      Michael Bay's best movie (in my opinion) is Pain and Gain. The film feels like the most Coen Brother's Tony Scott action movie I've ever seen, but without the heart, skill or wit of a Coen Brother's film. That being said the film's humour is actually pretty funny due to the actually talented writers attached to the project, and the action stars's dedications for silly performances.

    It's amazing the huge leap between the first and second Bad Boys movies for Michael Bay regarding his style. He became well-known in such a short time after his next three movies became major hits back-to-back (Pearl Harbor did good business but wasn't the Titanic Disney was aiming for). I think The Rock is the movie where Bayhem was born...

    I honestly don't get the hate for the Laika productions in this comment section. Paranorman is a fantastic kid movie; with one of my favorite climax of any animated movie ever put to film. And Kubo it's clearly a "legend-myth" story; a lot of complaints I see of that movie starts by not understanding this. And even when I don't love Boxtrolls and Missing Link, they are both great kids movie; and they seem much a product of love and passion than other studios animated films.

    • @yggdrasil8387
      @yggdrasil8387 Год назад +4

      The hate comes from the fact that this studio was stolen from Will Vinton by Nike CEO because he wanted to give it to his son Travis. It’s hard to overlook that when watching their movies.

Gabrielle Union reprised her role as Syd from the second film. There were a few references to her brother but he never made an appearance. I can't enjoy Laika movies due to their slimy origin story featuring naked corporate nepotism and stepping on the little guy. The owner of Nike, Phil Knight, pulled some corporate shareholder bullshit to oust legendary Claymation creator Will Vinton from his own company so that he could promote his failed white-boy rapper Travis "Chilly Tee" Knight to the position of CEO and President of the company that they then renamed Laika. I've never really thought the first one worked. Tcheky Karyo just does not fit with the tone of the movie. He is way too serious of a villain and I thought it was very jarring any time he showed up. Plus, Will and Martin's characters are too similar to each other.
    In the second one, I think it really works. Martin plays his character more how he's supposed to, and Jordi Molla is just as much of a dipshit as the main characters. I just absolutely love the scene where he shoots his henchman and has to convince his mother that the henchmen killed himself.
    The third one was fine, but too serious for it's own good. And I was distracted by the timeline, where is didn't line up with the first movie.

    Laika sucks. Yeah sure the animation is impeccable but not once have they written a single compelling story. It just comes off to me as Oscar bait and they've won their fair share of awards. I just see it as an exercise in futility when the animation is leagues above the material being worked with. If the two sides; animation and writing, were able to compromise and create something that was of consistent quality they'd be much better off.

      I think Coraline had a compelling story and… yeah, that’s about it. Laika literally peaked with their first movie and like you said have since released only Oscar-bait-y type stuff. They really need better writers or something because I’m 99% sure Coraline was good because they already had a book to base the plot on.

      @@dajokahbaby1506 Coraline, the movie that turns into a video game fetch quest in the 2nd half and abandons the character Wybie at the end of act 1, only to bring him back in the last scene of the movie because the animators didn't want to commit to animating both him and Coraline in every scene.
