I think Michter's makes the best Ryes of all the distilleries. That Toasted Rye might be my favorite overall whiskey in general. Thanks for putting out the great content.
For those who want a similar experience to the 2021 Michters 10 year rye I swear Sagamore Double Oak is within spitting distance, only a little sweeter. I say that as someone who's had them side by side. Would be interested if anyone else has had that same experience.
I had Michter's Barrel Strength Rye once at a bar and loved it. Never seen it at a store, so honestly didn't know MSRP for that is over $100. I'll just stick to Rare Breed Rye for a higher proof rye that I absolutely love.
You guys are simply the best…. By far the best whiskey channel on RUclips by a long stretch, simply brilliant! Just wish I could get at least 10 of your recommendations over here in Oman
Heading to Louisville and I have a Michter's tour scheduled - so looking forward to it. This is a good primer as you get the four standards on the normal tour.
I may have mentioned this earlier, but a few years ago I really did not like rye whiskey, With the exception of Bulliet I avoided them. Now I look forward to trying them. Keep your mind open people, don't be afraid to come back to something.
I just picked up a 2024 Barrel Strength and am drinking it alongside the base single barrel, and while they are definitely related, I think there is a pretty big difference between the two. The single barrel has that light floral citrusy thing going, but the barrel strength is so much more complex. That being said. Would definitely like to see the barrel strength closer to $70. That’s supply and demand I guess.
Thank you again. With me being a newbie I just can't get over the high prices. Am happy with Michter's Single Barrel Straight Rye @ $45 here in Michigan.🥃 Cheers
I'd suggest trying all spirits in different glasses. Just opened the standard rye. Had it in a flat scotch glass and in a glen. The glen had the nose a bit muted. You guys didn't like the first one a little bit before this video.
I’d like to see you guys do either a Whistle Pig or Kentucky Owl distillery review…. Both are at a price point that are hard to take a chance on but I thought the Kentucky Owl 11yr was impressive along with the whistle pig 10yr. Just another thought, keep up the good work
Thank you! I am not a huge fan of the KO bourbons but as you said the ryes are pretty good! WP seems to be solid up and down the line but a bit pricey. Haven’t tried the piggy back yet though.
Data points: > Michter's Barrel Strength Rye is $130 at my store (ugh) > The regular Michter's Rye is $46 vs $27 for Bulliet Rye and $69 for Bulliet 12-YO Rye
Bulleit is MGP, the 95/5 Kinda strange comparing Michters to a basic MGP. I suppose I might notice a similarity but not likely. I'm definitely a rye guy btw. (and wish I could get Michters at Michters Ft Nelson in Louisville for as cheap as y'all get it!) It is fun bottling your own there. So far just once, w the barrel strength bourbon. Haven't opened it through. Did you open yours? With your name on the bottle it's tempting to leave it alone. Until I get a 2nd bottle maybe.
What's your thoughts I really like the JD Barrel Strength Rye, thinking of picking up the Michter's US 1 good move. I cant find the others on your video. Cheers
I just saw this video a year later, but we toured the Michter's Distillery and the Barrel Toasted Rye was the best thing we tried that day and it wasn't even close.
I only know the "standard" Michter's, even that costs around €50-55 in my country, and i like it a lot. Easily my favourite medium-priced Rye whiskey. I'm not sure the older ones are even available around here.
I have the Michter's Single Barrell Rye and several other Rye Whiskeys. My question to you is this. What is your take on the Barrell Seagrass? I just opened one and the proof is 120.2. It's rather smooth and it goes down very easy. Let me know what you, and Trent, think about it, please. Thank you and keep up the very informative, and funny, videos.
I absolutely love Seagrass! Keep in mind at times when a whiskey is finished in several different barrel types it may taste confusing or off putting. Seagrass nailed it with this one imo! One of my favorite old fashioned variations is .25 oz liber & co pineapple syrup and 2 oz seagrass!
I've tried both the Michter's 10 and the OF Barrel strength rye in the same day. They are not the same experience. The M10 has a level of craftsmanship that the OF lacks. Strangely I preferred the OF 100 rye over the Barrel Strength.
Great video. I love Michter’s products but haven’t been able to find the 10 yr rye or the toasted rye yet. Hoping I can get one at some point or at least find a bar in my area that would offer it so I could get a pour.
Totally with Trent on the price disparity. I just can’t justify 120 retail IF you can find the non age stated BS when you have Redemption 10 yr age stated Cask Strength for 80 bucks retail. The choice is easy for me, plus I love the 95/5 MGP blend.
oh this hurts. Of the rare ones I was only able to get the Barrel Strength Michter's Rye. I hustled to the store to get it a couple of years ago. It has been bunkered until a special occasion as it was a pain in the butt to get.
@@seanthornton3475 true...I couldn't believe it when the guy I buy from asked me if I wanted a rye michter's 10, midwinter's night dram, Russel's 13 and a stagg...all for just a little above MSRP vs double or triple at other stores!!!
Hey kurt, trenton and the rest of the slb crew, love ur channel, i was a die hard rum fan until u guys got me into boubon, now iam at a lil over a hundred bottles in my collection, iam a big wild turkey fan, can u review 82nd airborne bourbon please, i served in the unit for 10+ years seen it on a recent trip to indiana, wanted to try it but hesitant cause its young and i trust ur reviews, thanks for the content and u guys input
Great video! I like the 10 yr Bourbon but it does not much outshine many other 10 yr bourbons that are on shelf for $35-40. But that 10 year rye is in a class by itself! The Rye is worth the over $100 price tag!
Thank you for this Michter's review! I am fan of Michter's (their Sour Mash and American Whiskey are my favorites). Michter's base rye offering is very nice yet lacking in the proof for my taste. Proof aside, it is very smooth and well balanced on the flavor and definitely an excellent introductory rye. I would like to see it at a lower price than the $42-49 range here in San Antonio, TX.
You guys should take that Justin fellow on a pick and get him on more. He’s handsome, funny and seems like he knows a little bit. 😂😜 JK keep it up. You guys keep getting better
Could you guys do a live and give the names of the bourbons you’ll test before hand so we can drink along and comment? If you have in the past I missed it.
I couldn't find a mash bill either but I did see somewhere where it said it was rye, corn, and barley. I think the Bulleit Trent mentioned is a 95/5 so I wouldn't be surprised if Michters wasn't similar.
I think Michter's makes the best Ryes of all the distilleries. That Toasted Rye might be my favorite overall whiskey in general. Thanks for putting out the great content.

