I’m impressed with how easily you’ve taken to the H9 without the app! I’ve had mine for at least 5 years & I remember how challenging it was, & still is, to go though the pedal without an iPad.
This is a very inspiring gear to have. This is killer in the hands of Tom Morello, Jack White, Rob Zombie and Portishead. It's so trippy. Imagine if this was available during the time of the Beatles.
I love my H9. Thanks for the demo. I use the app to pull up presets. I use one folder for chorus-like effects and another folder for OD/Distortion types. I subscribed to your channel and can't wait to see your app demonstration. Now, after watching this demo I'll fool around with the pedal itself to tweak my presets. Great video. Thanks for taking the time to do this. This is the most useful demonstration I've seen about the H9 so far.
i’d really love if Ryan did a surf guitar tutorial. His demos and playing alone has gotten me into surf music. I’d love to learn from him and see what tips and tricks he has to show
This video and the depth in which you went into this effects pedal convinced me to drop some cash (thanks affirm! Haha) on this today. I cannot wait to play with this.
Yeah, I'm some people. I actually watched the whole thing because I am seriously considering one of these. I have way too many pedals now that I no longer use, but this one does some really cool effects. Great video Ryan, and thank you for helping me pull the trigger on an H9 of my own.
If you have the means to get one do it. Lots of creative things in this pedal. It holds up well and does so much. Controlling it with your phone or Ipad opens up so much. You can use android or mac. Good creative tool.
@@vintageleon76 Thank you for the input. I bought one of the Zoom G3xN multi-effects pedals and was so disappointed I gave it away. The H9 looks/sounds like it's in a different league though.
@@Russell_Optics In terms of sound Eventide is top notch in my opinion. Plus you can do crazy stuff with the algorithms. You certainly will not get bored with an H9
I’m so disappointed they discontinued the Core units. Was planning on buying a couple, at some point. Wanted a Dark version of the Max, as well - also discontinued.
I'm some people. It's late in Germany and I should get to bed, but I enjoy people exploring the H9. It's so much fun. Try the app for it. You can do so much with it. Without the app it's not really that intuitive.
Somepeople here! Black coffee and chocolate chip cookies got me through this video. Cool pedal idk about 700 bucks though lol. Maybe someday on the used market. definitely want to hear this pedal do what its know for Harmonize. looking for that perfect 80's metal harmonized tone. Some Def Leppard type tones would be neat. Also that is a sweet strat. i love that metallic green and maple neck!
I'd be curious to see you try out the Gizmotron, which is a gadget like spinning hurdy-gurdy wheels you attach to your guitar to create violin-like sounds.
Thank you for this! It was nice to see someone messing with the pedal without using the Bluetooth or all that crap. Just the onboard stuff. And no ads! 👍🏻 Look into one of those Barn 3 Ox 9 switchers. I’m about to get a Max with the Ox. I think if you only have like 15 to 20 really great usable presets it’s well worth the money. Just verbs, delays, phase, trem, chorus, flange, vibe, wah and rotary. All in a small box.
I'm someone... who's had an H3000 for 25 years and needed to stay to the end. Lots of similarities to the old rack units but this seems to have even more power. Great walkthrough.
I own 2 of these. Lots of different types of effects. The pitch effects tracks well. My only complaint that seems to apply to all the eventide products i own is it has a very digital sound. Some effects thats ok on, others not. Some great patches, some i found to be too out there to use. Primarily i use mine for pitch shift and reverb. I use my strymon and boss units for modulation. Very entertaining unit.
have you tried the Earthquaker Devices' psychedelic spring-plate digital reverb, Levitation? It's discontinued now but still plenty out there. Would love you see you try it. It does drip in its own way and has an interesting, psych trail/atmosphere knob
You saved me the work of buying and selling a used one by watching all of this. I can use the Leslie, the 12-string and one synth. I think I’ll start with the HX Stomp instead. Thanks!
