  • The first folder I've tried that's actually able to fit into the trunk of a sedan. If you're looking for a compact folding fat tire bike, this is probably a good choice.
    48V 10Ah battery pack with 750W (1000W peak) hub motor
    Price: $999 as of Jan 2024
    Topspeed: Will keep assisting to about 28mph but can only reach about 24 on flats
    Range: 16 miles with throttle only in hilly terrain. Probably can expect 30ish miles of range with good pedalling

    Steve, you are a great teacher, breaking down all the parts, and objective. I prefer your Aptera comments, at my age biking doesn't get me nearly as excited as Aptera does. I am happy that you have extra income for your channel, hopefully you can make enough to pay for your #27 ...

    What a fantastic resource! Thank you for doing these reviews and for taking the time to tell us about the experience of having the bikes. You may have convinced me to look into one for myself.

    Thanks Steve, I'm fascinated by this electric bike revolution and near paradigm shift in our society. As I often mention; Bikes can be really dangerous for folks over 75. Hence my interest in trikes which can be surprisingly dangerous for anyone. Be careful out there and respect your age and limitations. It would take two mes to get this bike into your car trunk. Again, thanks for your honest reviews. I'm ready for some Aptera news.

    It looks like a Lectric XP

  • @user--PM

    looks a lot like the Lectric XP, but the lectric has 3" wheels instead of 4" therefore lighter, and can fold in a bit better, also the 3.0 has the higher gears to help with pedal assist at full speed.

    Thank you for all these e-bike videos. I've been somewhat interested in an e-bike, but so many results come up when I do a search, it can be overwhelming. Curious if after so many months you'll do a "best e-bike" video or maybe just list them from most liked to least liked. I'm most interested in the fat tired e-bikes.

    Another Lectric XP nock off as a previous poster noted.

    What's frustrated me about e-bike shopping is lack of regenerative braking options and misinformation that it doesn't add mych range, while it can easily add back 2/3rds or more of the kinetic energy, but the real point is less brake wear and downhill braking safety. My mom almost died because of steep hill brake failure on an e-bike with disk brakes. The kicker is it's not that hard to do regenerative braking with hub motors by reveresing the wires, so it really comes down to saving a few dollars and a lack of creative design.

    • @unclegeorge7845
      @unclegeorge7845 8 месяцев назад +2

      Absofu......! Regenerative braking is not for power conservation but for braking safety and component life. If you get a nickel or two of battery extension - Hurrah.

    Have a torque sensor as opposed to a cadence sensor makes a huge difference in the experience of riding an ebike. A cadence sensor pushes you forward so long as you're turning the crank. A cadence sensor responds to the amount of effort the rider is putting in and assists accordingly. It took me a while to get used to a torque sensor after having ridden an ebike with a cadence sensor. The end result (at least in my experience) is that riding an ebike with a torque sensor at slow speeds requires more out of your legs than riding faster. That's not true of cadence. Both slow and fast speeds are equally assisted.

    I always use Steve as a bellwether on when it is time for Aptera to give us an update. Poor Steve is running out of content after a great run. LOL. C’mon Aptera! I know you are busy preparing for the EV Association event, but that is still 6 days away. What are the youtubers going to do until then? 😏

    Not quite in the market for an e-bike yet, but watching these videos may be swaying me. Back in the day, I did a LOT of bicycling (for recreation) but, of course, with a conventional (road) bike.
    What do you do with all these bikes when you're done testing them?

      My family used to do bike racing so we have a ton of road and track bikes downstairs. I think if I were to use an e-bike it would likely just be using an add on to those instead of buying a totally different bike. We already have a tone of bikes and road bikes are pretty light and east to carry.
      Those bikes are a bit dated for modern racing though. Disk brakes were basically nonexistent on bikes back then so modern bikes are lighter and those brakes are easier to work on and more reliable.

    • @tims8603
      @tims8603 8 месяцев назад

      @@Skylancer727 Those rim brakes don't work well with the added weight of the motor and battery though. I built a 26" ebike, with a mountain bike base, from a kit. It weighed over 70 lbs. The rim brakes worked but it took a long time to stop. I almost ran into a car that pulled out in front of me once.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 8 месяцев назад

      @tims8603 I said my bikes are all road bikes. Most of them weigh less than 20 pounds with two less than 8. All I'd do is add a hub motor or one of those ones that clip on to the seat for the rear wheel. At most that would make it weigh an extra 20-30 pounds, but I highly doubt that.
      Like I said we did bike racing so we were expected to carry these up stairs all the time and any extra weight would have lessened your chances.

    I have a question that also applies to the other bikes. Do you have to leave the key in when riding or just during startup? It would be make me nervous driving around with a key on the bottom. Also, what is the lift over height of the Aptera rear cargo area?

    • @ApteraOwnersClub
      @ApteraOwnersClub  8 месяцев назад +2

      Only this one and the Engwe one out of the ones I've tested. The key is very secure in there and locks in in that position so it's not going to fall out if that's what you're worried about. The liftover height of the Aptera is roughly 3 ft