Good thought!
I would prefer Sagamore Double Oak for $65 vs. Michters 10 years for $225 ($200 MSRP in MI)
I had Michter's Barrel Strength Rye once at a bar and loved it. Never seen it at a store, so honestly didn't know MSRP for that is over $100. I'll just stick to Rare Breed Rye for a higher proof rye that I absolutely love.
I got one at total wine a few months ago for 93.
RB rye is very good as well!
Michters is currently my favorite drink. I just snagged a toasted barrel. Just waiting for a special occasion to crack it open.
Michters is a product I really like to recommend in the bar I work at but it’s nice to know yall like their stuff too!

I really try to stress this point but unfortunately I don’t believe to many people share our same thought.

True, just bought a bottle, the 1st bottle really is much like Bulleit, but more intense and dark.
Thank you again. With me being a newbie I just can't get over the high prices. Am happy with Michter's Single Barrel Straight Rye @ $45 here in Michigan.🥃 Cheers
Nothing wrong with that Tom!
so jealous of you,In China, I need to spend 89usd,and each basic section is 89usd so I bought four bottles... toasted $278 ,10yo $420…gonna cry,man
Wow, sorry to hear that. All the best to you! Thanks for checking out the channel!
OUTSTANDING RYE lineup!
Thanks Bob! Hope you enjoyed!
They all sound great! My area the regular rye is 50.00 then 200-300 toasted 300.00-500.00 and the 10 yr is 1,000.00 plus
I always keep an eye out for the toasted. I’ve had popes of it, love it. Never have found a bottle locally.
What is popes?
I had the single barrel for the first time, and I loved it.
Michter’s Rye is 100% the best Rye there is! It’s always on my bar shelf!
Just landed the 10 yr. Can’t wait to try it!
The barrel strength rye varies a bit, some are phenomenal
Y'all convinced me of getting the rye. Especially the toasted and 10 year.
Good luck finding it. They’re notoriously difficult to locate without paying ridiculous secondary prices.
@@OrdinaryDude67 it will be a pleasant surprise if I do.
Hopefully you will find it soon!
Great video on the Michter's lineup. I would love to see you do a show with the lineup of products from New Riff.
Great video! Thanks for producing it.

