have been recalled for TCAM replacement.
It’s a shame that otherwise a very good car, the experience is spoiled by silly TCAM module performance. So many experience the same problem, sometimes even the whole car gets bricked. Too bad…. This TCAM module is a Volvo part apparently so Volvo cars have the same nagging issues with connectivity.

The little bar chart above the tortoise looks like about 30% of the power was greyed out. Some of that will be the power upgrade unavailable but the rest is probably the cold current limit. I do like these overnight Geilo kebab runs to simulate trip travel. Good job Bjorn. Can you join a hotspot off your phone to bypass the SIM card trouble?
Nope, it didn't work.
The TCAM module is doing everything connectivity related. So also no WIFi, no SoS call, no LTE and sometimes even no GPS. And you wouldn’t think but the charging current in center display can not be changed anymore (but thats no biggy just keep it on 32A all the time).
would be nice to see the charger work with preheating one of the more recent updates to the software.

I'm in belgium and we have a polestar 2 but sadly we can't pay for the update because of laws here... But i mean 408 hp is already plenty enough, but 476 hp instead would be pretty nice still. Also I believe there's an trick to restart the services for internet and all that I believe you've got to hold the button on the center console for x seconds or something.

When resetting the infotainment system you're supposed to hold down the play/pause button (middle nob with volume adjuster) for 20 sec if I remember correctly. When I've had any problems with internet connection or sound that solves it :)
No, it's the demister button. TCAM Reset: Press and hold the front demister button until the SOS/Connect lights by the map lights go out. Not sure if you can do it while charging though.

Whatever you are or are not supposed to do this is a ridiculously bad bug to be affecting a car at this price point!
If you really need internet in the Polestar and it doesn't want to connect you can actually use your phone and share wifi to the car. Not the perfect solution but it's still better than no internet. :)
It didn't work. The car couldn't find my hotspot.
@@bjornnyland Oh, I think you have to set it to only 2.4gHz. I had that problem at my home. fixed it by letting my guest network use 2.4gHz. (a bit embarrassing for Polestar not to support 5gHz.)
If you have a bluetooth connection to your phone you can allow internett over bluetooth.
The car needs be over 70% SoC?? really tempted by this car but I’m usually between 80 and 30%

On ICE it was a great to have it on the driver side as way to tell that you're still connected to the pump or didn't close the cap. You can't drive away easily while still charging with an EV.

@@bjornnyland Ah okay. I am thinking of getting one. I’ve seen so many videos about the polestar now and it seems that it still has loads of bugs with the data connection even though it’s been out for almost 2 years now. Someone mentioned that update 1.9 should fix it. We shall see.

Polestar2 is nice. But shouldn't seat heat only activate when seat is occupied!? You could drive around with seat heat without seeing it?

It's quite embarrassing that the TCAM issue still exists. Polestar have had plenty of time to fix this, imo. Same with the terrible app.

Hi Bjorn. Since a week i have huge problems to have my Samsung S8 phone with the my tesla scan connect to the OBDLink LX Bluetooth - Professional OBD-II Scan Tool. It simply does not connect even after unplugging the OBD and plugging in again. ANY advise? thanks

The heat pump is indeed optional. And yes, the headlight washers were removed for the 2022 model year. From what i've seen on the polestar subreddit most people considered them a waste for washer fluid because it couldn't be activated independently from the windshield spray.

I am so sick of every BS car charging as much as TM3 and not getting the whole point of an ecar in that price range -- its a computer, a robot, its suppose to be software based. What a bunch of looser car companies, BMW, Mecedes, VW, whatever this company is that makes Polstar. So OK, just buy the Tesla. Done. And if another company wants to create competition, great, stop perfecting wine and cheese and remodeling casteles, all wonderful in their own right, stop ruining the internet with the EU DSVO, get a grip, let your kids have a youtube channel, and get into IT planning. EU is such a joke when it comes to Tech, its tech by grandma. Big loosers, go Tesla, eat their lunch....
