*All Vulcans have emotions.* They just choose not to express them as it is part of their philosophy. They see emotions as something that interferes with decision making and is therefore, illogical. Spock being half human is just more vulnerable to such emotions compared to full blooded Vulcans.
The transition of the music from Kirk dies to where Uhura covers her face in shock then Spock screams KHHHAAN!! is far better than the music score for Into Darkness at that point. The scene will never be as sad as in the Wrath of Khan for me ,but this music totally conveys Spock's rage which is the suprise here.
It was a fascinating thing to watch. It rook me years to watch this film. The Wrath of Khan is one of my all time favorite films, and holds the top spot for Star Trek. I did not want it to be ruined by a remake. You get something, I think could never be achieved.......the perspective of both people in this situation. Spok and Kirk get to suffer loss (To a degree) and get to face their cobiachi maru test. Both were absolutely brilliant scenes, and done far too well.
That’s the one thing with the alternate timeline that the reboot uses, it’s having to re-use old scenes from the original films. This scene isn’t too bad, but it can never beat the original from ST II.
I know some of the older people (I'm 47) have issue with the Kelvin Timeline. I don't. I think these actors and these stories are fantastic. Best of all, I can always go watch the older movies and enjoy them too. Oh shit, did I just express an opinion on the internet?

You could always just lower it and have it in the background they messed up the voices are in the back and the music is in the front. This wouldn’t still work because this was such a emotional thing the original fits better
Watching this in 2020. This scene was an incredible twist on Spock's death in WOK. Spock's scream of grief and anger was shattering. To this day Into Darkness is my favorite Abrams ST movie.

In my time, I have seen sooo many re-makes of movies and characters and super heroes. When I saw the cast for this remake of Star Trek...I just didn't feel it. God was I wrong! I've seen all three movies now and want to see more! They are so well done! Every character in every way...Just top notch.
I like the way Spock seems to only show feelings for his best friend and I realised that this is a reverse of the original wrath of Kahn where Spock dies of radiation poisoning. It’s still as sweet.

Oh man! That was so perfect! Just watched "The Wrath of Kahn" for the thousand time and came looking for comparison didn´t expect to see this! I want this whole movie with that soundtrack! The little touch at the end with Kahn´s theme was perfection!
A bit of a reversal but it was still beautiful. I told myself I would never watch the Kelvin-verse, but here I am, and it feels respectful to the Prime version of this scene. Not too shabby.
I haven't even seen this movie (into Darkness) but wow. This make the scene way more powerful. I actually think it would have been an interesting little tibit that could have been added to the DVD of the director's cut or at the very least a special feature on the blu-ray. Think about you are watching the blu-ray this scene comes up and says "press yes to hear the alternate track for this scene. At ultimate least they should had the music clef that plays at 2:50 at that exact moment. That would have been AWESOME. Just those quick notes and BAM pure emotion.
Say what you will about anything else, but the artwork that went into this mirrored scene is the EPITOME of respect for material that came first, while still being a unique enough take to be worthy of standing on it's won. /Art/. This is.....this is HIGH art.
when my friend died that i took care of for years cause he was older and wise, after i wished is was me to go, someone that good deserves to live, but i realize i'm ok too and try to follow his ideals of kindness and understanding of others. this scene sums it up. he deserved better but deserve got nothing to do with how life turns out.
I like with McCoy not being there that line of flooding the compartment went to Scotty and line that he's dead already is carry by the body language of Scotty.

It's actually really simple if you know anything about psychology. People have not learned (for lack of a better term) "that they can't go home again." It's like the WOW fans wanting vanilla servers back. Even it's not on conscious level these people think if Blizzard gives them vanilla servers they will be transported back to where they were 5 or 10 years ago. They think their married guild leader will suddenly be able to have time spend raiding. It's the same thing with this movie remakes. They think when the new Star Trek, Star Wars, Ghostbusters etc come out they are going to be transported back to the age and to the life they had when they 1st saw the movie. They think that Ghostbusters 3 (the original with the all male cast) was going to bring back their family member that's now dead of cancer. They think they are suddenly going to be 10 years old again and not have to worry about bills and the like. They don't realize that even IF Ghostbusters 3, Star Wars prequels, the new Star Trek movies, new expansions to WOW etc etc etc was exactly was "as good as the original" meaning it had all the old cast/content whatever that all their problems would still be there. They would still be the age they are, their family member would still be dead, they would still be going through that divorce. People have to realize that you can't live in the past you can treasure old memories but you have to make new ones and make the most of what you have now.
Having said all that I do like this alternate version of the music could have somehow been put into the movie. See my comment at the top of the comment section for more detail. As I said at least get the clef 2:50, Even if it would never be played again just play it at that specific moment. Can you imagine the true emotional gravitas even if they had done that? It would be like if they did an L-Word reboot and it was Alice that died of cancer. It was Dana that sitting there sobbing. Instead of having a sunflower Dana would have stuffed teddy bear. But some little kid or person has their cellphone playing "You are my sunshine". So yes what I said is true but sometimes I think writers and director's go overboard in not wanting to redo stuff. I mean I am sure it is some legal mumbo jumbo why they couldn't get the music clef for this scene but still it would have been a nice touch. It would have added that little extra emotional kick in the teeth.
Same here. I actually still go back and watch the originals, TNG, DS9, even Voyager and Enterprise, and I also love the new movie universe. A real fan will love every iteration of Trek and not be overly purist about it.

Kirk and Spock are in love with each other; that's canon. Also, when Vulcans press their hands together in the ta'al (that's the official name for the "live long and prosper" gesture), that's their species version of a kiss. So, if you take away the glass Kirk and Spock are literally kissing here.
You gotta wonder, what was the writer's, producer's, and generally anyone working on the script was thinking, ”how do we make this film like the last one? Similar, but different, this is wrath of khan we're talking about here, spock dies in the end, what would be more tragic than spock dying?" Then the group would murmur for a moment until, say Chris, throws out the idea, "why don't we kill kirk instead? I mean he's technically physically inferior to khan in every way. He exhausts himself just punching him with no reactions earlier, so why would the death of one friend suddenly make him super human?"

Kirk and Spock are in love with each other; that's canon. Also, when Vulcans press their hands together in the ta'al (that's the official name for the "live long and prosper" gesture), that's their species version of a kiss. So, if you take away the glass Kirk and Spock are literally kissing here.

You gotta wonder, what was the writer's, producer's, and generally anyone working on the script was thinking, ”how do we make this film like the last one? Similar, but different, this is wrath of khan we're talking about here, spock dies in the end, what would be more tragic than spock dying?" Then the group would murmur for a moment until, say Chris, throws out the idea, "why don't we kill kirk instead? I mean he's technically physically inferior to khan in every way. He exhausts himself just punching him with no reactions earlier, so why would the death of one friend suddenly make him super human?"