I've gotta step my Michter's game up!! Great couple of videos guys!!👊💪🥃
Cool. I won the Michter's Cask Strength Rye in the auction. Can't wait to try it.
I truly hope you love it! Thank you for your generosity!

Wild Turkey rye 101 I think is really good and Rebel Rye is super and these are under 30$
WhistlePig is mighty fine as well!
Just traded for a 2021 M10R. So excited to try it.
What's your thoughts I really like the JD Barrel Strength Rye, thinking of picking up the Michter's US 1 good move. I cant find the others on your video. Cheers

Actually never had the base offerings but the barrel proof rye is one of my favorites, good video gentlemen!
Try them. The us1 single barrel rye is amazing $50 bottle
I only know the "standard" Michter's, even that costs around €50-55 in my country, and i like it a lot. Easily my favourite medium-priced Rye whiskey. I'm not sure the older ones are even available around here.
Glad you are able to sample the core Michters!
I appreciate the videos!!
Just a thought I would like to see more cocktails with rye whiskey and bourbon.
Thanks so much
Me to!
Michters Straight Rye is my go-to for making Rye cocktails. OF Rye isn't available in CT for some stupid reason.
That’s still a good choice!

the straight rye is one of the first bottles i've bought (got into bourbon this year) and it will be the first one that will be killed.
Michter's sourced from Old Forester so the OFBSR is something you have to try
We have been looking for one!
I've tried both the Michter's 10 and the OF Barrel strength rye in the same day. They are not the same experience. The M10 has a level of craftsmanship that the OF lacks. Strangely I preferred the OF 100 rye over the Barrel Strength.
MSRP for the barrel strength here is $85, just got one last week.
Lucky you. $200 here in the northeast!
Thanks for this video. Where did you get the 10yr?
Trent was able to get it at Bees liquor in Hobart In.
I agree that OF beats the Michter's 85 proof.
Thanks for this Michter's series, guys. I've never tried anything from their line, and this is helping to educate me on their offerings.
Michters small batch core line ups are 2 for $70 at my local bottle shop 🎉
Great video. I love Michter’s products but haven’t been able to find the 10 yr rye or the toasted rye yet. Hoping I can get one at some point or at least find a bar in my area that would offer it so I could get a pour.
My local store was allotted just one. Cost $299
I tried some Bushmills....citrus taste. Is rye comparable to Scotch (in this case, Irish!) Thanks.

I believe it was $265 for the Single Barrel Rye and the 10 year Rye 2 box set from Michter's downtown Louisville in April......pretty steep!
You guys should do a review on the high plains rye. It is excellent!
Ive been hunting since 2014 and I have never once seen a 10 year rye on the shelf
I haven’t either. Trent just has that way of figuring it out.
All about relationships
Passed on one for a Stagg in Ohio. Traded for one a few days later 😂
I saw it the other day and passed. $230 + tax = $280. Too much for me for a 90 proofer.

Good idea!

