  • Is that a little flowery for just having some very good maps in just the demo so far? Maybe. I love me a solidly designed map, dang it. Also Vanillaware generally has a reputation for sticking the landing, so I trust this continues. According to folks who got the game early, it does.

    The excitment is infectious. The demo was alot of fun. I love that unicorn overlord feels more like ogre battle than fire emblem.

    Hallowed Corne Ash appears to be the only way to revive a defeated unit during a stage battle. I purposely let a group die to see if I could re-utilize that slot at the command center with new members. Unfortunately a defeated unit is locked out from editing (similar to how you can't modify a deployed unit) and the only option you have is to revive them with Hallowed Corne Ash. That means if you don't have that item at the time, dead units limits you in a way since you can't re-deploy a replacement unit from that same slot if you recruited a bunch of extra units to be on standby.

      Interesting, I was wondering if that would become a thing, but never thought to try that. I love how many uses that stuff has.

    My spouse isn't even playing the game and he's been going "When does it release??" every day now since the demo wrapped up. I was planning to wait until it went on sale or until a friend could lend me their Switch cartridge, but.... I think we have to get this on release day now.
    (I hit the last like 30 min on the demo and started speed running random stages. You'd be so proud. Auchs was still mid-monologue when Ochlys (with the gryphon's kitty zoomies valor point ability) reached him and stabbed him to death and we ran to the next level.
    I assume Auchs always shouts "The Liberation Army? Here already? How is this even possible!!" but it definitely plays better when it happens 60 seconds into the level with no other fights having happened yet.

      Dang right, that's the way! Seeing Auch just getting absolutely dunked on as the first fight is weirdly satisfying. He may be a great mage unit, but also...that's a cool necklace I'd rather have instead most of the time 😆
      Soon, it's so soon now! It release precisely when it means to, though all the shops that sold copies early may have a thing or two to object to on that.

    I noticed in the character screen (where you can see all the unlocked character animations), there's 80 unique characters. They are not all different classes though. Appears some of them are just the male and female animated versions of the same class. With the game mentioning having 60+ unique characters, that means up to 20 of those character slots could just be male / female versions of the same class. Interesting enough, when you select a character animation, some of them have different character sprites that utilize the same animations. As another side piece, with 60+ characters available, along with only 6 x 10 unit slots (when maxed out), that means there will be extra units sitting around for swapping into units, depending on the situation. I can see having spare archers / clerics / magic users, to run a unit with only that class. That way you maximize the assist potency from magic / heal / arrows (especially when on a watch tower etc)

    Some of the units seem to be leveled too. The wondering shaman definently changes their recruit level depending on when you get them

    One thing I particularly love as a french guy is listening to videos of american speaking about japanese games with an obscene amount of french random names and struggling with pronunciation.
    My favourite map (we can't actually do in the demo sadly) is "Battle for Soirée calme" which would translate to "Battle for a relaxed evening/party". Which is the most bizarre and insane name a region/territory could have. A lot of the names are very wacky if you speak french. Ouvrir Harbor litteraly translates to Open Harbor, which is cute as the opening of the game, opening on the ocean etc but it should be "Ouverture" and not Ouvrir.
    I'm also a bit confused why only Alain has a french name so far (Aubin eventually) in the cast. Hired units are a mixed bag about it, some are french, some aren't. It's very weird.

      Oh, it was even more confusing during that decade where Tactics Ogre decided magic scrolls needed to be French. Funnily enough, I'm aware of mostly how they should be from French courses years ago, but just can't say them right, never could 😆. That scene from Outer Worlds of "What the f**k is this?! I can't speak f**king French!" Plays in my head constantly.

      It wouldn't have worked in this setup, I've mentioned that in a few videos. As much as I love it as a mechanic, this is like MOTBQ, it wouldn't work here. In 64 it was designed around retraining, this wasn't.

      Yeah some of those tougher/boss battles, you can be down to your last unit if the sh** hits the fan! Lmao. System works perfectly…at least so far.

    Try 3-2-2. You have a lot of freedom for every battle but obviously real limited: 3 squads, only one upgraded to 3-man.

      Yup, it's a fun one, though adding weapon restrictions really ups the creativity factor. Like technically Magic only allows for using only a Rune Sword at the start, but technically also the Valor and Support abilities aren't offense, so a Knight/Thief team can 0/0 fights for base defense. It's fun.

    4 minutes in and still nothing regarding mapping and routing. Just a rundown on what cities sell. Like 96% of the other vids.
    I don't get how a challenge run has anything to do with the video heading

      Have you never done a challenge run? The point is that every location you go could serve as another key to make some limited run work in some new and interesting way. The route is different, but the static pieces make it happen. It's part of the reason Souls games are so endlessly replayable, hence the "souls-like feel" discussion.

      I wasn't talking about topography, man. The routes refer to challenge routes. Where you route for particular items, setups, etc.
