Faith, Family, and Fire - The Jonathan Barton Story

It seemed to be a normal day at the fire department training center. A day, like many others for SGT Barton, that was filled with training new fire recruits and performing hose evolutions. What happened on that day will never be forgotten by those who were there for Jonathan; his family, his friends, his brothers and sisters in the fire department, and most of all, by SGT Barton himself. Though he was very young, physically and mentally fit, and is a member of the Georgia Smoke Divers, Jonathan experienced a full cardiac arrest while teaching the new recruits. That day, during those critical moments and seconds, his brothers responded immediately, and performed their skillsets with perfection, ultimately saving Jonathan's life. From the immediate response of high quality CPR and advanced life support resuscitation on scene and en-route by fellow firefighters and paramedics, to the efforts performed and the advanced level of high quality cardiovascular care through the emegency department and cardiac cath lab at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, every provider who touched Jonathan that day made the ultimate difference in his care and outcome.
This is his story; a story of fear, of hope, of brotherhood, and then of victory and triumph.