Thank you Dan and thank you for your service to this great country!! I have seen the bottle on the shelf so see what we can do.
I find a serious amount of green apple 🍏 with just a bit of sweet on the core rye. Tasty.
Great video! I like the 10 yr Bourbon but it does not much outshine many other 10 yr bourbons that are on shelf for $35-40. But that 10 year rye is in a class by itself! The Rye is worth the over $100 price tag!
Have to agree with your assessment. 10 yr rye > 10 yr bourbon!
Michters and Bullet both source their rye at MGP. But I have to disagree that they taste the same. To me, bullet rye has a strong dill flavor.
Me to 💯. I don’t see the resemblance like Trent.
Thank you for this Michter's review! I am fan of Michter's (their Sour Mash and American Whiskey are my favorites). Michter's base rye offering is very nice yet lacking in the proof for my taste. I have never tried Michters. How does it compare to Sagamore Rye?
Boy, comparing to the base rye from Sagamore they are very even. Past that Sagamore is just as good as any of Michters allocated releases.
What glasses do you use?
These are called glencairn glasses. Excellent for whiskey nosing and tasting!
Kurton and Trenton stay killin it
Thanks!
msrp for the 10yr rye in va was 180
Can't get my hands on the Toasted Barrel... everywhere I find it is astronomical on price as well (up to 4x)
Bulleit 95 rye mash for a superior American rye whiskey experience
It is good!
@@slbdrinks just had it today it is I will be looking into the other thank you
Additional: I have observed that about ryes, that the palate is often more complex than the nose.
Have you included High West in any of your videos? I am a fan of the Double Rye
I thought wellers rye was good but man is this one a keeper
The olive garden restaurant and the andys candy’s references went right over my head😂
Just got the rye toasted at msrp, he had three but decided to only get one unfortunately lol
Bulleit Rye is 95/5 and sourced from MGP.
One of the best rye lineup any distillery has! Love Michter's and highly recommend
I google searched Michters rye because this is my first time drinking it too.
53/33/14 rye/corn/malted barley
Have you reviewed Starlight?
Not in detail as of yet.
You guys out of ILLINOIS or Indiana
NW Indiana, Valparaiso.
How does it compare to Templeton?
Been a while since I sipped Templeton but from what I can remember Michters is more subdued and not as aggressive as Templeton.
The year is on the neck label
Excellent!
You guys should take that Justin fellow on a pick and get him on more. He’s handsome, funny and seems like he knows a little bit. 😂😜
JK keep it up. You guys keep getting better
Your darn right!! 😂
There so much going on I can't keep up on what a whiskey is
Is that some Dark Lord in the behind you guys? jealous.
Yes! My buddy dropped it off.
Now do comparisons between all Sagamore Spirit Ryes..
I prefer the Sagamore lineup
Hard to beat Sagamore!
That first one has a depth of wood character, i'd say damp wood char vs rittenhouse rye was a simple generic wood character much lighter
Could you guys do a live and give the names of the bourbons you’ll test before hand so we can drink along and comment? If you have in the past I missed it.
Yes we certainly will. With so much going on during our charity livestream we thought it best not to have a strict lineup. Moving forward we def will.
The Michters single barrel rye is 51% rye (barely legal)
Appreciate the info! That’s the way it tasted to me.
that 10 year rye in Canada, BC, is $249.99
Worth it.
Just bought a 2023 10year today $150.00
I paid 169 at Winn Dixie for the Michters 10 year rye! It is very good, ryes not being my flavor !
Amazing you found it at the grocery store! That doesn’t happen around here. Base releases only lol
I couldn't find a mash bill either but I did see somewhere where it said it was rye, corn, and barley. I think the Bulleit Trent mentioned is a 95/5 so I wouldn't be surprised if Michters wasn't similar.
IMO I did not agree with Trent’s comparison but we are all entitled to our opinions.
Bulliet Rye $24.00 at Sam's
Barrel strength rye pose be best
Come on, Trenton. Get on that 20 year! Let's see those Radar O'Reilly horse-trading skills. 😂
The 10-year rye is $175 here. 👀
Right??????!! 😂
A good Rye is heavenly!
Alberta Distillers makes a 20-year Rye From time to time.
Would love to try one. I have the Alberta cask strength and it is very good!
👍🏻
Hard Truth Sweetmash Rye beat Michters 8 yr. cask strength (a $250 bottle) in a recent RUclipsrs blind.
Don’t doubt that at all! That sweet mash rye is on another level!
The 10 year is $200
You need to watch Fred Minnick’s last vid. Social media coming after liquor based channels 😳
I will! Haven’t seen it yet.
That 10yr rye goes for $35 a pour at Michters
Old Forester Rye in NOT in Missouri.....