I have both and they cover a lot of the same territory. My "ampless" board is an H9 in the stereo loop of the HX, then I have another h9 on the front of amp board. The H9 is very deep and a lot of the presets are terrible, but it rewards spending a lot of time with it. There are chorus effects on the H9 I've never heard in the HX. The HX is also a wonderful bit of kit and honestly the amp models are astounding, but it does 85% of what the H9 does effectwise but also a lot more. But honestly the H9 can produce almost any sound you can think of and OMG those reverbs. One thing about the H9, it's not actually a one effect pedal, it's a one algorithm pedal, but a lot of the algos have mutliple effects in them. You really need to sit down and plan out what you want to do with the H9. I use mine with morningstar midi controllers and that's what works for me.
I ended up going for a boss gt-1000 and its great. The interface is really easy to navigate. Just a quick read through of the very short manual and youre up and running. HX stomp seems nice too. I went with boss because even though it has less total effects types, it can do more effects simultanteously. They both have great sounding amps.
I got my H9max a few months ago. I was disappointed with most of the presets at first, but after the first "deep dive" you take with the app..🤯..MIND.....BLOWN!!!!! If you dont use the app, you're barely scratching the surface of the H9's capabilities. It is no doubt the most versatile pedal I've ever owned.
I open new stuff the same way, try this, try that, over and over. After a day or two I breakout the book and start something new for a new day. Glad to see your approach is the same as mine.... And just think....Inside each Preset, there are MULTIBLE internal settings you can set and then save. I'm some people....Some kind of people....
I would love to mess around with one, I'm having fun just watching you lol I've never really liked digital drive but I'm sure with all the settings you could make it usable and it'd just be a lot of fun!
A tech for a tour a few years back put two of those in „my rig“. I was fairly sceptical at first but it ended up working great. As if I was allowed to talk back anyway :D
I love it -- you just went through a pedal the way I would have. This pedal looks a little too geeky for me. Too much to know without being able to see the controls. Most of the patches are too synthy for me also. Yes, I did make it to the end. It was interesting listening to you try to figure out how you might use the presets, how they are built, and how to change them. I have done this enough times in the past and I just don't do it anymore. Helix is the one I settled on a couple of years ago and I won't be going down that rabbit hole with anything else now. Thanks for this demo/review.
Excuse me, may I ask a question...... I Want to use more than one effect, can it ? For example usding delay and tremolo and reverb at the same time. Thanks (and sorry for my poor English)
If you can get one try a Poly Beebo/Hector, it's touchscreen. I recently picked one up and the reverbs alone, and the ability to record real spaces in just cool. I was playing punk in a concrete pipe... Just awesome. I wanna try an H9 too.. I'ma have to get baked and watch you go crazy on it.
Of course I watched the whole video! This is one pedal where doing a bit of reading ahead of time (like the "If you do nothing else read this" Quick Start Guide.) The company even states that the pedal is intended for use with the H9 Control Software (bluetooth to smartphone or tablet). A "picture" of the H9 Control screen would be as they say, worth a thousand words and god knows how many minutes of video. Eventide has an excellent set of training videos specific to the pedal and the H9 control. I will say the vid was entertaining and I enjoyed it for what it is, but I think it hardly scratches the surface of this pedal's abilities. Effectively its every Eventide Rack Mount studio effect with controls; a rack bay of delay, pitch, harmonizer, and more in a pedal...Distortion, EQ Compression, Drip Reverbs, Rotary, Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Pitch shift all the typical effects are all here. Effects that were used by VanHalen and more in the studio and in their individual pedal form on stage. If you set the delay pitches to a 5th and octave , it doesn’t matter what key you play in. It’s those 3rds that get ya in trouble
Ha! Yep. That’s probably the best blooper from the whole video. I was like, “is he being serious right now?” Lol. One of many great bloopers :-)
Except when you play the 7th note of the scale and get a sharp 4th.
