Happy to see Justin Gaethjes brother doing whiskey reviews
Haha
I loved that the more available bottle edged out the allocated ones here. These Michters both sound great though I still want one haha
Yeah if I see one of these bad boys for a decent price I’m snagging it. But yeah my favorite rye distillery Sagamore did outdo them here
Bourbon William you're the man. Really dig ur operation. I only have the MBSR but I've been threatening to hunt down a Sagamore and now I need to do it.
Thanks Bryan and yeah absolutely grab one. There used to be 6yr ones but I’ve seen a lot of the 7yrs so go for one of those. A little more expensive because of shipping but dusty Dan has his on shared pour I’ve heard good things about it and that it’s actually 8yr pick
Great video Bill! Glad to see that the Sagamore came out on top, that a great bottle. Cheers 🥃
Thanks Carlos and yeah I am too since I actually own that one haha
I happened to have a Michter’s LR that I got in 2022 (on point for the year Brantley) which is noted on the neck. Mine is 109.6 proof. Similar char and good complexity.
Can’t wait to try a 50/50 BBB (Bourbon Bill Blend). Was lucky enough to get a 7-year Sagamore ($65) out here in California. Going to get a double oak tomorrow!
Haha I should have coined that Sagamore blend but Sagamore is killing it. I’m picking up their new 8yr 2023 release tomorrow review will be out soon
Year bottled is on the neck label bottle no. The first two digits is the release year.
Thanks Brantley had no idea. Now if only Michters upped the ink on their printer lol some of the proof numbers I could barely read
Buy whichever one you can get at retail. In my area I have not seen Barrel Strength Rye in person since 2019. The Toasted Barrel Rye I've never seen in person. Regarding the labels Bill is spot on. Only way I tell the difference is the Red lettering.
That’s good advice Dean I’ve never seen either for sale at not museum prices myself. Both were very good and at msrp a steal
@@bourbonbill forgot to mention. Years ago that Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye was $77 in my area. $120 for that same rye I don’t know if I could pay that.
The regular Michters US1 apparently did well in a huge blind in DC not long ago, out of like 200 people it finished at the top for 70% of them. Good to see the Sag do well in the video 🍻
The regular Michters us1 is good but I never rebought them after I polished off the bottles. Maybe I should revisit. And yeah Sagamore is crushing it these days literally at the peak right now if they can keep the momentum going it’s going to be amazing where they go. It’s very overlooked by people who are paying 2x or 3x more for younger or worse stuff
@@bourbonbill I was surprised by the blind results as were alot of ppl, blinds are weird sometimes haha. agree I hope sagamore can keep up the quality with the demand best to enjoy while we can , cheers
These all sound great. It’s hard to beat Sagamore. Great video!
Thanks James and yeah it is. If I ever see Michters barrel strength though for msrp I’m jumping on it lol
Sagamore is dense in flavor, but it has so many flaws. It's sour and too much mint for me. Also, it has no complexity in the sweetness, and it's the typical artificial sweetener type I personally don't like. The barrel strength is actually only 8 points higher than the toasted barrel, which is actually the same as its entry proof, meaning that the barrel strength was aged on top floors in order to gain 9 points in proof.
Something about the sagamore is just perfect for me I don’t get the sour or the mint on it. The michters barrel strength rye is fantastic though I do enjoy it
I also like the Michter's BS Rye more than the toasted. The Sagamore 7 year is fantastic and I have a Dusty Dan pick winging to me as we speak
I felt like an outcast saying that as well lol glad their is two of us. I hear the dusty dan pick is fire. If it’s anything like the one I have it’s one of the best ryes I’ve had
Guess I’m gonna buy some sagamore soon
Jim it’s a must buy lol
You should make the Sagamore Bourbon Bill Blend Bottle!
Haha I should would be cool to do a real Sagamore pick and make a custom blend like that
Cannot be found in MD either. 😞
Haha yeah the Michters stuff is hard to get but they sure are good. Buy a 7yr Sagamore pick instead
Toasted, duh!
Haha it was good but sadly didn’t win. Still an absolute buy at anywhere near msrp for me
