The name Maia for the winged shoes is actually the name of Hermes' mother. Maia was a Titaness and was the one who had Hermes with Zeus, so in a way Luke and Hermes were honoring her
Another interesting fact is that Hermes gives winged shoes to help Perseus on his quest to kill off Medusa. So Luke, son of Hermes, gifting Perseus Jackson winged shoes to help in a quest in which he does face off w/ Medusa in itself is a great mythology reference
The gods really are messy huh XD Also notice that Medusa says she uses the power against bullies or monsters then cue to the people petrified in the basement. She's not innocent but she got valid points tho. I also love the trio's dynamic here! As always love your reactions!
Just binged all you pjo reactions and I'm having so much fun!!! I'm so excited for this beautiful series!!!! Imo Medusa was a genuine person. She believed what she was saying, and was trying to help Percy, who she viewed as a good kid with bad friends -- until he turned his back on her. Then she switched into vengeance mode and decided to take them all out
I love that they're putting more emphasis on how the demigods resent their parents for neglecting them. Tying Medusa's back story into that theme was brilliant since it strengthens Percy's inner conflict about his dad. The parallel between him and Luke is coming across a lot stronger in the show than it did for me in the book, and that's going to have massive payoff later on. So far this show just keeps getting better with every episode Also, on a less serious note, Grover was adorable in this ep 😂 I teach part time and I may or may not be thinking of stealing that consensus song for class lmao
I really enjoyed the books and so far the series but the one thing I hate is how Riordan made Medusa Poseidons girlfriend instead of his victim. It never sat right with me. I understand it’s children’s media but just skip her connection to Poseidon rather than rewriting a SA victim into a jealous ex.
I mean, there are also multiple interpretations. Sometimes she's assaulted by him, sometimes she's his girlfriend. There's no one correct and definitive version. I do prefer the one you're referring to but it's not the only interpretation of the story, it's a myth after all
I have a problem. I think their visit to Auntie Em is too quick. We couldn't settle down. However, finding the store, eating, discovering the truth would have taken just as long... I might be expecting too much from the series
Satyrs using music as magic was a thing in the books, though Grover wasn't very good at it, so that song seems about right.

I'm really enjoying the show adaptation so far! And medusa was perfectly fabulous!

0:44 But halfbloods can't have electronics with them because it attracts monsters.

When i watched it i was like how do i know that actress that plays Medusa, now i realized its Jessica Parker Kennedy from the Flash. Thank you brain.
I think the song was called "The Consensus Song".
Oh was it? My bad! Let me fix it :)
Really good reaction by the way! 🙂
Not you dancing to the consensus song. 😆😆😆 Love it.

I think they implied that she's a victim since she said that she's not a monster, she's a survivor.

Rick himself confirmed that they used the version where Medusa was SA'd by Poseidon, and a mix of the Greek
