Great to see the late Colin Peterson in action. Another person who doesn't get enough credit is Bill Shepherd who did the wonderful orchestral arrangements for the early, classic Bee Gees songs.

The song is based on a mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales, in which a huge slag heap fell down on the little village and buried a school. 116 children were killed, and 20 or so adults. The slag heaps were illegal in the first place but when the families sued the coal company, big surprise, the company was acquitted. The book about the tragedy is heartbreaking, as is this song.

A great song by the Bee Gees. And shown in a video where images don't change 2, 3, 4 times in one single second. We can see their faces, their expressions. Can't help but love that.

I knew the words, but since i'm from non english country i didn't know the meanings. Years past by, my parents got divorced. My dad married a new woman and now i don't have time to be with my dad anymore, he has a 6 year olds and a 1 year olds. So a couple weeks ago, i was going back to these songs. Like Living on a Jet plane(John Denver), I'm Yours (Jason Mraz) and others that i forgot. Now i'm older, i understand the meanings. I started crying because i remembered how fun it was to gather around with my family, once i have a kid, i'd definetly introduce them to these songs. ---end--- Thanks for reading, i appreciate it.

Love this song so much
I love The Brothers Bee Gees! They always can sing anything & it all sounds great. Thanks for posting this video.
Hi Dennis it's the brothers Gibb. The "Bee" in Bee Gees stands for Brothers and "Gees" stand for their last name Gibb. Take care mate.
A song of a mining disaster, that’s playing a lot in my head during covid19. Especially the line “do you know what it’s like on the outside” for those who are sad and lonely all by themselves 😣
Same here
Chumbawamba's acapella cover is more haunting and eerie.
Cringe as if people weren't lonely in 2015
@@refriedboogie But in 2015 people could go out whenever they wanted and see whoever they wanted. I am sorry you don't get it.
@@su-rv2uq I do get it. I just find it hilarious that you are sad it makes me happy to know you people are miserable because you can't visit someone. And the fact you blame it on coronavirus is cringe. Blame yourself for not going out of your way to visit someone. Stop blaming bacteria for your problems
Wish they had done more of this stuff.Really a haunting unique sound. That disco stuff was cringing from them-virtually unmistakable today.
I want to tell a story, you can stick around and read it or leave.
---Start---
When i was 5 years old, i used to sing this songs and a couple other with my father on the way to the mall, with my mom, and dad.
---end---
Thanks for reading, i appreciate it.
did u guys sing bee gees tunes?
@@jeffbuckley4453 yep...
Planarian 17 🌷🧡 love that story and if u do have kids it would be cool to show this song I agree 🧡🧡
@@zannzzzzz8780 thank you for reading...
Planar ian 17 I think it is a lovely story and a great memory for you, but kinda sad. You should share it with your father, he may not realize how much you miss spending time with him like that. Life goes by so fast, you need to grab those moments while you can. And you're right, make those special moments when you have kids.
Que Canção Lindíssima, lembro dela em minhas Reminiscências da Infância no inicio dos Anos 60, dá um Carlozinho no Coração !!! ❤😊❤
I love this song. The drummer looks damn cool in that suit and hat.
This song doesn't get the recognition it deserves.
There early stuff is there best music.
If this isn’t one of my favourite comfort songs.
It’s so sad. I was only there 11 years old when this disaster happened. Just seeing the mud sodden villagers trying to dig the children from the was heartbreaking. I still remember it as if it was yesterday.
I think that it's great that the Bee Gees are diverse in the music 🎶 that they do
BEE GEES = Legendary.
The drummer was Colin Petersen a former child actor out here in Australia. Famous for the movie Smiley.
Always wondering...
Beegees fan here My Fav song of beegees How can you mend a Broken Heart
I remember when this came out. I was blown away!
I still own and play out of my 51 year old original Bee Gee's song book that's so rare Amazon doesn't have it. I hope one day when I grow up, I'll learn to sing as good as they did....
when the drummer just casually looks like time travelled from 1941 to the 1960's
Colin Petersen
Thanks I was wondering...
Colin Petersen starred in an Australian movie named Smiley in the 1950s
@@thomasbain9241 he also looks like, Bobby elliot, The hollies.
Have always loved the Bee Gees since I heard them for the first time. So sad about Robin and Maurice and Andy.
